Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of dietary patterns in supporting the physical health and development of adolescents in Indonesia. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with literature study and thematic analysis. The results indicate that the nutritional status of Indonesian adolescents still faces a double burden of malnutrition, encompassing both undernutrition and overnutrition. Unbalanced dietary patterns, low intake of energy, protein, and fat, as well as insufficient fiber consumption, are the main contributing factors. Nutritional knowledge, body image, and family influence especially the role of mothers significantly affect dietary quality. It is concluded that holistic nutritional interventions and continuous education are essential to support optimal adolescent growth and development.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of fast food consumption and its impact on students' health in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with literature study method, this research examines the characteristics of fast food, driving factors for consumption, and resulting health implications. The results indicate that fast food has strong appeal for students due to its practicality, affordable price, and modern image. However, excessive consumption leads to various health problems such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other degenerative diseases. These findings underscore the urgency of nutritional education and structured interventions to establish healthy consumption patterns among students.

Abstract

This literature review discusses the effect of sleep duration on students’ school activities, focusing on learning engagement, concentration, and academic performance. Based on an analysis of 20 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2024, a consistent positive correlation was found between adequate sleep and optimal cognitive function. Learners who consistently obtain more than seven hours of sleep per night tend to demonstrate better academic results, participate more actively in learning activities, and show greater emotional stability compared to sleep-deprived students. Research also indicates that poor sleep habits can lead to fatigue, mood disturbances, and decreased motivation to learn. Therefore, this study asserts that sufficient sleep is essential to support students’ performance at school and recommends the promotion of sleep hygiene education in both school and home environments to encourage adolescents to adopt healthy sleep habits.

Abstract

Children's mental health is crucial for healthy growth and development, both physically and emotionally. One of the most significant influences is the family. This article summarizes various literature and research from the past five years, both domestic and international, that discuss how families shape and maintain children's mental health. From the various sources reviewed, it was found that the way parents raise their children, their communication with their children, their emotional stability, and the relationships between family members significantly influence children's mental health. This article also recommends greater family involvement in prevention and treatment programs for children's mental health issues, particularly in education and social policy.

Abstract

Effective waste management in the school environment is a strategic step in shaping environmental care behaviour from an early age. This study aims to review the practices of organic and inorganic waste management in schools and assess the level of students' awareness of the importance of sustainable waste management. The method used is a qualitative descriptive study with observation techniques, interviews, and the distribution of questionnaires to school staff. However, the implementation is not consistent and is still limited to administrative aspects related to waste management, but the implementation in the field is still not optimal. The level of students' awareness of the importance of waste management is in the medium category, with the main motivation coming from the influence of teachers and school environment programs. This study suggests the need to improve environmental education in a sustainable manner and provide adequate waste management facilities as a form of support for environmentally friendly behaviour among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Al Azhar Medan's flagship high school in strengthening students' digital literacy as an effort to maintain adolescent mental health in the digital era. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the school has a strong commitment to building a culture of digital literacy through the integration of technology into learning, training for teachers, and the formation of a student digital community. Digital literacy is not only understood as technical skills, but also includes ethics, responsibility, and reflective awareness of the impact of social media on psychological well-being. Increased digital literacy has been shown to contribute to reducing levels of stress, anxiety, and social pressure experienced by students. The school implements educational, collaborative, and preventive strategies through programs such as digital well-being seminars, Islamic digital ethics training, and thematic counseling. Challenges faced include limited learning time and the gap in digital skills among students, but these can be overcome through mentoring and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents. This study confirms that strengthening digital literacy plays a crucial role in shaping adolescent character that is resilient, mentally healthy, and responsible in using technology.

Abstract

Stress among junior high school students has become an increasing concern in educational psychology as it affects both mental health and academic performance. This study aims to analyze the factors causing stress and its impact on students’ mental health based on recent literature. A systematic literature review was conducted using 10 relevant articles published between 2019 and 2024. Findings reveal that academic pressure, parenting style, bullying, social media use, and family economic conditions are the main contributors to stress. The consequences include anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, reduced learning motivation, and social problems. Recommended interventions involve school counseling, digital literacy, stress management programs, parental involvement, and positive extracurricular activities. This study highlights the importance of holistic strategies from schools and families to support junior high school students’ mental well-being.

Abstract

Puberty is a complex transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, characterized by significant physical, psychological, and social changes. In adolescent girls, puberty involves the maturation of reproductive organs, breast development, the onset of menstruation (menarche), and changes in body fat distribution. Besides biological changes, emotional shifts such as anxiety, embarrassment, and identity-seeking also occur. This study employs a literature review method using various journals related to puberty to examine the impact of these changes on adolescent adjustment. The findings indicate that a lack of knowledge and family support is associated with increased anxiety, stress, and negative self-concept among adolescent girls. Therefore, reproductive health education and family involvement are essential in helping adolescents adapt to puberty in a healthy manner.

Abstract

Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and common primary brain tumor in adults, characterized by rapid growth, infiltrative behavior, and poor prognosis despite multimodal treatment. Among its most significant complications are vasogenic edema and hydrocephalus, which exacerbate intracranial hypertension and contribute substantially to morbidity and mortality. We report the case of a 59-year-old male who presented with progressive decreased consciousness, severe headaches, right-sided weakness, and visual disturbances. Neuroimaging revealed a left temporoparietal mass with cystic, solid, and necrotic components, accompanied by extensive vasogenic edema, midline shift, and obstructive hydrocephalus. Histopathological examination confirmed glioblastoma, WHO grade IV. The patient was treated with intravenous dexamethasone and acetazolamide, resulting in improved consciousness and partial symptomatic relief. This case illustrates the pathophysiological role of blood–brain barrier disruption in vasogenic edema and cerebrospinal fluid flow obstruction in hydrocephalus. Dexamethasone remains the cornerstone of symptomatic management for edema, while acetazolamide may provide temporary benefit in hydrocephalus, although its long-term efficacy is limited. The coexistence of these complications significantly worsens prognosis, and treatment primarily focuses on symptom control and quality of life. Prompt recognition and appropriate management are essential to stabilize patients, even though overall survival in glioblastoma remains limited.
