Abstract

This study aims to analyze the competition between pro-Islamist and nationalist militia groups in the control of economic resources and it influences on Libya’s economic growth. The approach used is a qualitative approach. Conflict theory, greed and grievance theory, and economic growth theories are used to analyze Libya's post-revolution political economy. This research shows that the competition between militia groups over economic resources has occurred since the transition period of the Libyan government in 2011 and continues until this writing. Economic resources contested include oil, trade centers, banks, trade routes in country borders, airports, and important positions in government. Conflicting militia groups often use violence to obtain economic and political benefits. This is what creates the complexity of the Libyan political conflict. This research concludes that  the political conflicts that are preoccupied with the competition of various internal and external actors to fight over economic resources and power, have a negative influence on economic growth and social life of the Libyan people.

Abstract

Money politics cannot be separated from the constellation of elections in Indonesia. There is no election without money politics in it. To get votes, all parties are competing to use all means, be it the dawn attack of money politics before the election. It is impossible for a candidate to run for office not to use a penny even because it is no longer a public secret that without having a lot of money, he cannot escape running for government representatives. Gellner & Waterbury, Patrons, and Clients in the Mediterranean Societies said money politics exists in a society that is patron-client when groups in power or certain privileges give money or other gifts in return for the loyalty of their followers (clients). This of course applies to elections in Indonesia, not only reciprocation for voting but guaranteeing the votes of citizens because the public usually remembers the giving of candidates as the time approaches the election. For this reason, there have been many dawning attacks on money politics in Indonesia. This article will describe real-world examples of money politics during the 2019 election and cases of money politics that occurred in society. The impact of money politics on democracy and future recommendations for the government.

Abstract

Mazhab was not the fundamental and central discourse in Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) communities. It is in the opposite position where mazhab discourses have been isolated and marginalized within the TJ broader dawah material context. TJ figures accused and claimed mazhab as the primary source of conflict and division that hindered progression and global interaction among Muslim groups. Thus, mazhab was fluid and negotiable in JT dawah and ritual activities, particularly when the members of TJ in a dawah camp program (khuruj). As a result, TJ has a good position and image in the community and less rejection and resistance by other communities than Ikhwanul Muslimin or Hizbut Tahrir. However, the choice of ignoring mazhab discourses emerges a social stigma and judgment to Tabligi as the group that does not fully understand Islam. The article aims to understand the phenomena of practicing mazhab in the TJ community in Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The article also investigates the mazhab negotiation between TJ members and local people where the dawah occurs in a specific context. The article also looks at changes in religious educational program developed by TJ members that tend to be informal religious education. The majority of informal religious education surrounding JT communities is tahfiz school (memorizing the Quran). TJ members are more interested in sending their children to tahfiz school than informal school and later become Islamic priests (kyai). They are not interested to see their children take the university level. Besides, the article also concerns exploring another role of TJ in a socio-political context where they become facilitators to overcome the Pattani Muslim conflict with the Thai government.

Abstract

The attention of researchers to explore the brilliant thoughts of Ibn Khaldun is so great. Khaldun is a multidisciplinary scientist. He has many statuses. However, several studies of Khaldun's thought generally focus on two main disciplines, namely sociology and politics. His prolegomena, entitled muqaddimah, record very clearly the impressions of Khaldun's thoughts in the fields of sociology and politics. Generally, the study of Khaldun's thought only takes one corner of the scientific discipline, it is sociology or politics. In fact, Khaldun's various political ideas are actually a combination of sociology and politics at the same time. The study in this paper takes a different point of view by presenting the dual ideas of Khaldun's sociology and politics. This literature study found that Ibn Khaldun was one of the leading thinker of the political sociology. His idea of political sociology is reflected in Khaldun's conception of Ashabiyah and nomadic society.
