Abstract

This qualitative research investigates the development and implementation of a digital module designed to facilitate oral history documentation regarding the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia (PRRI) struggle within South Tapanuli communities. The study focuses on mentoring assistance provided to Madrasah Aliyah (MA) students at Pondok Pesantren Musthafawiyah Purba Baru, emphasizing the acquisition of interview techniques and narrative analysis competencies. This research employed a qualitative methodology encompassing semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and participant documentation analysis conducted over six months with 28 MA students and 5 faculty mentors. Through iterative coding and thematic analysis, three core emergent themes were identified: (1) scaffolded skill development in oral history methodology, (2) students' evolving understanding of historical agency and community memory preservation, and (3) institutional integration challenges within pesantren educational frameworks. The digital module demonstrated significant effectiveness in enhancing students' interview competencies, with 89.3% of participants demonstrating advanced capability in conducting biographical narrative interviews by the research conclusion. Findings revealed that mentoring relationships characterized by reciprocal feedback mechanisms and culturally responsive pedagogical approaches substantially facilitated student learning engagement. This research contributes to understanding how digital learning technologies can be meaningfully integrated within Islamic boarding school contexts to foster students' historical consciousness and community documentation skills while preserving traditional pedagogical values.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. Simasom Village, Padangsidimpuan Angkola Julu District, is an area vulnerable to stunting due to limited knowledge about maternal nutrition during pregnancy, economic constraints, and strong local myths that restrict nutritious food intake. This community service activity employed a health promotion approach through direct nutrition counseling for pregnant women at an integrated health post (Posyandu). The method included pre-test and post-test assessments using questionnaires to measure knowledge levels, direct counseling using leaflets, and anthropometric measurements (weight, height, Mid-Upper Arm Circumference). The activity involved nine pregnant women. The activity showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge. Pre-test results indicated 68.8% of pregnant women had poor knowledge about nutrition and stunting prevention. After the counseling, the post-test results showed a decrease to only 12.5% with poor knowledge, while 87.5% achieved a good knowledge level, indicating a 56.3% improvement. Anthropometric data revealed that most participants had normal nutritional status, although two pregnant women required further nutritional intervention based on their Mid-Upper Arm Circumference measurements. Direct nutrition counseling using leaflets is effective in significantly increasing the knowledge of pregnant women about balanced nutrition and stunting prevention. Continuous and routine educational activities at Posyandu are essential to maintain and improve maternal understanding, which is expected to lead to positive behavioral changes and contribute to stunting reduction efforts in Simasom Village.

Abstract

Character education remains a pivotal concern in contemporary Indonesian educational contexts, particularly in preserving cultural values amid globalization while fostering moral development in students. This research addresses the urgent need for contextually relevant pedagogical approaches by developing and implementing learning modules based on local wisdom (kearifan lokal) integrated with comprehensive teacher training programs. Employing qualitative methodology through thematic analysis of interview data, observational records, and documentary evidence collected from eight teachers across diverse school settings in Indonesia, this study examines the effectiveness of locally-contextualized learning modules in strengthening character education. The findings reveal that 93.75% of teachers perceived the modules as highly useful, with student character development indicators demonstrating improvements ranging from 29% to 33% across six key character values within a four-month implementation period. Community stakeholder engagement, particularly involving local elders (90% participation) and religious leaders (88% participation), emerged as a crucial supporting factor in implementation success. This research demonstrates that integrating indigenous knowledge with pedagogical training creates sustainable frameworks for character education that honor cultural identity while achieving educational objectives. The results have significant implications for educational policy, teacher professional development, and the preservation of cultural heritage through formal education systems..

Abstract

The Branca Area in Dili City, Timor-Leste, is a coastal zone with great potential for community-based ecotourism development. However, management of this area still faces problems such as weak local institutional capacity, low community participation, limited supporting facilities, and regulatory constraints due to a centralized tourism management system. This international community service activity aims to identify existing conditions, formulate institutional empowerment models, and provide training and assistance through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The implementation methods include literature studies, situation analysis, institutional mapping, and the application of technological innovations for promotion and conservation. The results of the activity showed an increase in community capacity, the formation of a simple group structure, increased conservation awareness, and an increase in local economic activity. This activity produced academic outputs in the form of scientific articles, media publications, documentary videos, and a 30% increase in institutional capacity. This programmed emphasizes the urgency of community-based ecotourism (CBET) as a sustainable strategy to improve socio-economic welfare and environmental conservation in Branca

Abstract

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) serve as the backbone of Indonesia’s national economy, particularly in Bandung Regency, home to over 47,000 MSMEs. However, MSMEs face major challenges including limited marketing skills, low product quality due to insufficient digital access, limited awareness of halal certification, and environmentally unsustainable practices. This community service initiative addressed these issues by implementing an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach through workshops, technical assistance, and Penta helix collaboration involving academia, government, communities, and media. The program focused on enhancing digital literacy, introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for business efficiency, promoting Islamic finance, and fostering a halal and green economic ecosystem. The results show a significant increase in business actors’ interest and awareness in adopting AI and digital tools, especially in creating AI-generated social media content for marketing. Moreover, participants demonstrated improved understanding and capacity to pursue halal certification and eco-friendly packaging. The key outcome of the program is the establishment of a cross-sectoral coordination forum and the organization of an MSME exhibition as a sustainable effort to strengthen MSEs competitiveness.

Abstract

The recent trends in the global financial instruments provide innovation as well as diversification. The digitalisation of finance has made investment opportunities more accessible, but simultaneously brought new problems, especially to retail investors who might lack the financial literacy to assess the risks of the market and identify fraudulent investment offerings. However, the lack of understanding of financial management and investment practices also happens among academics. This study aims to strengthen investment literacy for creating a base of financial independence and economic well-being among the students and lecturers of the Institute of Science, Culture, and Innovation at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep (RMUTK) in Thailand. Using a participatory framework, the project was developed in five consecutive steps: problem identification, reference and gap analysis, solution design, implementation, and evaluation. The results indicated that there was a significant improvement in the knowledge and awareness of the participants about financial and investment concepts, most importantly ability to distinguish between savings and investments and the understanding of such investment instruments such as mutual funds, bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and digital assets. Further, it showed increased confidence in the students and lecturers regarding their personal finance management and their distribution of income to investment.

Abstract

The issue of household organic waste in rural areas remains a significant environmental and socioeconomic challenge, particularly in Gulingan Village, Mengwi District, Badung Regency. The high volume of organic waste, low awareness of waste separation, and the untapped economic potential of processed waste form the background of this initiative. This community service program was carried out in collaboration with the NGO Kopernik as a strategic partner through technical training, environmental education, and institutional strengthening based on the circular economy. The implementation methods included public outreach, participatory mapping, training in making compost and eco-enzymes, household mentoring, as well as pre-test and post-test evaluations to assess participants’ improved understanding. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ awareness and skills. Based on the evaluation, understanding of waste separation rose from 52% to 82%, while active participation in processing practices increased from 44% to 72%. This activity demonstrates that practice-based and collaborative approaches can strengthen community capacity in realizing a sustainable and environmentally resilient village.
