Abstract

The objective of the present work was to formulate and to characterize multi unit floating drug delivery system of Dipyridamole to increase the bioavailability and sustain the drug release properties up to 8 h with more predictable drug release kinetics that avoids all or nothing emptying effect. Dipyridamole floating mini-tablets were prepared  by effervescent approach with melt granulation and direct compression techniques alone and in combination using Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) K100M and Compritol 888 ATO at different concentrations (20%, 30% and 40% w/w) alone and in combination. Evaluations were carried out on physical parameters, floating behavior and influence of type of polymer on drug release rate of prepared mini tablet formulations. All the formulations were subjected to various quality control and in-vitro dissolution studies and corresponding dissolution data were fitted to popular release kinetic equations in order to evaluate release mechanisms and kinetics. All the dipyridamole floating mini tablet formulations followed zero order kinetics. As per Korsmeyer-Peppas equation, the release exponent “n” ranged 0.619-0.748 indicating that drug release from all the formulations was by non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. Based on the results, dipyridamole floating mini tablets prepared by employing combination of 15% w/w HPMC K100M and 15% w/w Compritol 888 ATO offered desired in-vitro floating time and drug dissolution profile.

Abstract

Nephelium lappaceum L. (Family- Sapindaceae), popularly known as ‘Rambutan’, is well known for its edible fruits with delicious taste and flavour in Southeast Asia. The fruits are deseeded during processing in the canning industry and considered as a waste by-product. The seeds contain good amount of fatty material and has been claimed to be a source of natural edible fat. The objective of the study was to report the physicochemical parameters of the seed fat together with formulation of few topical preparations such as creams and lotions containing the seed fat that would offer new prototype formulations containing natural ingredients. The physicochemical analysis of the seed fat such as melting point, saponification value, acid value, ester value and peroxide value were studied. The GC-MS analysis of the seed fat was carried out to find its chemical composition. Further, two topical preparations such as creams and lotions were prepared using the seed fat and evaluated using standard recommended procedures. The seed fat was compatible to be used as an ingredient in the bases of creams or lotions. Keywords: N. lappaceum seed fat, Physicochemical analysis, GC-MS analysis, Topical formulations

Abstract

ABSTRACT:Nanotechnology is a promising technique to increase the bioavailability of herbal medicines. The present study was  formulated to evaluate nanoparticles using an ethanolic extract of Cocculus pendulus. The sonoprecipitation technique was employed for the preparation of nanosuspensions with poloxamer-407 and PVA with many trails and finally the optimized nanosuspension demonstrated a mean particle size, polydispersity index, and zeta potential of 536 nm, 0.256, and − 17.6 mV, respectively. The results of the characterization studies illustrated that the nanosuspension was in the nanometer size range and spherical in shape had good surface morphology. The present outcomes clearly demonstrated that to obtain an effective therapeutic potential, nanoformulation of medicinal plants is a better alternative than conventional dosage forms. Key words:Nanosuspension, sonoprecipitation, mean particle size, polydispersity index, and zeta potential

Abstract

Our mother nature is an abundant treasure of medicinal plants. Many of the plants have active constituents like alkaloids, benzoquinones, catechols, carotenoids, flavonoids, glycosides, flavanol glycosides, steroid glycosides, glycoalkaloids, terpenoids, monoterpenoids, diterpenoids, triterpene saponins, sterols and polyphenols which are proved to be having tissue rejuvenation property. Which can be made use in critical conditions like nephropathy which can be curable only with kidney transplantation or dialysis, which are even unaffordable to common man. It will be very useful to isolate active ingredients from easily available medicinal plants which can be effectively used for conditions like Chronic Kidney Disease. India is a country which extensively follows different forms of medications like allopathy, Ayurveda, siddha and unani among them traditional system of medicine is considered to be pretty much important. The biodiversity of India helps traditional healers to explore vast possibility of it. Modern medicine gets ample support by evaluating and isolating natural, semisynthetic, and synthetic derivatives of effective phytoconstituents of herbs. The information’s regarding such medicinal plants is exclusively possessed by certain tribal communities all over India. This article also points towards some plants used by traditional healers of different tribal communities of Kerala. Keywords: Nephroprotective, Herbal medicine, Tribal communities.
