Abstract

This study is a development research that produces a product in the form of mathematics learning media using Adobe Flash CS6, focusing on social arithmetic material for Grade VII. The researchers employed the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The instruments used included: (1) a media expert evaluation questionnaire, (2) a material expert evaluation questionnaire, and (3) a student response questionnaire. The trial subjects consisted of 23 Grade VII students from Muhammadiyah 57 Medan Junior High School. The results of the study are as follows: (1) the development of mathematics learning media using Adobe Flash CS6 for social arithmetic material, and (2) the quality of the learning media based on validity aspects. From the material experts, the validation scores were 4.3 and 4.8, with an average of 4.5, categorized as “Very Good.” The average validation score from media experts was 4.7, also categorized as “Very Good.” Meanwhile, the student response score was 3.9, likewise in the “Very Good” category.   Based on these findings, the mathematics learning media developed using Adobe Flash CS6 on social arithmetic material is highly suitable for use as a reference teaching resource in the learning process.    Keywords: Learning Media Development, Social Arithmetic, Adobe Flash

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) learning style model in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Asuhan Jaya Medan during the 2023/2024 academic year. A quantitative experimental research design was employed, involving 50 eighth-grade students divided into two groups: the experimental group (n = 25), which was taught using the VAK model, and the control group (n = 25), which received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a vocabulary test consisting of 20 items, including matching, gap-filling, and arranging tasks. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, including normality, homogeneity, and t-tests. The findings revealed that the experimental group’s post-test mean score (M = 84.24) was significantly higher than its pre-test mean (M = 32.52), and higher than the control group’s post-test mean (M = 78.68). An independent sample t-test confirmed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). These results suggest that the VAK model is more effective than conventional methods in enhancing vocabulary mastery. This study highlights the importance of incorporating multisensory approaches in English language teaching to support diverse learning preferences. Keywords: Visual Auditory Kinesthetic, Learning Style Model, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

The discovery learning model is a learning strategy that encourages students to conduct observations, experiments, and scientific actions to achieve a deeper understanding. In this model, students are active in finding and understanding the concepts taught, as well as solving problems by collecting and processing data. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of HOTS-based discovery learning model on students' critical thinking skills on the material of quadrilaterals and triangles. The population in this study were grade IX students at MTs Az-Zahroh. The sample in this study were 23 students of grade IX Ibnu Khaldun (as the experimental class) and 23 students of IX Ibnu Sina (as the control class). The research method used in this study was a quasi-experimental one. The research instrument used a question validation sheet and an essay-shaped test (description) on the material of quadrilaterals and triangles. The data analysis technique used was the normality test. The research hypothesis test used the t-test, namely the independent sample t-test and the paired sample t-test with the help of the SPSS 25 application. The results of the independent sample t-test obtained a Sig. value. (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, which means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, there is a difference in the test results of students' critical thinking abilities using the HOTS-based discovery learning model and those using the conventional teacher-centered learning model. In the paired sample t-test, Sig. (2-tailed) pair 1 = 0.000 and pair 2 = 0.026, meaning the significance value is < 0.05, thus proving that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, it is clear that there is a difference in the average pretest-posttest between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, it can be concluded that the HOTS-based discovery learning model has an effect on students' critical thinking abilities, especially regarding quadrilaterals and triangles. Keywords: Influence, HOTS-Based Discovery Learning Model, Student Critical Thinking, Mathematics Learning

Abstract

The Effect of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) Approach on Solid Geometry Material to Improve Students' Conceptual Understanding and Learning Achievement. Thesis. Mathematics Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra. The purpose of this study is to determine the Effect of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) Approach on Solid Geometry Material to Improve Students' Conceptual Understanding and Learning Achievement. The population in this study is all grade X students of SMK TRITELCH INFORMATIKA MELDAN in the 2023/2024 academic year consisting of one class. The sample of this research is class X with a total of 25 people from various classes of ELKSPERRIMELn with the Realistic Mathematics ELducation (RMEL) approach. This research took place from August 22, 2024 – September 5, 2024. Data collection in this research uses TEST techniques. The first TEST uses pretest and the second uses posttest. The results of the pretest scores of all students are <75 (did not pass) and the results of the posttest of all students are >75 (passed). From the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Realistic Mathelmatics ELducation (RMEL) attachment on the understanding of the concept and learning achievement of mathematics students of grade X SMK TRITELCH INFORMATIKA MELDAN. Keywords: Realistic Mathelmatics ELducation (RMEL) attachment, on the understanding of the concept and learning achievement of students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the collaborative learning model on student problem-solving. Students were given a test to assess their mathematical problem-solving abilities, as well as their responses and activities related to the learning process. The researcher then described these results in data analysis. The method used was a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-test, post-test design. This research was conducted at the SPF Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of SMP NEGERI 2 IPU BANYAK BARAT with 25 eighth-grade students. The results of the hypothesis test showed a calculated t-value of 16.4037, with a t-table value at the significance level of 0.5, which is 2.060. This means that the calculated t-value is greater than the t-table value, or 16.4037 > 2060. Therefore, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that the collaborative learning model has a significant effect on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students at UPTD SPF SMP NEGERI 2 IPU BANYAK BARAT.
