Abstract

The problem lies in the apparent decrease in the accuracy and strength of the serving performance of theAnbar University team in tennis and the lack of focus on the mental abilities and linking them to thephysical and skillful aspects, which necessitated the researchers to go into this problem through thedevelopment of sensory - kinetic exercises to address this decline. The research aims at identifying theeffect of sensory-kinetic exercises in the development of the functional abilities, and the accuracy andstrength of serving in tennis. The researchers hypothesized that the impact of exercises has a statisticalsignificance on the functional abilities and the accuracy and strength of the skill of serving in tennis. They used the experimental approach to design the two equal groups and on a sample of (12) players. The field procedures of the research were by conducting the pretests on Wednesday, 4/10/2017 at 11amon the outdoor tennis court and the closed hall at the college. The sensory-kinetic exercises were carriedout over 6 weeks at three units per week. On Sunday, 12/11/2017 at 11 am the post-tests were conductedin the same court and conditions similar to the conducting of the pretests. The researchers concludedthat the controlling and experimental groups developed but the experimental group that used sensorykineticexercises was more advanced in the post-tests. They recommend the emphasis on using thesensory-kinetic exercises to develop the skill of serving, other tennis skills, and other individual andteam sports. Keywords: Sensory, Kinetic exercises, Functional abilities, Accuracy and Serving skill.

Abstract

Objective: Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) is one of the drugs used in antiplatelet therapy. ASA is rapidly hydrolyzed to salicylic acid (SA) and has low levels in plasma. Analysis of ASA and SA in plasma has been done using LC-MS/MS, UHPLC, and HPLC with hydrolysis and fluorescence detector. Compared to those methods, HPLC equipped with UV detector is less expensive. The method using HPLC with UV detector also has been done but not sensitive enough according to the LLOQ. Therefore a sensitive and selective analysis method needs to be developed. This study aims to develop an analytical method of ASA and SA in human plasma using HPLC with UV detector.Method: The method used in this study is Reversed Phase - High Performance Liquid Chromatography using C18 column (Waters, Reliant™ 5 μm; 250 x 4.6 mm) with UV-Vis detector and was detected at wavelength of 230 nm. This method was developed using furosemide as internal standard (IS). Human plasma containing ASA and SA was extracted after protein precipitaion method using 15% perchloric acid with a liquid-liquid extraction method using ethyl acetate.Result: The method obtained was linear (r ≥ 0.99) at concentration range of 0.05 – 1.5 μg/mL for ASA and concentration range of 0.2 – 5.0 μg/mL for SA. The validation result of ASA and SA analytical method fulfilled the validation requirement of EMEA Bioanalytical Guideline in the year 2011. Therefore the method provides modest, sensitive, and selective measurements of ASA and SA concentrations.

Abstract

Background: Many etiological factors participate in initiation and development of males’ infertility. Leptin is an adipokine that play a crucial role in obesity and many other biological effects. One of these its effects are on Hypothalamus and Pituitary glands to which males’ infertility may be attributed.  Aims of Study: This study was designed to investigate the role of Leptin and its’ receptor in development of infertility among Iraqi males Materials & Methods: Seventy sub-fertile males were included in this investigation to estimate Leptin and its receptor levels in seminal plasma by ELISA techniques. All patients had been diagnosed as a sub-fertile male under the supervision of consultant physician.  Seminal fluid analysis was performed for each patient. Body mass index for each patient was calculated besides sera LH, FSH and testosterone hormones determinations and the results of the above tests were compared with those for 30 normal fertile men who matched the patients in their ages. All data has been analyzed statistically. Results: The results revealed highly significant decline in the mean of leptin levels (27.283±3.034ng/ ml) among patients in comparison with healthy fertile control group (47.975±7.152 ng/ ml) (P=0.002). Moreover, LH hormone showed an increment in its mean level (34.699±1.594) in highly significant manner in comparison with control group (14.859±1.947) (P= 0.001). This study referred to highly significant correlation between leptin receptor and BMI (P=0.0001), in addition to significant correlation with testosterone (P=0.046). Meanwhile significant correlation was observed between leptin and FSH (P=0.027). Conclusion: In view of the above results it can be concluded that there is an association between Leptin and FSH which in turn significantly correlated with sperms’ count and theirs ’motility. Keywords: Leptin, Obesity, Sex hormones, LH, FSH, Testosterone, Seminal fluid analysis.

Abstract

Many compounds demonstrated an anti-fibrotic activity, but none have been used in the clinics. The current study aims to assess the in-vivo emodin anti-fibrotic activity in liver fibrosis. Thirty-two mice were divided into four groups; the first group is composed of eight healthy mice to be a negative control group, while the remaining twenty-four mice had received intraperitoneal carbon tetrachloride 1ml/kg twice weekly for six weeks. Then, eight of these mice were sacrificed to be a positive control group, while the remaining sixteen mice were divided into two groups; one received six intraperitoneal doses every other day of emodin 40 mg/kg and the other received silymarin 20 mg/kg. Mice livers have taken and examined histopathologically to confirm the diagnosis of liver fibrosis and to assess the antifibrotic effects of emodin, then immunohistochemical evaluation was done for collagen III and Interleukin-4 secretion. Statistics used are ANOVA test followed by Tukey’s post HOC analysis. Emodin reduces fibrosis significantly in histopathologic sections, collagen content and Interleukin-4 content (in which p˂0.0001 was significant). There is no significant difference between emodin and silymarin in lowering fibrosis grade (p=0.1411), collagen III level (p=0.958729), and interleukin-4 level (p=0.144028). Emodin anti-fibrotic effects is related to lowering nuclear factor-ĸB leading to IL-4 lowering, decrease of epithelial mesenchymal transition by increasing E-cadherin, suppression of TGF-ß1 Smad signaling, Up-regulation of metastasis‑ associated gene 3, inhibits the Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) pathway, and blocking the migration and proliferation of HSCs induced by platelet derived growth factor. Emodins have anti-fibrotic activity comparable to that of silymarin and can alleviate liver cirrhosis. Keywords: Liver fibrosis, Collagen III, Emodin, Interleukin-4, Silymarin.
