Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the carrying capacity of the subgrade in the construction of road pavement by comparing the value of the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of the field obtained from the CBR Angkur and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) test. The quality of the subgrade is a crucial factor in determining stability and age of road pavement service, but often there are significant variations in the results of testing the carrying capacity of the soil between different methods. This study was conducted on Jl. Baruk Utara III, Kedung Baruk, Rungkut District, Surabaya, by collecting primary data from testing the physical and mechanical properties of the soil in the laboratory, as well as the CBR Angkur and DCP testing in the field. The results showed that the soil at the study site was classified as silt (OL) and A-4, with high water content (59.14%) and low plasticity, indicating weak carrying capacity. The CBR value of the field of the Angkur test is 2.53%, while the CBR design value of the DCP test ranges from 3.13%. Although there are numerical differences, the two methods consistently show that the subgrade has a low carrying capacity. This conclusion confirms the need for soil stabilization to ensure optimal and sustainable pavement performance.

Abstract

The subgrade is an important component in the road pavement structure because it functions as the main lining of the traffic load. However, the condition of the land on Jl. North Baruk III, Kedung Baruk, Surabaya, tends to be less stable because it is dominated by soil types such as soft sauce, plastic clay, and loose -grained soils that have low carrying capacity. This study aims to evaluate subgrade improvement using chemical stabilization methods with a mixture of dolomite lime of 6%, as well as analyzing its impact on the value of density, CBR, and carrying capacity of micro pole foundations. The method used is laboratory experiments and field modeling. The results showed that the addition of lime 6% increased the value of soil density from 95.84% to 99.70% (an increase of 4.03%), the CBR value from 2.53% to 4.09% (an increase of 61.66%), and the carrying capacity of the foundation of micro pole from 27.84 kN to 38.66 KN (increased 38.87%). Thus, the combination of lime stabilization and the utilization of micro pole effectively increases the carrying capacity and stability of the subgrade to support the rigid pavement construction.

Abstract

A critical component of flood pump electrical installations is the grounding system, as it provides a low-impedance path for leakage current, fault current, and transient overvoltage to flow into the earth. The grounding system at the Jagir Kalimir Flood Pump Station in Surabaya was optimized for a pump with a capacity of 3 m³/s by calculating in-situ soil resistivity using the Wenner method and implementing a parallel electrode design. The initial grounding resistance was 13.31 Ω, exceeding the PUIL 2011 limit of ≤5 Ω, indicating that it was insufficient to dissipate fault current effectively. The Wenner four-probe method, with probe spacings of 1.0 m, 1.5 m, and 2.5 m, yielded an average apparent soil resistivity of approximately 6.48 ± 0.19 Ωm. This result indicates that the soil had low apparent resistivity, which is consistent with wet soil conditions during the rainy season. However, a detailed geotechnical classification was not included in this study. Before optimization, field measurements recorded a leakage current of 312 mA and an average of four protection trips per week in the low-voltage main distribution panel (LVMDP) and control panel, indicating the presence of electromagnetic induction and arcing. The optimization was implemented using two vertical electrode rods, each approximately 2.5 m long, installed with a spacing of 2.5 m between them and connected to the main distribution panel through a 20 m grounding conductor. After optimization, the grounding resistance decreased from 13.31 ± 0.06 Ω to 1.11 ± 0.02 Ω, representing a reduction of 91.66 ± 0.15 percentage points. Dwight's analysis predicted an ideal grounding resistance of 1.12 Ω for the proposed configuration, while the measured value obtained using the two parallel rods showed a deviation of approximately 1.04%, demonstrating close agreement with the analytical prediction. However, the limitation of mutual resistance between the electrodes was still recognized. After optimization, the leakage current decreased to 28 mA, and no protection trips, looping, or arcing were recorded during approximately one week of observation. The novelty of this research lies in the combination of Wenner soil resistivity profiling at the specific site, electrode dimension selection based on Dwight's analysis, and field validation for the grounding system of a flood pump electrical installation.

Abstract

Plan torsional irregularity can amplify edge displacement in reinforced-concrete (RC) buildings with asymmetrically distributed lateral stiffness. This numerical study evaluates a hypothetical educational-building model comprising six main stories and a roof level, an RC special moment-resisting frame, and an asymmetrically located RC evacuation-core wall. A hybrid inverted-V eccentric bracing system was introduced on the weaker facade; the diagonal braces were modeled using BJ37 structural-steel H 400 x 400 x 13 x 21 sections, while the intervening RC beam segment acted as the horizontal eccentric link. Four ETABS Ultimate v22.0.0 Build 3628 models were compared by linear-elastic response-spectrum analysis in accordance with SNI 1726:2019: an unbraced baseline and three braced variants with geometric link lengths of 0.50, 1.00, and 1.50 m. Among the three investigated variants, the 0.50 m model produced the lowest combined CM-CR eccentricity and critical edge displacement. In the final signed +/-5% accidental-eccentricity response-spectrum results, the uppermost comparable Joint 25 displacement decreased from 86.33 mm to 22.91 mm in the Y direction (73.5%) and from 65.27 mm to 28.73 mm in the X direction (56.0%). The fundamental period changed from 1.109 s for the baseline to 0.599 s, 0.672 s, and 0.755 s for the 0.50 m, 1.00 m, and 1.50 m variants, respectively. With 15 retained modes, cumulative UX/UY mass participation was 92.88%/95.76% for Model 1, 93.49%/95.26% for Model 2, 93.26%/95.69% for Model 3, and 93.19%/95.50% for Model 4. All four models exceeded 90% cumulative translational mass participation in both principal directions. The signed accidental-eccentricity cases were scaled independently to the applicable equivalent-static minimum base shear before the reported responses were extracted. The bracing system reduced the severity of the source-model torsional indices but did not eliminate torsional irregularity at every story and in both directions. Because the analysis was linear elastic and the link was an RC beam segment rather than a conventional steel EBF link, the results demonstrate comparative global-response trends only and do not establish nonlinear ductility, energy-dissipation capacity, connection adequacy, foundation adequacy, or construction readiness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of aspects of occupational safety, occupational health, and work environment on work potential, work quality, and commitment and job satisfaction in the construction project of the ISHK Tolaram Eye Clinic in Batu City. The research uses a quantitative approach with questionnaire, observation, and interview instruments. Multiple linear regression, the t-test, and the F test were used to analyze the data using SPSS 27. The findings indicated that the aspect of occupational safety had a significant effect on work potential, while occupational health and work environment had no significant effect. Simultaneously, the three aspects of OSH have a significant effect on job potential, but not on quality or commitment and job satisfaction. These findings affirm the importance of occupational safety in increasing worker potential, while health and the work environment need to be strengthened to more optimally support productivity and labor satisfaction.
