Abstract

The use of pesticides in the cultivation of baby oranges (Citrus sinensis) is intended to control pests and diseases; however, it may leave residues on the fruit that can affect food safety. This study aimed to compare pesticide residue levels in baby oranges marketed in traditional and modern markets in Surabaya City and to assess their safety based on the applicable maximum residue limits (MRLs). The study was conducted in October 2025 using a survey approach and laborator analysis. Orange samples were collected from Keputran Market as a representative of traditional markets and Hokky Fruit Supermarket as a representative of modern markets. Pesticide residue analysis was performed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to detect the active ingredients chlorpyrifos and profenofos. The results showed that chlorpyrifos residues, both methyl and ethyl forms, were not detected in any of the baby orange samples. Profenofos residues were detected in several samples; however, their levels were below the maximum residue limits specified in SNI 7313:2008. Overall, baby oranges marketed in both traditional and modern markets in Surabaya City are considered safe for consumption. Nevertheless, the presence of low levels of pesticide residues indicates the need for prudent pesticide use and continuous monitoring to ensure food safety for consumers.

Abstract

Research this study aims to evaluate the level of consumer preference through a hedonic test of processed bok choy (Brassica rapa L.) juice from hydroponic, conventional, and microgreen cultivation. The parameters tested included taste, color, texture, aroma, and physical appearance. The results of statistical analysis (ANOVA) showed that cultivation techniques significantly affected all parameters except color. The microgreen technique was consistently the most preferred treatment by panelists with the highest average scores for taste (3.45), texture (2.84), aroma (3.36), and physical appearance (3.48). This superiority is thought to be related to the more intense concentration of volatile compounds in young plant tissue, while conventional techniques tended to obtain the lowest scores. The study concluded that in terms of organoleptic quality, bok choy with microgreen cultivation techniques had the best level of panelist acceptance.

Abstract

Air pollution is a major environmental problem in urban areas that affects human health and the environment. One natural way to reduce air pollution is through the use of floral biodiversity. This study aims to identify the level of plant diversity, the ecological role of flora in reducing air pollution, and the supporting and limiting factors in Jambangan Sub-district. The research was conducted in RW 02 and RW 03 using a qualitative descriptive method through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, evenness index, and dominance index. The results show that plant diversity in the study area is high, with index values of 2.95 in RW 02 and 2.93 in RW 03. Flora plays an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, trapping dust particles, and improving the microclimate. Supporting factors include community participation and the availability of green open spaces, while limiting factors include limited land, high building density, and lack of plant maintenance. Improvement efforts can be made through greening programs, environmental education, proper plant selection, and support from local government policies.

Abstract

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a horticultural crop with significant potential for development. The application of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) sprayed on leaves at appropriate intervals and concentrations can be a solution for providing essential nutrients to plants, thereby achieving optimal crop yields. This study aims to evaluate the best combination of application interval and POC concentration in cultivating purple eggplant. The study was designed using a Split-Plot Design. The sub-plots (application intervals) were divided into W1 = every 5 days, W2 = every 10 days, and W3 = every 15 days. The main plots (POC concentrations) were divided into K1 = 4 ml/l, K2 = 6 ml/l, and K3 = 8 ml/l. The results showed that the combination of application intervals and POC concentrations significantly affected the flowering age of the plants. The best combination was found with a 5-day application interval and a POC concentration of 8 ml/l.
