Abstract

The wet chemical co- precipitation technique has been used to prepare magnesium doped zinc sulfide nanocrystal powder at room temperature for future contribution in technological and biological applications. The crystal structural, morphology, optical properties, and the emission spectrum of the powder were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), UV-VIS spectrophotometer, and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The analysis of XRD diffraction indicated that the powder had cubic zincblende structure and the calculated value of crystallite size was (15.9 nm) for the preferential orientation diffraction peak (111). The calculated energy gap of the Mg:ZnS nanoparticles was ( 3.87 eV) from absorbance spectrum. The PL spectrum of the nanoparticle confirmed two peaks located on (367 nm) and (485 nm).

Abstract

Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is the most common hereditary bleeding disorder in humans, with an estimated prevalence ranging upward to 1% of the general population. Males and females are both approximately equally affected. VWD arises from a deficiency or dysfunction of von Willebrand factor (VWF). The aim of this study was to detection of mutations of VWF gene in 15 unrelated patients. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and direct sequencing was performed for two functionally regions of the gene (exon 18 and exon 19). This study showed many mutations occurred in males and females patients that is impact  for the change  arrangement the amino acid  causing change VWF protein (as a carrier and protection of F8 protein responsibility for hemophilia A)function, and leading to Von willebrand disease. This study showed several mutations within the VWF gene in fifteen Iraqi patients by the molecular analysis revealed 35 point mutations in this study. These mutations included 15 missense variant and 9 silent mutations, while the rest were intrinsic mutations .These mutations may be related with   Von willebrand disease. Keywords: Von willebrand, Mutation, PCR.

Abstract

Resistance of bacteria to some antibiotics increased tremendously therefore demanding for solutions and new medicine becomes essential as this problem related to human health. For this purpose, using of nanoparticles increased rapidly during the last years. In this study, the effect of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and silver nitrate (AgNO3) on bacteria had been evaluated and compared.  Commercial purchased silver nanoparticles (with the particles size 20nm and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) image) were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles Silver and  silver nitrate were evaluated on some pathogenic bacteria including  samples  including: Streptococcus pyogenes  and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram Positive Bacteria)and Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumonia, Salmonella  typhi, Acine to bacter baumannii  and Vibrio cholerae   (Gram Negative Bacteria). In this research,  antibacterial activity for nanoparticle silver and silver nitrate at different concentrations started from 10 to 150μg ml−1against bacterial isolates was measured by agar diffusion technique and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)/ Minimum bactericidal Concentration (MBC).These pathogens caused different hazardous infections and some of these bacteria are multi-drug resistant, the results exhibited  remarkable antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) compared to moderate effect of silver nitrate (AgNo3) against most tested isolates including serious Gram Negative Bacteria resistant bacteria K.pneumonia , S.  typhi and V. cholerae , the exception was A. baumannii as these bacteria didn’t affected definitely by any concentrations of Ag NPs or AgNo3 in the detection tests  of  MIC and MBC.  Keywords: Silver Nan particles, Silver Nitrate, Pathogenic Bacteria

Abstract

Total or near to Total thyroidectomy with Radio Iodine treatment is current therapy for Thyroid cancer. Post thyroidectomy the patients are on Levothyroxine as a supplement therapy to maintain the Thyroid hormone levels. Levothyroxine has been considered as a narrow therapeutic index drug. In Thyroid cancer patients, radio-iodine ablation procedure causes hypothyroid state which will be further elongated by the administration of sub optimal doses and hyperthyroid symptoms with higher doses. This article would evaluate the pharmacokinetics of levothyroxine and in specific focus in patients with papillary carcinoma followed with thyroidectomy with Radio iodine treatment.Materials and Methods: The references are review from published literature and web based information. Results: Levothyroxine is considered as a narrow therapeutic index drug and hence individualization of the dose in a particular patient is important for optimal therapeutic effect. Conclusion: Review of pharmacokinetics of levothyroxine in various disease condition, coexisting disease and concomitant medication suggested for optimization of the dose of levothyroxine for avoiding the toxic adverse effects due to hypothyroid or hyperthyroid conditions.
