Abstract

Beta thalassemia major is a disorder that occurs due to the absence of beta globin chain production and is characterized by severe clinical symptoms. The purpose of this study was to explain the differences in pretransfusion hemoglobin levels in beta thalassemia major patients before and during the COVID-19 pandemic at Idaman Hospital Banjarbaru in 2019-2020. This research was a descriptive-analytic study with a cross sectional approach. Collecting data through medical records of patients with beta thalassemia major. The sampling technique was total sampling. The sample was 35 patients. The results showed that there were 18 women (51,43%) patients, the most age was in the age range 12 - <18 as many as 12 (34,29%) patients, and underweight nutritional status (BB/TB) were 24 (68,57) patients. Pre-transfusion hemoglobin levels were classified into before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The average value of pretransfusion hemoglobin levels before the COVID-19 pandemic was 8,95 g/dL and during the COVID-19 pandemic was 8,92 g/dL. The test used was the paired sample test and the results obtained were p = 0,83 because p > 0,05, there was no significant difference between pretransfusion hemoglobin levels before and during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

One of the big reason of the rise in COVID-19 instances is public noncompliance with health protocol implementation. What needs to be enhanced is public awareness about COVID-19 transmission prevention. The research purposes is to analyze the association between education level and occupation in accordance to COVID-19 prevention in North Banjarmasin sub-district. The research method is analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used a purposive sampling method with the size of 50 people from North Banjarmasin sub-district who met two criterias, namely inclusion and exclusion. According to the data gathered in this study, 45 people (90%) had a high education, while 5 people (10%) had a low education. On the occupation, there were 20 people (40%) working and 30 people (60%) not working. The results showed 39 people (78%) had good knowledge and 11 people (22%) had bad knowledge. Fisher's test  results shows that the correlations between education level and knowledge have a p value of 0.006 (p value < 0.05) with PR = 5.142857. And another results of the Fisher’s test for the correlations between occupation and knowledge have a p value of 0.489 (p value > 0.05). The results shown a significant correlations between education level and knowledge of COVID-19 prevention, and there is no remarkable correlations in occupation with knowledge about COVID-19 prevention

Abstract

Appendicitis is the most common cause of acute abdomen and the most common surgical emergency. Signs and symptoms that are not always clear in every patient make it difficult to establish a diagnosis. This study aims to determine the relationship of the Alvarado score with the size of the diameter of the appendix based on ultrasound which can help in diagnosing cases of appendicitis. This research is an analytic observational study with a retrospective cohort study approach with a total sample of 52 people who have complied with the specified criteria and were selected by non-probability sampling technique. The data used for this study were the Alvarado score and the size of the diameter of the appendix based on the patient's ultrasound taken from secondary data. The Pearson correlation test conducted has shown a negative relationship between the Alvarado score and the size of the appendix diameter based on ultrasound with a p-value is 0,078>0.05. Based on this study, it can be concluded that there is no corellation between the size of the appendix diameter based on ultrasound and the Alvarado score in appendicitis patients of RSUD Ulin Banjarmasin

Abstract

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome indicated by the lack of ability of the heart to supply enough blood to the peripheral tissues to fulfill the body's metabolic demands. In some cases, heart failure is usually accompanied by other pathological conditions where the process occurs at the same time as other diseases called comorbidities. In addition to the underlying disease, this disease is also a trigger, a risk factor, and a complication that further aggravates the condition of heart failure. Comorbidities are commonly found in elderly heart failure patients, resulting from the failure of several organ functions. However, the distribution of these comorbids varies in each age group. Uncontrolled hypertension causes complications of heart failure which is also a comorbid of heart failure itself. This study aims to determine the distribution of the incidence of heart failure patients with comorbid hypertension at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin. This study used a retrospective descriptive research design with amethod total sampling by taking medical record data of heart failure patients who underwent outpatient treatment at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin for the time range of February 2020-July 2020. From 188 heart failure patients during the time range of February 2020-July 2020, obtained as many as 84 (44.68%) patients with heart failure accompanied by hypertension. Based on the results of echocardiography, the most classifications were diastolic heart failure in 47 patients (55.95%), systolic heart failure in 21 patients (25%), and combination systolic diastolic heart failure in 16 patients (19.05%). The highest prevalence was in men 59 (70.24%). Conclusion: In patients with heart failure accompanied by comorbid hypertension, the most common finding is left ventricular diastolic heart failure, which predominantly affects male patients

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is the most common complaint of low back pain. One of the treatments that can be done is non-pharmacological therapy, namely therapy IR and low level laser therapy (LLLT). Both have similarities in electromagnetic radiation hyperthermia, and serve to reduce pain severity, reduce disability in low back pain patients. The aim of this literature review is to compare the effectiveness of IR and LLLT in reducing pain in low back pain patients. The writing was done by analyzing the literature from several electronic medical journal databases, namely: PubMed-NCBI, ProQuest, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The criteria for inclusion of articles are articles in English and Indonesian in research published in 2011–2021. There are 5 articles used in this literature review. The results of the review found that IR and LLLT were equally effective in reducing pain in low back pain patients. Three out of five IR articles showed more effective results in reducing low back pain. Two of the five articles of LLLT showed more effective results in reducing low back pain, that IR and LLLT have the same effectiveness in reducing low back pain

Abstract

Acute diarrhea is an increase in stool discharge with a softer or more liquid consistency than usual, occurring at least 3 times in 24 hours with or without mucus and blood lasting <14 days. The purpose of this study is to find out the clinical manifestations, hematology profile, and examination of feces of children under five at Idaman Banjarbaru Hospital in 2020-2021. The methods used in this study are descriptive retrospective. Data retrieval techniques are done purposive sampling by paying attention to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study sample included 35 children with clinical manifestation data and a complete hematological profile. The results showed the most age in the group of 12-36 months with a percentage of 60%. By gender there were 21 children (64.86%) male. The study concluded that 27 children (77.14%), were in vomiting in 26 children (74.28%). The majority with normal leukocyte levels with a percentage of 22 (62.85%) children, hemoglobin levels within normal limits are as many as 25 children (71.43%).
