Abstract

his study aims to describe community empowerment at the gampong level in disaster mitigation based on local wisdom in Langsa City, emphasizing the novelty of the local gampong context and the integration model between local wisdom and modern disaster mitigation approaches. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted in six gampongs in Langsa City, involving 18 key informants consisting of gampong officials, traditional leaders, and community members. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that gampong communities possess strong social capital through mutual cooperation (gotong royong), customary deliberation, and the ability to interpret natural signs as part of traditional mitigation practices. Community empowerment is implemented through disaster awareness programs and environmental conservation activities; however, their implementation has not been evenly distributed across all gampongs. The main finding reveals that integrating modern disaster training with local wisdom significantly enhances community preparedness, coordination, and collective response during disaster events. The main challenges include limited continuous assistance and the gradual erosion of traditional values among younger generations. Therefore, this study provides practical implications that disaster mitigation policies at the gampong level should focus on strengthening local institutions and internalizing local wisdom into formal disaster management programs to achieve more effective and sustainable disaster mitigation.

Abstract

The proponent of Edu-tourism development is represented by the Pokdarwis (Tourismm Awareness Group). This also applies to the development of the Pagelaran Educational Tourism Village. The problems faced by Pokdarwis in Pagelaran Village include limited knowledge, coordination, and weak institutional structures. This empowerment offers the PRA approach as a model for strengthen Pokdarwis institutions. The implementation method uses several stages, namely problem identification, potential and objectives, solution planning, implementation, and evaluation. The application of PRA in this empowerment has resulted in successful active community involvement, structured management of the Pokdarwis institution, and the independence of Pokdarwis in managing Pagelaran Edu-tourism.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and evaluate the digitalization of 15 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in Lueng Tanoh Tho Village, Woyla District, West Aceh Regency, through registration on Google Maps as part of the Regular Community Service Program (KKN) Batch XXIV of Teuku Umar University, conducted from July 15 to August 19, 2025. A participatory and collaborative approach was employed, in which students acted as facilitators working directly with UMKM owners through four stages: business data collection, technical training on Google Business Profile, registration and location-verification assistance, and post-activity monitoring. Data were collected through UMKM survey forms, activity observation sheets, and a participant evaluation questionnaire, then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results show that all 15 targeted UMKM were successfully registered and verified on Google Maps, and participants demonstrated improved ability to create and manage a Google Business Profile. Several business owners also reported, through informal follow-up interviews, a perceived increase in customer visits after registration, although this was not measured with a structured before-after instrument and should be interpreted as a preliminary indication rather than a verified outcome. The program faced constraints including limited internet connectivity and low initial digital literacy among participants, which were partly addressed through personal mobile hotspots and simplified training modules. This activity indicates that Google Maps registration is a feasible and low-cost entry point for UMKM digitalization in a small rural village, while more rigorous, longer-term evaluation is needed to confirm its economic impact.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) conducted in Tuwi Empeuk Village, East Woyla District, West Aceh Regency, focused on enhancing road safety by implementing delineators as illumination devices at road curves. The objectives of implementing the delineator program at road curves were: 1) To provide warnings against high-speed driving at curves, 2) To prevent accidents from oncoming traffic, 3) To encourage and motivate the community to exercise greater caution while driving, and 4) To increase nighttime visibility to assist drivers in identifying road boundaries despite minimal lighting. This program employed a participatory action approach combined with field observation, in which students, village officials, and local community members jointly conducted site surveys, prepared materials, and carried out the manufacturing and installation of delineators through structured phases. Active community participation fostered a sense of ownership and enhanced collective awareness regarding the importance of traffic safety. Field observation following installation indicated increased community and driver awareness of road conditions and a perceived reduction in accident risk at the curve, although this outcome was not yet measured against quantitative traffic-accident indicators.
