Abstract

Several methods have been used for screening antioxidant activity, one of them is the DPPH method. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay is the most commonly used antioxidant assay for plantextract. These assays can be time-consuming or require specializedequipment. The purpose of this research is to find out the antioxidantactivity using a spectrophotometer visible. Methanolic extract fromSrikaya (Annona squamosa L) leaves was obtained by the macerationprocess. Extract series was made at 100, 125, 150, 175, and 200(μg/mL) then reacted with 1 mL of DPPH (50 μg/mL). Afteroperating time in 30 minutes, measured the absorbance at 517 nm andantioxidant activity were calculated. The antioxidant activity can bemeasured simply using a spectrophotometer visible with DPPHreagent. From this reasearch, the maximum lamda is 517 nm. Themethanolic extract is strong with IC50 value of 99,20 μg/mL

Abstract

Ferns are cormophyte plants with spore, which can live anywhere. The number of ferns and their spread is high, especially in tropicalrain areas. The purpose of this study was to determine theantibacterial activity of the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fraction ofethanol extract of the red atai fern (Plagiogyria pycnophylla (Kunze)Mett.) leaves against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The stages ofthe study were sample collection, extraction, fractionation, phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity testing using theKirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. The results showed that the nhexanefraction each of 2,5%; 5%; 10% and 20% concentrations hada medium category with successive inhibition zone diameter values of7,20 mm ± 0,60; 7,55 mm ± 0,07; 7,56 mm ± 0,48 and 7,73 mm ±0,88. The ethyl acetate fraction at a concentration of 2.5%, 5% and10% had medium category inhibition with diameter of inhibitionzones respectively 7,97 mm ± 0,81; 8,55 mm ± 0,49 and 9,12 mm ±0,35, while at a concentration of 20% have strong category (13,73mm ± 0,75). From the results of the above study, it can be concludedthat the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract ofthe red atai fern (Plagiogyria pycnophylla (Kunze) Mett.) leaves haveantibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria are symbiotic microorganisms that live in plant tissues and an alternative producer of bioactive compounds that have the potential to be antibacterial. The study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the bacteria Pseudomonas knackmussii and Bacillus siamensis in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 as well as knowing the optimum time of fermentation of endophytic bacteria with the greatest antibacterial activity. The study was conducted in several stages, namely the identification of pathogenic bacteria and endophytic bacteria, fermentation of endophytic bacteria and antibacterial activity tests. Some treatment groups were ciprofloxacin 5μg as a positive control, sterile paper with sterile Brain-Heart Infusion (BHI) media as negative control andendophytic bacterial fermentation supernatant for 4 days as a test group. The results showed endophytic bacteria from taro tubers had antibacterial activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and E. coli ATCC 25922. The optimum time of fermentation with the largest antibacterial activity against S. aureus was on the 3rd day with inhibitory value of 9.69 mm produced by P. knakcmussii and 9,20 mm by B. siamensis while for E. coli the optimum time to ferment P. knackmussii is on the 2nd day with inhibitory values of 11.83 mm and B. siamensis on the 4th day of 10.78 mm.

Abstract

Abstract

Self medication is the act of selecting and using drugs by someone totreat a disease or symptom that can be recognized by themselves. Thatpractice is based on the thought that self medication is sufficient totreat minor ailments without involving medical staff. But in itsimplementation there are still medication error, because of that, monitoring is needed from pharmacist. Society needs appropriateknowledge to get the right behavior in self medication. Methampyronis one of the analgetic drug from nonsteroidal antiinflammatory grups(NSAID) that are included in the apothecary medicine (OWA) no. 1.This research aims to determine the correlation between knowledgewith self medication behavior towards methampyron use inpharmacies. This research is an observational analytic study withcros sectional method approach and using a purpose samplingtechnique with 88 respondents conducted in Apr – June 2019. Theresult of this research indicate that 83% of respondents have goodknowledge and 17% of respondents have sufficient knowledge. In selfmedication behavior, the use of methampyron shows 86% ofrespondents have good rationality and 14% of respondents havesufficient rationality. Where knowledge and rationality selfmedication behavior there is a significant relationship with asignificance value of 0,016 (< 0,050). From these results, it can beconcluded that the rationality behavior is closely related to theknowledge of self medication.
