Abstract

The problem of early breastfeeding has a negative impact on the baby’s life. The decrease in breast milk production in the first day after giving birth can be caused by a lack of stimulation of the hormones prolactin and oxytocin which play a very important role in the smooth production of breast milk. Efforts to stimulate the hormones prolactin and oxytocin in the mother after giving birth other than expressing breast milk can be done by doing breast care or massage. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of oxytocin massage on breast milk production in Dr. M. Haulussy Hospital and Prof. J. A. Latumeten Hospital Level II Ambon. This research is expected to increase understanding and community participation in providing oxytocin massage to postpartum mothers and become input for other hospitals in providing oxytocin massage. The type of research used is a quasi experimental design. The sample was the first day postpartum women who were treated at Dr. M. Haulussy Hospital Ambon and Level II Hospital Prof. J.A. Latumeten Ambon on 29 September – 30 November 2018. Processing and analysis using the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the production of breast milk in postpartum mothers after being given oxytocin massage intervention all (100%) had good breast milk production and the results of statistical tests using the Wilcoxon test obtained a P-value = 0.000 (p-value <0.05), meaning that there was an effect of oxytocin massage. on the milk production of postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Hyperbilirubinemia is common condition in newborns which refers to yellow color of skin and sclera on the eyes due to much bilirubin in the blood, where jaundice is one of most common emergencies in newborns. This study aims to determine the relationship between ABO Incompatibility, Frequency of Breastfeeding and Information Sources for Post Partum Mothers on the Incidence of Hyperbilirubinemia. Quantitative research design using descriptive analytic method with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all post partum mothers who had babies with hyperbilirubinemia at Zahirah Jagakarsa General Hospital, South Jakarta. The sample of this study used the Total Sampling technique. The research data showed that there was a relationship between ABO incompatibility with the incidence of hyperbilirubinemia where the p value = 0.003 with OR value of 4.0, there was a relationship between the frequency of breastfeeding and the incidence of hyperbilirubinemia where p value = 0.033 with OR of 2.3, there was a relationship between Source Information on Post Partum Mother with Hyperbilirubin Incidence where p value = 0.045 with OR 2.1. Therefore, the hospital also advised to improve the quality of service through socialization about hyperbilirubin, so that mothers who have the potential to have babies with hyperbilirubinemia can obtain accurate information and can reduce anxiety and risk of hyperbilirubinemia their babies.

Abstract

At the end stage of pregnancy, a certain amount of anxiety is considered a normal thing experienced by a woman in preparation for the upcoming birth. In some women, this feeling develops into fear of childbirth which might have negative consequences on both the mother and the baby. This case study describes the anxiety experienced by Mrs. G, a 27-years-old primigravida, which caused obstacles in the labor process. The anxiety arose because Mrs. G had no felt any signs of labor until a week after the due date. Counseling and personal approaches are carried out to deal with anxiety, as well as the use of hot herbal compress for relaxation. Meanwhile, uterine contraction was induced naturally by doing oxytocin massage and acupressure on the BL 67 point. Midwifery care provided in this case could reduce anxiety and stimulate uterine contractions to initiate the labor process. Comprehensive and continuous support and assistance from health workers is needed to obtain optimal midwifery care outcomes.

Abstract

The increase of hormone HcG, progesterone, and estrogen in pregnancy period causes complaints of nausea called emesis gravidaruam. The case study results showed that 3 out of 10 pregnant women complain of nausea. If nausea occurs continuously until lose energy to carry out activities, it is possible that the pregnant woman has hyperemesis gravidarum. Appropriate treatment in reducing emesis gravidarum can be done non-pharmacologically by providing acupressure therapy which is carried out at the Pc 6, St 36, Lv 14, Ren 17 and Bl 21 meridians as well as counseling. Using the case study method by approaching midwifery care. The research subjects were 2 primigravida pregnant women with gestational age 6-12 weeks, nausea without interfering with activities, nausea, decreased appetite and weight loss <5% of previous body weight. This study showed that in patient 1 after 7 days of midwifery care there was a decrease in the frequency of nausea by giving acupressure, counseling and giving crackers or biscuits and an increase in appetite so that the body weight increased by 1 kg, this was supported by the number of snacks consumed. Patient 2 after 2 days of midwifery care showed that acupressure and counseling could reduce the frequency of nausea. Giving acupressure therapy can be carried out in midwifery care in first trimester pregnant women with emesis gravidarum.

Abstract

Perineal suturing due to spontaneous obstetric tears or episiotomy is the most common operative procedure experienced by women. More than 90% of primiparas experience trauma to the labia, vagina or perineum during vaginal delivery. Perineal wound healing duration is influenced by nutritional factors. This case study describes the wound healing process in two primiparas who had second-degree perineal tears. Both of those primiparas have the same socio-economic characteristics. One primipara was given additional nutrition intake of 140 grams egg white per day, while the other primipara was given standard care of education related to perineal wound care and nutritional needs during puerperium. Perineal wound observation was performed using REEDA scale, while daily intake data were collected using a food recall form. Primipara who consumed egg white every day had an average protein intake of 89 grams and her perineal wound recovered in 6 days. Meanwhile, primipara who only received standard care had an average protein intake of 67 grams and her perineal wound recovered in 8 days. Perineal wound healing was faster in primipara who received additional protein intake from egg white consumption. So that, education related to nutritional needs during puerperium is important to inform the mother and family.

Abstract

A mother is the primary caregiver for her baby. However, sometimes mothers feel less confident in caring for their babies. They need to be assisted with education about baby care to increase their confidence and be more skilled in caring for their babies. This study aims to determine the effect of health education using leaflet and phantom on the skills of mothers to care for babies. The method used is a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design approach. The research was conducted in the postpartum room at RSUD dr. M. Haulussy with samples of primiparous mothers consisting of 30 intervention groups and 30 control groups determined by purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through questionnaires and checklists and analyzed using the Wilcoxon, Man Whitney and Chi square tests. The results showed a change in the improvement of maternal skills after health education as much as 80% of mothers in the intervention group, while in the control group it was 50%. Health education during the taking hold period by using media/tools such as leaflets and phantoms was proven to have an effect on the mother's skills in caring for the baby.
