Abstract

This article examines Qur’anic epistemology through the lens of virtue epistemology as a response to the epistemic crisis of the post-truth era. Previous studies on Qur’anic epistemology have primarily focused on the sources and methods of knowledge, while the dimension of epistemic virtues has received limited attention. This study employs a library research method with a conceptual approach to the Qur’anic verses and contemporary epistemological literature. The findings reveal that Qur’anic epistemology integrates reason, sensory perception, and the heart, with taqwa serving as the epistemic foundation and hikmah as the highest epistemological goal. This framework regards public benefit (maslahah) as an essential criterion of valid knowledge and emphasizes epistemic responsibility, epistemic justice, and intellectual humility. The study demonstrates that Qur’anic epistemology contributes to the discourse of virtue epistemology and provides a normative framework for addressing the challenges of the post-truth era.

Abstract

This article revisits QS. Al-Hujurat (49): 6 as a Qur'anic ground for digital tabayyun in Islamic communication. The problem discussed is not only the spread of hoaxes, but also the speed with which religious messages are shared before their sources, context, and social effects are examined. The study uses a qualitative library approach by reading Qur'anic communication verses thematically and relating them to verification, framing, audience awareness, gatekeeping, and digital literacy. The analysis finds that tabayyun is a moral pause before speaking, posting, forwarding, or framing religious content. Qaulan sadidan emphasizes accurate and honest wording, qaulan baligha calls for audience-sensitive expression, and da'wah bi al-hikmah guides the circulation of messages with wisdom. The article proposes three ethical steps for Islamic communication in digital spaces: verification, formulation, and dissemination. Through these steps, Qur'anic tafsir can speak to contemporary communication practice, so religious messages remain truthful, responsible, and socially calming amid the pressure of viral culture.
