Abstract

New methodology for sitagliptin phosphate determination via on-line continuous flow injection manifold design of sitagliptin phosphate-phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) system. The method was applied using continuous flow injection system of a new homemade ISANG -fluorimeter with turbidity measurements at 900 via 2×4 solar cell. Chemical and physical parameters were studied and optimized. The calibration graph was the linear dynamic in the range of (0.1-4.5 mmol.L-1) which was better representation, with correlation coefficient r=0.9965 .The limit of detection (LOD) 35.999µg/sample from the stepwise dilution for the minimum concentration in the linear dynamic ranged of the calibration graph. The method was successfully applied for the determination of sitagliptin phosphate (STP) in two pharmaceuticals preparation of different companies. A comparison was made between the newly developed method analysis with the classical method (UV- spectrophotometry at λ max =267 nm) using the standard addition method via the use of individual and paired t-test and F-test. It was noticed that there was a significant difference between two methods at 95 % confidence level. Keywords: Sitagliptin phosphate, Turbidity, Flow injection analysis. Introduction

Abstract

Listeriosis is one of the most serious and severe foodborne diseases characterized by a high mortality rate of 20% to 44%. The purpose of the research is to study the age-related features of the clinical symptoms of listeriosis in adults, as well as the influence of comorbid conditions on its course. The study included 73 patients with listeriosis (43 (58.9%) men and 30 (41.1%) women; average age (48.83 ± 6.29) years). They were divided into 2 groups: group 1 (n = 29) - patients aged 18-49 years, group 2 (n = 44) - patients aged over 50 years. Septicemia is most common clinical syndrome in patients with listeriosis, presented in 46 (63%) patients. It’s followed by damages of the central nervous system, namely meningitis and meningoencephalitis in 26 (35.6%) patients; gastroenteritis in 10 (13.7%) patients; and skin lesions in 3 (4.1%) patients. Septicemia was a typical clinical syndrome for patients over 50 years old - in 33 (75%) patients compering to 13 (44.8%) in the younger age group (OR = 3.69, 95% CI [1.36-10.04]). The damages of the central nervous system, namely meningitis and meningoencephalitis were typical for younger age group - 16 (55.2%) patients while 10 (22.7%) cases among the older age group (OR = 4.18, 95% CI [1, 51-11.56]). The mortality rate was 27.4% (of which 80% of deaths occurred in the older age group). Listeriosis is characterized by a severe course and a high mortality rate from septicemia and CNS damages. It is the cause of concomitant pathology development in immunocompromised individuals. Keywords: Adult listeriosis, Age-related features of listeriosis, mortality in listeriosis, Comorbid conditions and listeriosis, Prevention of listeriosis.

Abstract

Background: Low public knowledge and understanding, contributing to late diagnosis, has identified cancer morbidity and mortality from breast cancer. This study was designed to describe breast cancer knowledge and awareness and evaluate breast screening practice among Yogyakarta women. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 350 low socioeconomic women in rural and urban Yogyakarta areas was conducted using a validated self-designed structured questionnaire. Analyzing data using descriptive statistics. Results: A vast majority of respondents knew that breast cancer is a severe disease (85.14%) and can be detected as early as possible (60.00%). Genetic and family cancer history was the best accepted risk factor for breast cancer (61.43%), followed by oral contraception (44.57%), radiation (31.43%), smoking (28.86%) and alcohol intake (21.71%). Over half of respondents (65.14%) correctly identified niple and color discharge as one of the symptoms of breast cancer, followed by breast lump (60.00%), breast swelling (56.29%) and breast fluid (44.57%). While 56.57 percent of respondents had heard of breast self-examination ( BSE) and mammography, only 26.86 percent of respondents had regularly performed BSE, and only 28.00 percent of respondents reported daily mammography. A large proportion of respondents (72.86%) never diagnosed breast cancer. Conclusion: In Yogyakarta, the study reported inadequate breast cancer awareness and poor breast screening practice among women with low socioeconomic status aged 20-50 years. Health care professionals are fairly required to educate women about breast cancer and promote early detection and breast cancer screening programs to prevent and reduce breast cancer incidence and mortality.

Abstract

Background: The lacks of self-efficacy and social support are two neglected issues in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). One of the popular methods to enhance those factors is theater performance art education (TPA), but its evidence in T2DM is lacking. Therefore, this study was aimed to measure the effectiveness of TPA toward social support and self-efficacy in T2DM. Methods: This study used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent pre post-test control group design. The two variables measured were self-efficacy and social support. The subjects of this study were Prolanist member of patients with T2DM in the four primary health care centers in Sleman Yogyakarta Indonesia. Pre-test and post-test measurement were taken and compared to determine the efficacy of the TPA. Results: 102 subjects were used in this study (32 in control and 70 in intervention group) with women and 45-60 years old age group comprised the majority of the subject population. Mann-Whitney test showed that the self-efficacy score increased more pronouncedly in intervention group compared to control group (Δ mean intervention: 3.34±4.74; Δ mean control: -0.75±3.98; p: 0.000). Same result was also observed in social-support variable (Δ mean intervention: 1.63±1.84; Δ Mean control: 0.38±1.84; p: 0.002). Multiple logistic regression revealed that TPA only significantly affected self-sufficiency (Adjusted OR: 0.173; p: 0.001; 95%CI: 0.062 - 0.479) while barely influenced social support. Conclusion: The implementation of theater performing art-based community empowerment as part of social education helps in improving self-efficacy in patients with T2DM. Abstract

Owing to high moisture content, soursop (Annona muricata) fruit has a short shelf-life by turning soft and bruised easily after harvesting. It quickly becomes unacceptable for fresh consumption. This valuable fruit should be preserved for a long shelf life. However, the lack of improved postharvest technology limits it on domestic and foreign markets. This research evaluated the effectiveness of 1-methylcyclopropene in different concentration (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 ppm) to shelf-life of soursop fruits during 12 days at ambient temperature storage. The use of this ethylene inhibitor at 150 ppm improved the shelf-life and quality of soursop fruit, including lower weight loss, maintain firmness, retent ascorbic acid and soluble solid during preservation Keywords: Soursop, 1-methylcyclopropene, Preservation, Firmness, Weight loss, Soluble solid, Ascorbic acid, Post-harvest.
