Abstract

Background: Chemotherapy is often one preferred method of effective therapy in advanced cancer. Oral mucositis (OM) is a common complication in cancer therapy. A Randomized control trials study are performed on outpatients chemotherapy in an acute care teaching hospital in Perth, Western Australia. Patients were randomized to receive each of three interventions in three cycles of chemotherapy namely standard treatment course in accordance with the procedures of the hospital; standard treatment plus the ice without taste; and standard care plus ice with flavors. Objective: To compare the use of ice without taste, flavors ice and standard care, to evaluate the effect on mucositis and to determine the patient's perception of the two forms of oral cryotherapy. Methods: This study is a quantitative research, using quasy experimental pre-test and post-test control group design. Result: Of the 67 respondents revealed that when participants used the standard treatment of care alone, significantly reported that they still got mucositis compared to those who were given cryotherapy either by using ice without taste or variety of flavors. Odds ratio showed three-fold higher for standard care. The second major concern was the reported ice of various flavors and the time required to complete oral cryotherapy intervention. Side effects such as nausea, sensitivity and headache were reported more frequently for flavor ice (n = 11) compared to ice without taste (n = 5) and standard care (n = 1) . Conclusion: Both forms of oral cryotherapy is effective in reducing the severity oral mucositis after chemotherapy and more effective than standard care. Ice with various flavors associated with the highest frequency of side effects. Keywords: chemotherapy, mucositis, oral cryotherapy

Especially in children with critical illness at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at which the state of children to get an indication of central venous catheters (CVC). Objective: To analyze the use of 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG) as a daily bathing treatment to reduce bacteremia in critically ill children in the PICU/NICU. Discussion: The study of the use 2% CHG as a daily bathing treatment for critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit has been carried out. However, only performed in adult patients. Developing research conducted in children, this study recommends the use of 2% CHG as a daily bathing treatment can be used in selected patients in the NICU when there is an effort by other measures, but still failed to reduce the incidence of CLABSI. Conclusions: Implementation of recommendations will involve approval by the appropriate organizational structure in charge of monitoring the evolution of the practice. Need staff whom known the instructions on the use of CHG to develop procedures daily bathing with 2% CHG in intensive care and decrease the incidence of bacteremia,.Keywords: Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Daily Bathing, Bacteremia in children, PICU/NICU.

Dharmagita is a spiritual song that is one of the sensory stimulation techniques that are good for the elderly. Singing a song may stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin that can trigger somebody’s thinking and learning. Dharmagita Award is intended to provide sensory stimuli in the elderly so that they can improve the cognitive function of the elderly. This study aimed to determine the effect of Dharmagita on the cognitive function of the elderly. This study was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 12 elderly people selected by purposive sampling. The data collection was done by using the MMSE questionnaire. The results showed the average scores of the cognitive function before and after Dharmagita, which were 23.92 and 25 respectively. Based on the statistical results using a paired t-test, there were significant differences in cognitive function with the significance level p = 0.001 meaning that there was Dharmagita influence on the cognitive function of the elderly. Therefore, it is recommended to the elderly, caregivers and policy makers to use Dharmagita in improving the cognitive function of the elderly. Keywords: Cognitive function, Dharmagita, Mini Mental Status Examination

Slow deep breathing is non pharmacology therapy that can influence baroreflex and decrease the blood pressure. This research aimed to know the influence of slow deep breathing on blood pressure of hypertension patient in Puskesmas I Denpasar Timur. This research was pre experimental quantitative study. Design of this study was using one group pre test post test design with the intervention was slow deep breathing during 21 days, twice a day. The amount of sample in this study was 28 patients, in 35-80 years old which is chosen by simple random sampling technique. This research was conducted from  March 28th  until April 25th 2016. Univariate test was used to analyze respondent’s characteristics and bivariate test was used to analyze the difference of systolic and diastolic blood pressure to pre test and post test. The Bivariate test was using Wilcoxon because the data wasn’t  normal distributed. The result of bivariate test was significant (p-value =0,000), with level of confidence 5% so H0 was rejected. The conclusion of this study: there was influence of slow deep breathing in decrease the blood pressure of hypertension patients in Puskesmas I Denpasar Timur. Based on the result of this study, It is suggested to use slow deep breathing as non pharmacology therapy for hypertension. Key Word: Blood Pressure, Hypertension, Slow Deep Breathing

Abstract

Diabetic mellitus is a crhonic disease and have a complications. One of the complication is diabetic peripheral neuropathy. 60-70% patient with diabetic mellitus also has diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Factors that contribute of diabetic peripheral neuropathy incident are length of diabetes, ages, and poor of glucose control. This study aims to knew correlate beetwen length of diabetes with diabetic peripheral neuropathy incident.Methodology: This study used cross sectional design with 79 respondents and recruited by simple random sampling methode. Data were collected from patients with diabetic mellitus. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy was measured by diabetic neuropathy symptom (DNS) . Chi square test analysis showed no significant correlate beetwen age and length of diabetes with diabetic peripheral neuropathy incident (p value > 0.05). It can be inferred that age and length of diabetes aren’t risk factor that contributed diabetic peripheral neuropathy incident. Therefore, need more reseacrh to correlate beetwen diabetic peripheral neuropathy incident with the other factors.
