Abstract

The present work describes the synthesis and characterization and biological studies of new transition metal complexes derived from Azo ligand(LH) of 6-hydroxycoumarine. The new azo LH was synthesized from condensation the diazonum salt chloride of 5-methylmercapto-2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole with alkaline solution of 6-hydroxycoumari at 0 C temperature. The octahedral geometry was adopted fpr the prepared complexes in 2:1 mole ratio of L/M up on CHNM analyses and other spectroscopic methods. The ligand LH and metal complexes were confirmed their structures with the help of CHNM analyses, NMR, MS, UV-Visibel spectra and magnetic and molar conductivity measurements. The biological assays of the solutions of LH and it s metal complexes in DMSO solvent were screenec against some positive, negative grams bacteria and some fungal organisms. The observed results from diffusion method revealed that almost metal complexes have higher activity rather than the free solutions ofv LH due to the chelation theory of inhibition zone

Abstract

Background Red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunization is the formation of alloantibodies among the recipientswhich is related to the frequency of antigen-positive blood transfusion received by the recipient. The difficultyto obtain compatible RBC and a higher risk of hemolytic transfusion reactions due to alloimmunizationbecome a challenge in clinical practice. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the characteristics of RBCalloantibodies in the recipient following transfusion at Sanglah General Hospital, Bali, as a preliminary study. Methods A cross sectional study was conducted among 40 recipients with a history of RBC transfusion atleast 3 times and willing to participate in this study from December 2016 to March 2017 at Sanglah General Hospital. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 16 software to determine the prevalence of study. Resultsmost recipients were 46 – 65 years (55%). In addition, most recipients were caused by hematology disorder (57.5%), female (52.5%), and O-Rhesus D positive (52.5%). RBC alloantibodies detected in 5% of recipients, all of them were multiple alloantibodies, such as anti-K antibodies (5%), anti-Kp a (5%), anti-E (2.5%), anti-C w(2.5%), anti-Lu a (2.5%) and anti-M (2.5%). Those alloantibodies only found in 46 – 65 years age group. Conclusion the first preliminary study regarding RBC alloimmunization in Bali was found contributed by anti-K,anti Kp a , anti-E, anti-C w , anti-Lu a , and anti-M. The results suggest that erythrocyte antigen phenotypes can beperformed further, particularly the Kell antigen to prevent alloimmunization. However, future studies withbigger samples are needed to determine the incidence of RBCalloimmunization among transfusion recipients in Bali. Keywords: Alloimmunization, Red blood cells, Transfusion recipients.

Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate the effects that could be caused by ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum  zeylanicum) powder addition to diet of broileron some physiological parameters. A total of 150 one-day-old mixed-sex broiler chicks were distributed into 3 treatments, comprising 5 replicates per treatment, with 10 chicks for each replicate. 1st group (control) fed on the standard diet during the experimental period (42 days), 2nd group (T1) and 3rd group (T2) fed on standard diet mixed with 500&1000 mg/kg of CNP, respectively. On 1st and 42nd day of experiment, body weight was recorded. As well as, blood samples were collected at the end of experiment, for assessment of RBC and WBC counts, PVC, Hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and heterophils/lymphocytes ratio (H/L). Total protein, Albumin, globulin, Triiodothyronine (T3) and Tetraiodothyronine (T4) concentrations in blood serum were determined. The statistical analysis registered the significant (P<0.05) elevation in the body weight on 42nd day of experiment inT1 and T2 groups comparing with the control. The results revealed that the second and third groups recorded significant (P<0.05) increase in RBC and WBC counts, as well as, PVC and HB concentration. While H/L significant (P<0.05) decline in T1 and T2 groups comparing with the control. At the same time, the result of total protein, globulin, T3 and T4concentrations revealed a significant increment (P<0.05) in two treated groups when compared with control. Abstract

Cherry tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum) have been popularly consumed as functional food by their antioxidants as well as good apperance with bright red color and delicious flavor. But cherry tomatoes are prone to desiccation shrinkage and fruit softening during storage, resulting in the decrease of their commodity value. The major postharvest losses of tomatoes are due to fungal infection, physiological disorders, and physical injuries.  The prevalent method of preservation of postharvest cherry tomatoes is the use of moderately low temperatures and high humidity. However, low temperatures induce chilling injury. Application of edible coating on tomatoes is able to reduce quality changes and slow down moisture loss by controlling and modifying the internal atmosphere of the individual fruits. The great benefit conferred by edible coatings is that these are natural biodegradable products. An investigation on coating of cherry tomatoes by using carrageenan and xanthan gum was investigated. Cherry tomatoes which were coated with 0.75% carrageenan still maintained good quality until 30 days of preservation. Keywords: Cherry tomates, Carrageenan, Xanthangum, Biodegradable, Coating, Storage, Shelf-life.
