Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the levels of cognitive and their realization processes on writing tasks in the English textbook for Senior High School Grade XII based on revised version of Blooms Taxonomy. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. To collect the data, this research applied documentation technique. There were eighty writing tasks obtained from the English textbook published by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Balitbang, Kemdikbud. Those data were analyzed by applying Miles and Hubermanns (1994) analysis model including data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The research finding showed that the six levels of cognitive domain as proposed by Anderson and Kratwohl (2001) were realized on writing tasks in the English textbook published by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Balitbang, Kemdikbud. It was also found that the four types of writing tasks as proposed by Brown (2004) namely imitative, intensive, responsive and extensive were applied. So, it was concluded that the six levels of cognitive domains and the four types of writing tasks were realized totally in the English textbook.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to identify the types of grammatical and lexical cohesive devices used in The Lion King Movie Script, to describe the grammatical and lexical cohesion devices used in The Lion King Movie Script and to investigate the grammatical and lexical cohesion devices used in The Lion King Movie Script. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to obtain the objectives of the research. The data of this research was grammatical and lexical cohesion while the data source of this research was script of The Lion King Movie. The results in this research were found 312 ties of grammatical cohesive devices and 196 lexical cohesive devices used in the script. The realization of cohesive devices used in The Lion King Movie script was semantic concept between lexical and grammatical cohesion devices, this referred to the relationship meaning that exists within or outside the text. The most types of grammatical cohesion used werepersonal reference and demonstrative reference because they used to refer something which was mentioned elsewhere in the script. Meanwhile, clausal substitution as only type of grammatical cohesion didnt occur in the whole scene. The most types of lexical used were repetition because they used to rewrite an item in preceding element with the same form to following element. Finally, the findings showed almost all types of lexical and grammatical cohesion contained reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, repetition, synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, meronymy, and collocation contained in The Lion King Movie script.

Abstract

This study deals with the analysis of Persuasive Strategies Used in SloganWoman Cosmetics Wardah Advertisement on Instagram. Wardah is the onefamous brand of the beauty from local brand and also every woman use theproduct of Wardah. It is be a reason why the researcher use a Wardah as anobject in the product can be the research. Wardah product has a several sloganin to advertising their product. The objectives of this research is to identify thekinds of persuasive strategies and describe the way or modes persuasivestrategy used in slogan advertisement of Wardah Cosmetics. Qualitativeresearch is applied to analyze the data. That the qualitative research is focusedon analyzing the data in the form of words, and not about numerical data. Theresearcher is used 14 slogan advertisement on official account Wardah onInstagram. In collecting the data the researcher browsed the sloganadvertisement by search on Wardah official account on Instagram, and then theresearcher chosen the slogan advertisement of Wardah to be analyzed. Thenext, the researcher identified the slogan, understanding what the kinds ofpersuasive strategies used in the slogan and the way or modes to persuadeconsumers. The result of the data analysis show the researcher found andanalyzed. The types of persuasive strategies, there are: rationalization (5 data),identification (7 data), suggestion (11 data), conformity (5 data) andcompensation (3 data). And the way to persuade consumers, those are: ethos (7data), pathos (2 data) and logos (5 data).

Abstract

This research deals with the use of mobile phone in English teaching andlearning process at FKIP UMSU. The objective of this research is to find outstudents perceptions about the use of MobilePhonein English teaching andlearning process and to describe how do students use mobile phone in English teaching and learning process. The research was descriptive qualitative research. The data collected by interviewing 20 students. In this study the researcher collected the data by using interview that consist five question. The findings that students had different perceptions, namely: mobile phone is very help ful in English teaching and learning process, mobile phone is important in English teaching and learning process and mobile phone has advantages and disadvantages. In Englsih teaching and learning process, studentstake advantage of their mobile phone by using several applications, including:Google Translate, WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Gmail, U-Dictionary, Google,Camscanner, Oxford Dictionary of English, English Thesaurus, English Grammar,Irregular and Regular Verb,Offline Dictionary,My Dictionary.

Abstract

Semantics as the study of meaning stands at the very center of the linguistic quest to understand the nature of language and human language abilities. It is obvious that semantics has an important role in understanding and comprehending a language, especially for english. The aim of study is to elaborate the semantic both connotative and denotative are used in the E-News about covid-19 outbreak, to classified which the theme and rheme of textual function of discourse analysis in E-News about covid-19 outbreak. This study used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. The data was taken from E-News namely Jakarta Post. The script consisted of 3 pages were taken as the data. The data were 29 sentences. The realization parts of textual function occured because the clauses have grammatical and systematical reason. Its hope that the result of this study will be useful to everyone who wants to study meaning.

Abstract

This research deals with the study of register variation on social media posts about corona virus disease (Covid-19). The aim of this research is to investigate the types of register on social media posts specifically around covid-19 issues and to investigate the realization of register term in social media posts such as Instagram and twitter about covid-19 outbreak. The research is applied descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research is the text posts on social media that were taken through screenshot the posts identified register and notetaking. There 50 register terms found that were analyzed based on Miles and Huberman, including data reduction data display, and conclusion. Based on analysis, the research finding showed that register is realized based on Field, Tenor and Mode as the types of register. There are six function of register but the finding showed that realization of register on social media posts provided two functions such as information function and interaction function. The register terms are realized through monolingual (Bahasa) and Bilingual (Bahasa and English).

Abstract

This study deals with the analyzing of action verb in The Legend of Putri Hijau Comic Text. This study is conducted to analyzed types of action verb to find outthe dominate types of action verb in The Legend of Putri Hijau Comic Text. This research used the qualitative descriptive method. The types of action verb divided into 5 types of action verb: transitive verb, transitive active verb, transitive passive verb, intransitive verb, and intransitive complete verb.The researcher have found the result the data that the type of action verbin transitive verb were48 action verbs in transitive verbs type, 6 action verbs were found in transitive active verbs type, 7 action verbs were found in transitive passive verbs types, 3 action verbs were found in intransitive verb types,and 7action verbs were found in intransitive complete verb. The total all were 71 action verbs in The Legend of Putri Hijau comic text.Types of action verb that were dominated from the five types of action verb were action verb type transitive verb.

Abstract

This research was intended to find out the lexical relations in onang-onang lyrics of Angkola-Mandailing wedding ceremony. The methodology this research used descriptive qualitative method. The collecting data of this research are suitable the supported and criteria of the research. This research classified to seven types such as synonymy, antonymy, polysemy, hypernym, hyponymy and meronymy to found out the most dominant types of lexical relations in onang-onang lyrics in Angkola-Mandailing wedding ceremony. Finally, it was found that 5 datas of synonyms, 12 datas of antonymy, 5 datas of polysemy, 6 datas of hyponymy, 7 datas of homonym, and 10 of meronymy. Therefore, the writer found the most dominant types of lexical relations of this research was 12 of antonomy from 51 case total.

Abstract

This research discusses about Code Mixing. The objectives of this research are to find out 1) The types of word the level of code mixing, 2) How types of levels are realized, 3) The reason for the use type of the levels code mixing. The research on this thesis was carried by using descriptive qualitative. The data were taken from Boy Williams video youtube channel. The result of this research show that were four types of code mixing based on word classes, such as Noun occurred 6 utterances, adjective occurred 3 utterances, verb occurred 2 utterances, and adverb occurred 1 utterances. This research found code mixing realized such as bilingualism, speaker and partner speaking (showing solidarity), and prestige. The last this research also found the reason why the type of the levels code mixing are realized because of special purposes . Sometimes the speakers used two or more language to state their through or message such as talking about particular topic there are 9 utterances, being emphatic about something there are 2 utterances, and repetition used for clarification there are 2 utterances. This research was expected to deliver an introduction about the code mixing for the people who read the research.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the effect of using Blooms Taxonomy strategy on Students Ability to Reading Discussion Text. This research was conducted at SMA SWASTA ISLAM AZIZI MEDAN, on Jalan Kesatria, No.70, Kec. Medan Perjuangan, Kota Medan. The research conducted during the academic year 2019/2020. The population of this research took from the twelve grade students, which the total was 40 students. The sample was 40 student. This research, an experimental design would divided into two groups, the experimental and control group. The experimental group use Blooms taxonomy strategy, while The control group without use strategy. Control group over see, do not get better class control of the class experimental in give treatment. The Instrument of the research is written test. The result of this research showed that tobservedvalue was higher than ttable in which t-testt-table (9,552,021). The hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was a significant effect of using Blooms taxonomy strategy on Students Ability to Reading Discussion Text.
