Abstract

This research aimed to how altruism in action is done by Wade’s main character through Deadpool 2 movie script by Batson theory (1995). Data from altruism in action is grouped by a chart. The researcher thereafter analyzes aspects of altruism based on aspects of liabilities, motive, and benefit. The researcher uses this aspect of liabilities, motive and benefit in the Deadpool 2 movie script analysis becausethe speech about the three aspects falls into the main character. It can be seen as Wade saved Russell from the fire that the Cable did save him from that act, spared aven the death that he looked upon back then, he was willingto sacrifice himself for the safety of others, taking responsibility for what he was responsible. So he had to be done, and that can benefit others. Data analysis shows the main character in the Deadpool 2 movie script.

Data was collected through reading, identifying, annotating, and organizing. In analyzing the data, the researcher conducted several steps. First, the researcher presented the data in the form of text. Second, the researcher described the text. Third, the researchers interpreted the data by making more elaborated descriptions of the data and its relation with the theories used. Last, the researcher provided conclusion that summarizes the findings. The results of the study showed that there is an imbalance in the main character’s personality, in which her ego cannot mediate the conflicts between her urge (the id) and the moral principle (superego). This imbalance causes the main character to experience neurotic anxieties on the daily. To reduce the anxiety, the main character performs several self-defense mechanisms that are shown in several types namely rationalization, denial, repression, regression, reaction formation, projection, displacement, and sublimation.

Abstract

Everyone has different kinds of emotions. Every emotion that is expressed can have an impact on a person's actions. In other words, everyone in an emotional situation is trying to send a message to others, either by action or by language. The objective of this research is to describe the mental process depicted in Gwendolyn Brooks' poem, the Mother. This research focuses on the mental process, which includes aspects of feeling, wanting, thinking, and seeing. There is a senser, a process, and a phenomenon in mental processes that can be used. This mental process might be interpreted as either flowing from or impinging on a person's consciousness. Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics is used to analyze each line of the Mother poem as data. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. The data for this analysis were gathered by reading, comprehending, previewing, and coding, and then analyzed by presenting, describing, and interpreting the data, as well as concluding the results of the analysis. As a result of the analysis, the researcher found eight data, four data for thinking (cognitive), three data for emotion (affective), and one data for perception. The cognitive process is the most dominant because the poet conveys her thoughts and realizations about the abortion she committed. There were six websites used in this research such as bachelorandmaster.com, aresearchguide.com, shmoop.com, literarydevices.net, poemanalysis.com, and shareyouressays.com, as tools to help the researcher understand each line of the Mother’s poem meaning.
