Abstract

The liver is an important part of human digestive system. The organ’s function include food metabolism, energy storage, waste removal, detoxicification, immune system support and production of chemicals. There are several things damage the liver such as toxic substances, viruses, medications, genetic diseases and alcohol. Some of the herbal drugs and its extracts showed a good potentials for use in liver diseases.  Therefore, the present work constitutes a review of the literature on plant extracts and chemically defined molecules of natural origin with hepatoprotective activity. In addition diet and lifestyle changes can help to improve the conditions of hepatotoxicity.

Abstract

The importance of Nano molecular polymers has grown in the industry, depending on its mechanical and physical properties. With the development and growth of technology, engineering applications of polymers have increased, combining light weight and high density, enabling them to be used in high performance applications. The present research aims to study the mechanical behavior of epoxy resin with phenol formaldehyde resin and the reinforcement of Graphite nanoparticles (10 nm) and weight loss (0-40%). These characteristics include compressive force, flexural force, and elastic coefficient. The results showed an improvement in the properties of composite materials after reinforcement by graphite (Nano and micro), which will increase the properties by increasing the proportion of nanoparticles compared to micro particles.

Abstract

The study included measuring the concentration 17 congeners from PCDD/Fs (7 PCDDs and 10 PCDFs) in the blood lipids of workers collecting and burning of waste for 56 candidates, the range of age was 23–42 years, classified into two categories depending on the period of exposure. The first category (category 2) includes 27 persons, the exposure period was <10 years, the mean age was 30.3±3.5 years, the mean PCDDs, PCDFs and PCDD/Fs were 8.61, 5.34 and 13.95 (pg WHO–TEQ/g lipid), respectively. The second category (category3) includes 29 persons, the exposure period was >10 years. The mean age was 35.6±2.8 years, the mean PCDDs, PCDFs and PCDD/Fs were 9.89, 5.65 and 15.54 (pg WHO–TEQ/g lipid), respectively. The data were compared with a control group (category1) (general (non-exposed) populations) including 50 candidates; the mean age was 32.2± 2.6 years, the mean PCDDs, PCDFs and PCDD/Fs were 6.87, 3.38 and 10.25 (pg WHO–TEQ/g lipid), respectively. Abstract

The increases in incidence of drug resistance among pathogenic fungi have made the search for new anti-microorganism inevitable. Nowadays, the synthesis of metal nanoparticles by using green methods is increased rapidly. We synthesized Silver nanoparticles from Citrus aurantium L. and Citrus sinensis L. leaves. AgNPs biosynthesized were characterized by particle analyzer, zeta potential, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-Vis spectroscopy to study the diameter of particles, structure properties of samples, and optical spectroscopy properties respectively. The results obtained revealed that size of AgNPs were 60.5 and 31.72 nm for Citrus aurantium L. and Citrus sinensis L. leaves respectively, with crystallized face-centered cubic structure. The AgNPs biosynthesis showed effective inhibitory antifungal activity against Candida albicanns.Keywords: Biophysics, Antibacterial test, Physical properties.

Abstract

A new approach was used for the determination of Mebeverine hydrochloride (MIP-HCl) via the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from erythrosine B (Erth-B) which used as a carrier stream. The method was applied using flow injection system of a new homemade ISNAG fluorimeter with fluorescence measurements at ± 90◦ via 2×4 solar cell. The linear range for the new developed methodology was 0.01 – 0.6 mmol/L with correlation coefficient r = 0.9577. While the L.O.D was 0.699 µg/sample (sample volume 250 µL) from the stepwise dilution for the minimum concentration in the linear dynamic ranged of the calibration graph. The method was successfully applied to the determination of Mebeverine hydrochloride (MIP-HCl) in three different pharmaceutical drugs. A comparison was made between the newly developed method analysis and the classical method using t-test. It was noticed that there was no significant difference between the two methods at 95 % confidence level.Keywords: Mebeverine hydrochloride, Erythrosine B, Flow injection analysis, Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET).

Abstract

Nosocomial infections caused by Pseudomonas earugenosa (P. earugenosa) presenting resistance to beta-lactam drugs are one of the most challenging targets for antimicrobial therapy, leading to substantial increase in mortality rates in hospitals worldwide. In this context, P. earugenosa isolates that isolated form Ibn-Al Haitham teaching hospital for eyes diseases had carried blaCTX-M gene which have the highest clinical impact. Hence, this study was designed to investigate the presence of genes codifying for bla CTX-M among beta-lactam resistant P. earugenosa isolated in one of Baghdad hospitals. Antibiotic sensitivity was carried out using Kirby-Bauer method, and polymerase chain reaction was carried out in addition to the gell electrophoresis, the genotypic and the sequencing in aadtion the phylogetic tree were done. Thirteen P. aerogenosa isolates were isolated from corneal scraping specimens and the results of antibiotic sensitivity showed that the most effective antibiotic on P. aerogenosa isolates was impeniem with 13(100%) sensitivity rate while the highest resistance was to cefozlen 13(100%) resistance rate. The investigation of the blaCTX-M gene via polymerase chain reaction showed the presence of blaCTX gene (544bp) in 3(23.1%) P. aerogenosa isolates. The sequencing of blaCTX-M amplicons confirmed the correct identification of blaCTX-M gene among P. aerogenosa isolates and the data obtained from the sequencing of blaCTX-Mgene was submitted to the GenBank of National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under the accession number (KY966041). Molecular phylogenetic analyses were based on the sequences of blaCTX gene and closest relatives (100% identity) with closely related blaCTX-M gene of some bacterial isolates in the GenBank by using MEGA6 software.Keywords: Pseudomonas aerogenosa, blaCTX M gene and phylogetic tree.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of bismuth sulfide Bi2S3 metalnanoparticles as carries on the pharmaceutical properties and biologic activity of Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS) class II drug clarithromycin (CLA). Methods: Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) nanoparticles synthesized by chemical co-precipitation technique, during which CLA loaded (incorporation method). Characterizations techniques including atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) were used for particle size and particle size distribution, crystal lattice and compatibility, respectively. USP puddle apparatus type II (in phosphate buffer solution pH 7.4) was used for in-vitro release study. Disc diffusion method was the technique used to test the antibacterial activity of blank Bi2S3 nanoparticles; free CLA (as control) and CLA loaded metal nanoparticles. Results: CLA was loaded successfully with synthesized Bi2S3 nanoparticles by physical interaction without any chemical modification, as approved by FTIR. Particle size of CLA was reduced from 116.17 to 95.5 nm after loading process with uniform particle size distribution (as measured by AFM). In vitro release study demonstrated complete release of CLA from Bi2S3 nanoparticles after 120 min, indicating significant*increase in the solubility and dissolution profile of CLA after loading process. XRD spectrum showed lattice transition from crystalline into amorphous structure. Susceptibility test displayed significant*potentiation of antibacterial activity at all tested concentrations against gram +ve bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis after loading of CLA with Bi2S3 nanoparticles, while gram –ve bacteria E. coli showed no response for CLA before and after loading process. Bi2S3 nanoparticles showed no antibacterial activity against all tested bacterial cultures. Conclusion: The use of synthesized metal Bi2S3 nanoparticles, as nanocarriers, was applied successfully as an attractive delivery system for the improvement in the solubility, dissolution profile and biologic activity of BCS class II drug CLA.Keywords: Class II drug; Clarithromycin (CLA); Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3)nanoparticles.

Abstract

A new series of gemcitabine derivatives containing imine structure have been prepared efficiently by reaction gemcitabine with some aromatic aldehydes. The structures of the imine derivatives were confirmed by many spectroscopic methods such as elemental analysis, FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The α-glucosidase activity was evaluated of end compounds in vitro. All imine derivatives  were showed α-glucosidase inhibition with IC50 values 223±1.24, 244±2.32, 94±1.01, 268±1.35, 387±2.12, 78±1.42, 145±1.32, 54±2.41 µM respectively, when compared with the control drug (IC50 = 784.35 ± 2.41 µM).Compound (g8) have higher therapeutic indices, representing possible promising roles. Overall result suggests that gemcitabine derivatives containing Schiff base structure (g1-g8) could be lead a new design in this study of novel α-glucosidase inhibitor.Keywords: Gemcitabine, Imine, Diabetes mellitus and α-Glucosidase Inhibitors.

Abstract

The study included isolating, diagnosing and studying the ability of  Bacillus thuringiensis to kill Culex pipiens larvae, the samples were isolated from different places of agricultural soils in Diyala province. The results of the fermentation medium to grow the B thuringiensis inoculums showed that the best liquid fermentation medium was the barley extract, with 20 gm. A ratio of sucrose per liter mixed with 20 mg of the Amoxicillin antibiotic. The bacterial density in it was 221x106 colony forming unit/ml. Then carry the bacterial suspension on calcium carbonate, preparation three concentrations (1, 2, 3g) of the dry preparation/liter of sterilized water. The results show that the effect of different concentrations of B.thuringiensis on the death rate larvae of Culex pipiens was significant, it was the highest value of dead larvae it was (2.52) at 3 g/L concentrations of B. thuringiensis sand the lowest value of dead larvae it was (0.92) at 1 g/L concentration of B.thuringiensis, at a significant level (0.05).  There were also significant differences between the days, the highest value of dead larvae it was in the fourth day of treatment (2.55) and the lowest value of dead larvae it was on the first day of treatment (0.15) at a significant level (0.05). Twenty-four hours after the initiation of the treatment of larvae Culex pipiens with the bio product of B.thuringiensis, she appeared symptoms of change in behavior, slowed the moving of larvae gradually until completely stopped movement and shrunk, due to the effect of crystalline protein , which decomposes in the middle gut of the larvae and is associated with receptors in the membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, then poison enters the membrane causing the weakness of the epithelial cells and swelling and dissolution causing holes in the membrane  or that the toxins of the bacteria may lead to a disturbance in the nervous system leading to paralysis in the organs responsible for feeding and then the death of larvae from hunger.Keywords: Bacillus thuringiensis, Bioproduct, Mosquitoes, Culex pipiens, Larvae, death.
Estimation Some Heavy Elements in Drinking Water in Baghdad City / Al Rusafa Salem Saleh Al-Tamimi

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the drinking water content of bacteria, yeast, mildew colon bacteria and heavy metals in Baghdad city /Al-Rusafa. Fifteen water samples were collected from different cities including (Al-Karrada, Al-Dora, Palestine street , Obeidi, Zafaraniyah, Kamaliyya, Zayouna, Adhamiya, Ur district, Talbiya, Jamila, Al-Bnouk district, Shaab, Baladiyat, Al- Mustansiriya district), Heavy elements were estimated in these samples, which including (Chrome Co, Lead pb, Copper CU, Cadmium Cd and Nickel Ni), Some microbiological tests were performed including detection of the total number of bacteria, Yeasts and Mildew and colon bacteria by using Bac Trac device. Results showed that heavy elements concentrations ranged from 0.1000-2.787 ppm for chrome element and 0.021-0.338 ppm for Lead, 0.0096-0.2461 ppm for copper, 0.2108-0.3308 ppm for Cadmium, and 0.0065-0.6556 ppm for Nickel. Clearly it was shown that concentrations of lead, chrome and cadmium higher than the Iraqi standard specifications specified No. 417 on 2009 related with drinking water. The results of this study showed that all samples were free from all microbial content and this result were matching by the Iraqi standard specifications above mentioned.Keywords: Iraqi drinking water-Microbial content-heavy metal.
