Abstract

Research on expressive speech acts in novels is an important study to learn and understand. This research intends to discuss the types and functions of expressive speech in the novel Ranah 3 Warna by Ahmad Fuadi. The study of this novel is a descriptive method of qualitative research. The data of this research is in the form of characters' speech in the novel which relies on expressive speech acts. Data was collected using documentation techniques with the assistance of corpus linguistik technology, namely the korpus nusantara. The data was analyzed using computational linguistics technique through the stages of identification, classification, interpretation, and conclusion. This research found: (1) types of expressive speech acts: congratulating and thanking, expressing pleasure and anger, apologizing, praising, criticizing, insinuating, complaining, and insulting, (2) functions of expressive speech acts: convivial, collaborative, conflictive, and competitive functions.

Abstract

This research is conducted to document the structure, categories, and social functions of Minangkabau proverbs at Nagari Sianok VI Suku Agam Regency. The aim of this research is to describe structure, categories, and social functions of Minangkabau proverbs at Nagari Sianok VI Suku Agam Regency. This research is a qualitative using a descriptive methods. The data were conducted by doing interview using recording sheers, voice recording device, and interview guideline. The results of this research is revealing 42 Minangkabau proverbs at Nagari Sianok VI Suku Agam Regency which have: physical structures (diction, imagery, figure of speech, typography, and concrete words); internal structures (themes, feelings, tones, and messages); categories (animals, plants, part of body, human, and nature); and social functions (educational tools, enforces and supervisors of norms, instruments for traditions and cultural institutions, and projection systems). This research concludes that Minangkabau proverbs have an influence on customs and normative values at Nagari Sianok VI Suku Agam Regency.

Abstract

The research entitled "Use of Minangkabau language conjunctions in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah by Ermanto Tolantang: Study using the Kortara Application" has two objectives. First, to describe the categorization of Minangkabau language conjunctions based on their position in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah by Ermanto Tolantang. Second, to describe the categorization of Minangkabau language conjunctions based on the task of their use in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah by Ermanto Tolantang. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data used in this research are sentences that describe the use of Minangkabau language conjunctions based on the categorization contained in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah by Ermanto Tolantang. The data source used in this research is the corpus of the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah by Ermanto Tolantang. The data collected in this research was analyzed using the Kortara application. The data collected in this research is then analyzed using the following steps: (1) downloading the data obtained from the target corpus in the Kortara application into an Excel file, (2) identifying the data according to the research objectives, (3) classifying the data that has been collected identified in accordance with the research objectives, (4) formulating the results of the research findings. From the results of the research above, it can be concluded that the use of Minangkabau language conjunctions based on their position in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah contains 61 data. The data is classified based on its type, namely intrasentential conjunctions and extrasentential conjunctions. The use of Minangkabau language conjunctions based on the task of using them in the novel Rindu Banda Sapuluah contains 303 data.

Abstract

This research examines the use of profanity in Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube podcasts in Indonesia. The study aims to analyze the structure, types, and purposes of cuss words used. Employing a qualitative approach with descriptive methodology, data was collected through observation and recording of words, phrases, and clauses containing profanity. The analysis revealed 95 instances of cuss words, with word form being the most common structure (77 instances). Five categories were identified: conditional, animal-related, object-related, body part-related, and profession-related, with conditional being the most frequent (46 instances). Four functions of cuss word usage were observed: conformity to group norms, insults, expressions of shock or threats, and articulation of intense emotions, with the latter being most prominent (33 instances). Cuss words in these podcasts primarily take the form of single words and serve to describe negative qualities or express emotions, particularly surprise. Notably, they are used for both negative and positive purposes, including humor, to enhance entertainment value in Corbuzier's infotainment-focused podcasts.

Abstract

This study aims to explain two main points of discussion, namely (1) the form and pattern of formation of Indonesian acronym variations in teen slang on Tiktok social media and (2) the meaning of Indonesian acronym variations in teen slang on Tiktok social media. This type of research uses qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data in this study were obtained from the posts of the Tiktok accounts that have been determined, namely the @Lyodra Ginting, @Fujiian and @Nabila Taqiyyah accounts, which were taken from the captions and comment columns of posts throughout 2023 (January-December 2023). The method used in data collection is descriptive method, which is research conducted without numbers but obtained in the form of description data in the form of vocabulary, but the data is first taken by copying and pasting the data. The result of the research shows that (1) there are 85 data of forms and patterns of formation and their meanings included in Kridalaksana's theory, and (2) there are 9 data of the addition of new forms and patterns of formation in acronym variations in teen slang.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the values and types of multiculturalism contained in the novel Ranah 3 Warna created by Ahmad Fuadi, and the influence of multiculturalism on the community groups depicted in the novel Ranah 3 Warna. This research uses the theory of literary sociology and the descriptive method. The data source for this research is the novel Ranah 3 Warna. The steps in collecting data include reading and understanding the contents of the novel, conducting literature studies related to the research problem, identifying the main and additional characters, and inventorying data related to multiculturalism in the novel. The validation technique used is the triangulation technique. The data analysis techniques involve identifying and classifying data based on the speech or actions of the characters, analyzing and interpreting the data, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research include four multicultural values - tolerance, democratic, religious, and cultural - and five types of multiculturalism - isolationist, accommodative, autonomous, critical or interactive, and cosmopolitan. The influence of multiculturalism on community groups is divided into positive and negative influence.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the form of family conflict, describe the causes of family conflict, and describe the impact of family conflict in the novel Lebih Senyap dari Bisikan by Andina Dwifatma. The data source of this research is the novel Lebih Senyap dari Bisikan by Andina Dwifatma. This type of research is literary research and the method used in this research is descriptive method. The results of this study are classified as follows (1) family conflict forms are found, namely husband and wife conflict and child conflict with parents, (2) family conflict causes are found from personality immaturity; the presence of incompatible personality traits; mental abnormalities; finance or economy; household chores; childcare; and interaction within the family, (3) and the impact of family conflict is found, namely mental health; physical health; and family health.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure and function of the treatment mantra of the Nagari Malai V Suku community, Batang Gasan District, Padang Pariaman Regency. This research is categorized as qualitative using descriptive method. The research uses data in the form of texts of community treatment mantras in Nagari Malai V Suku, Batang Gasan District, Padang Pariaman Regency. The instrument of this research is the researcher himself. Data were collected through three stages, namely: (1) literature review, (2) observation and (3) interviews with informants. Data validation was carried out using triangulation techniques. After the data were collected, the data were analyzed with five stages: transcription, transiteration, classification or data analysis, drawing conclusions, and reporting. The results of the research on the structure of the treatment mantra found three parts, namely: opening, content, and closing. The functions of the treatment mantra are divided into five, namely: (a) a system for projection, (b) institutions in cultural institutions, (c) a means to educate, (d) a tool to enforce norms, and (e) a means of treatment. There are three structures in the research, namely the opening, content, and closing structures.

Abstract

The background of this research aims to describe the type of expressive submission in the novel Two Blue Lines of Lucia Priandarini's work. This type of research is qualitative using descriptive methods. The source of data used in this research is the novel Two Blue Lines. This research data is the dialogue-dialogue of the characters found in the novel two blue lines by Lucia Priandarini. Data collected by recording method. The implementation is carried out in several steps as follows: (1) classify the data according to the type of expressive follow-up in the novel Two Blue Lines by Lucia Priandarini (2) analyze the data that has been classified then interpret the data in accordance with the theory used (3) formulate conclusions based on the results of research and interpretation. Based on data analysis, eleven types of expressive behavior were identified: critical, angry, surprised, apologizing, praising, complaining, accusing, feeling happy, expressing gratitude, happiness or pleasure, and feeling ashamed. The most dominant expressive act of exaltation used in the novel Two Blue Lines is expressive expression of criticism and anger.

Abstract

Language is a tool for communicating with others to convey one’s thoughts and feelings to the interlocutor. The communication process occurs not only in real life but also in the virtual world. The use of social media often involves distinctive styles or methods of conveying messages or information. Therefore, this study aims to (1) describe the types of sarcastic language and (2) describe the functions of sarcasm used by netizens in the comment section of the YouTube account @thekufaku on the content “Cuma Kamu.” This research is qualitative in nature, using a descriptive method. The data consists of sentences written by netizens in the comment section of the YouTube account @thekufaku on the content “Cuma Kamu.” The data collection techniques used are observation, reading, and note-taking. The steps of data analysis in this study are: (1) identifying the collected data, (2) classifying the data based on the research objectives using a format, (3) analyzing the classified data, and (4) formulating conclusions from the analysis results. The findings of this study are as follows. First, 108 instances of sarcastic language were found in the comment section of the YouTube account @thekufaku on the content “Cuma Kamu,” consisting of: (1) 12 instances of sarcasm, (2) 17 instances of cynicism, (3) 18 instances of irony, (4) 49 instances of satire, and (5) 12 instances of innuendo. Second, the functions of sarcasm identified in this study include: (1) conveying specific intentions (42 instances), (2) criticizing (15 instances), (3) persuading/influencing (40 instances), and (4) advising (11 instances). Thus, the sarcastic language used by netizens in the comment section of the YouTube account @thekufaku on the content “Cuma Kamu” predominantly conveys sarcasm for specific purposes, mainly in the form of jokes mocking human weaknesses or mistakes.
