Due to the limitations of accounting textbooks, students do not realize a broader potential of accounting can make to society outside a scorekeeping practice ascribing priority to shareholders. The purpose of this study is to explore how students in Indonesia use the recommended introductory financial accounting (IFA) textbook to understand whether they use it in a way that allows a more nuanced, contextual and broad-based understanding of accounting. Drawing on the results of four focus groups conducted with students who represent four accounting degrees of Indonesian universities, the study reveals that students are strongly attached to the recommended textbook. It seemed they could not get away from having to use the text if they were to succeed in the course. Therefore, the intellectual source of these students was solely the neoclassical economic paradigm, the primary emphasis of which is satisfying the materialist desires of shareholders. This was evident in the perspectives of both students of conventional and Islamic accounting programs.

This study was conducted with the aim of obtaining empirical evidence of the relationship between financial statement manipulation and CFOs characteristics to the timeliness of financial reporting by using audit quality as a moderator. The data used in this study is 206 observations derived from the financial statements of companies listed in the Indonesia stock exchange for the period of 2012-2015. This research uses moderation regression method with panel data. The manipulation of financial statements in this study was measured using the Benneish (M-Score) model, the characteristics of CFOs were measured regarding three categories consisting of gender, tenure and educational background, and audit quality was measured using industrial proxies of audit specialization. The results of this study support the first hypothesis that the manipulation of financial statements negatively affects the timeliness of financial statements. Meanwhile CFOs characteristic has no significant influence on the timeliness of financial reporting and audit quality cannot moderate the influence of financial statement manipulation and CFOs characteristic, hence it does not support another hypothesis of this study.

The objective of this study isto comprehend different practices of accounting and auditing across countries. Although over 120 countries use similar accounting and auditing standards, resulting from converging towards IFRS and ISA respectively, a difference of accounting and auditing practices still exists. It needs a comprehensive theory or analytical framework to explain such differences. Yet, there is still a limited overarching theory and comprehensive analytical framework to explain different accounting and auditing practices. Hofstede's work on culture, which is widely used in accounting and auditing research, may be useful to comprehend various accounting and auditing practices. Alternative explanations using political and economic factors are also often proposed to explain the dissimilarities. These fragmentary approaches seem to result in lack of understanding on the issue. Seeking theories or analytical tools to provide an enhanced explanation of why accounting and auditing practiced differently may be worthwhile avenues.

This paper aims to observe the impact of climate change disclosure (CCD) towards corporate financial performance (CFP) proxied by returns on assets (ROA), return on sales (ROS), and sales growth. Linear and non-linear approaches are employed for this research. Recommendation from Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) are applied for content analysis to obtain CCD scores. The target population in this study is 45 best performing companies (LQ45) listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) that disclosed sustainability report from 2014 to 2018. The number of observations is 72 year-companies. The findings show that CCD in large companies decreases ROS and improves ROA, yet in general, the improvement occurs in the long term for ROA and sales growth after a certain level is met (U-curve). In general, providing climate-related information will eventually pay. Financial improvement of the companies has increased despite of low quality of CCD and an indication of positive customer reaction to CCD is noticeable.
