Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020 has affected education systems and management throughout Indonesia, such as teaching and learning activities in an online system, increasing stress and boredom, and causing anxiety and depression for students. The government has made various efforts to address the existing obstacles. However, these efforts have not been able to overcome prolonged negative impacts, such as the threat of dropping out of school, students having to work to help family finances due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the occurrence of learning achievement gaps due to differences in access and quality, the occurrence of covert exploitation of children, and the tendency to students become addicted to online games. This study uses a qualitative approach with library studies using legitimacy theory to answer these existing problems. Two conclusions were drawn; first, the education system before the COVID-19 pandemic was still based on formal, non-formal, and informal education, which was held in an open system through face-to-face and or long-distance. Second, the anticipation of systematic changes in education during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to create advanced, trustworthy, and dignified graduates is carried out by implementing legitimacy theory by integrating technology, information, and communication with business process reengineering (BPR).

Abstract

Considering that the relationship between alums and schools has not been appropriately managed, it is necessary to answer problems related to the feasibility of the alumni information system from the user aspect and how the alumni information system from the literature study. Based on a literature study examining alumni information systems development using analysis, design, implementation, and testing, 2 (two) conclusions are generated. First, the feasibility of the alum information system from the user aspect is sufficient to use the web because the web-based alumni information system can track the whereabouts and register alums. Second, the feasibility of the alumni information system from the literature study shows that prioritizing functional suitability is more adequate than other aspects. It is based on these aspects, which have the characteristics of the extent to which a set of functions covers all the tasks and user-defined objectives and the extent to which a product or system delivers the correct results with the required precision.

Abstract

The problem that often occurs in reading skills is that when reading text books, students usually feel shy and anxious, afraid to make mistakes while reading, and also slow to read text. So, in this case the present researcher wants to analyze students anxiety in learning English. It is urgent to conduct a descriptive research through the qualitative approach in order to find out the factors that provoke students’ anxiety in reading and to find out the strategies used by the students to overcome their anxiety in reading. The findings of this study revealed that students feel anxious in reading English from two aspects: personal factors and feature texts. These aspects establish that reading in a foreign language also provokes anxiety. The findings also showed that students experienced higher levels of foreign language reading anxiety. The reason for this increase is the increasing level of difficulty in reading the material, both from the personal factor and feature text aspects. These two aspects are represented by five constructs of unknown vocabulary, unfamiliar topic, unfamiliar culture, worry about reading effects, and afraid of making errors. Teachers can help foreign language learners to reduce foreign language reading anxiety by increasing students' confidence to deal with personal factors. As for the students, they need to get involved to reduce anxiety in classroom. Students should respect each other in order to create a friendly environtment. They should help a lower level students when have a difficulty instead of ridiculed them. This would make them feel comfortable with each other. In addition, anxious students should realize that mistakes are a natural part of language learning, therefore, it should not discourage them in learning English.

Field trials in this study consisted of 20 students, eight male students and twelve female students. This research uses a developmental research model. This development research uses the Borg and Gall development model, which is carried out in five stages: the needs analysis stage, the design stage, the prototyping stage, the field trial stage, and the product revision stage. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Based on the validator's assessment, the products developed in the form of teacher books, student books, and model books are included in the "good enough" category. The results of field trials showed that students' average value reached 74.5. the percentage of student learning completeness reaches 85%. (3) Student learning activities are included in the "active" category with an average score of 47.
