Abstract

The villages of Majan, Winong, and Tawangsari were designated as perdikan villages in the 18th century AD, granting full power to the perdikan village leader to govern the administration and social culture of the perdikan community. However, in 1979, their fiefdom status was abolished and their privileges were revoked. This research aims to explore the early history of these perdikan villages, the dynamics of the fief community, and the impact of the abolition of their fiefdom status. Historical research methods including heuristics, source verification, interpretation, and historiography were employed. The fief villages of Majan, Winong, and Tawangsari were identified by their special privileges and power to regulate village government, marriage, land tenure rights, and religious practices. The abolition of their fiefdom status resulted in changes to the village government, marriage, and land tenure rights. This research provides insight into the dynamics of perdikan villages and their identity, as well as the impact of changes to their status and privileges.

Abstract

Afghanistan is a Muslim country with a long history of conflict. Politics in Afghanistan has always been characterized by repeated coups against the ruling leaders. Since 1994, a group of Afghan religious students formed an extremist group called the Taliban. This group even became the sole ruler of the country after the coup against Ashraf Gani in 2021. This paper aims to examine the embryo of the conflict that led to the emergence of the strong Taliban group in Afghanistan. The research method used in this study is a historical method with four steps: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that Afghanistan has never stopped fighting. In the current context, the Taliban has become an authoritarian ruler, and political and security conditions in Afghanistan are far from conducive. Women have been the group most affected by policies that restrict their rights.

Abstract

The expansion of Islamic territories in the past led to the placement of new political and religious elites in conquered areas, resulting in the development of cosmopolitan communities between Arabs and non-Arabs. As part of this expansion, the Islamic government constructed cities in new areas that were originally military defense camps, including Basra and Kufah in Iraq, Fustat in Egypt, and Qairawan in North Africa. This research seeks to explain how these empty lands could transform into thriving Islamic cities. Using the historical method, which includes heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography, the researcher found that the military settlements provided a strong foundation for the establishment of Islamic rule in new territories. This was supported by the formation of a military elite group that helped build civilization by making government centers the focal point for Islamic intellectual and literary activity.

Abstract

Raden Saleh, a prominent Indonesian artist, has regained attention in recent times with the release of the film "Mencuri Raden Saleh" (Stealing Raden Saleh). One of the film scenes depicts a painting portraying the capture of Prince Diponegoro, which is said to represent resistance against the Dutch colonial rule and nationalism. This raises the need to delve into Raden Saleh's life, the emergence of the painting depicting the capture of Prince Diponegoro, and to understand the historical context and Raden Saleh's position within it. It is essential to provide a clear historical framework to avoid any misconceptions about Raden Saleh and his role. This research utilizes the Historical Method, beginning with the identification of the topic. The heuristic phase involves gathering primary sources such as newspapers, articles, magazines, and online archives like Delpher.nl and the Library University Leiden KITLV. Secondary sources such as books and journals are also employed. The collected sources undergo verification through external criticism to ensure their authenticity and internal criticism to establish the credibility of historical facts. Subsequently, the verified findings are interpreted through analysis and synthesis to construct a historical narrative. Finally, historiography is employed to reconstruct the gathered historical facts.
