Abstract

This study aims to find and describe the types and processes of forming abbreviations contained in the headlines of the Singgalang newspaper for the period July-December 2023. This study is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive method. The data for this study were randomly selected that met the requirements as abbreviations in the uploads from June 2023 to December 2023. The source of this research data is from the uploads of the Singgalang newspaper on the website www. Harian Singgalang.co.id. The methods and techniques for collecting data in this study are to carry out several stages, first, a literature study is used to obtain references to support the research. Second, data search or observation on the uploads of the Harian Singgalang newspaper. Third, collect all data in table form. The data validation technique for this study is the triangulation technique. Based on the research data found, the results of this study are as follows. First, the data obtained based on the research conducted in the headlines of the Singgalang daily newspaper contains data in the form of types of abbreviations and the process of forming abbreviations. In total, there are 95 data in the Singgalang newspaper which are abbreviations. Based on the type, the abbreviations consist of 59 abbreviation data in the form of abbreviations, 7 abbreviation data in the form of excerpts, 8 abbreviation data in the form of acronyms, 17 abbreviation data in the form of contractions, and 4 data in the form of letter symbols. Furthermore, the process of forming the abbreviations found in the headlines of the Singgalang newspaper for the period July-December 2023 is 95 data. with details, 61 data in the form of letter preservation, 8 data in the form of word preservation, 8 data in the form of letter and number preservation, 14 data in the form of letter and syllable preservation, and 2 data in the form of syllable and word preservation.

Abstract

There are three main points of discussion related to social conflict that become the purpose of thisresearch, namely the form, cause, and impact studied in the novel Rasa by Tere Liye. The theoreticalfoundation of this research is literary sociology. This research is categorized as literary research. Todiscuss the subject matter, the researcher uses a descriptive method. The data used as a discussion is aset of language in novel Rasa that has an indication of the research problem. After analyzing, thefollowing results were obtained: (1) the forms of conflict in Novel Rasa include interpersonal disputesand group disputes; (2) the causal factors are due to differences: perception between individuals, socialclass, and interests. The last cause is the occurrence of social change; (3) the impact found in the formof group unity is destroyed then personality changes and social values and norms are degraded.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the meaning of the poem "Jauh" in the poetry collection "Pants" by Joko Pinurbo in 1996 using a semiotic approach developed by Riffaterre. This approach was chosen because it can explore the meaning of the diction used by the poet. To describe the data, a qualitative descriptive method was applied. The data source was taken from the poem "Jauh" by Joko Pinurbo, while the supporting data was taken from various literature related to Riffaterre's semiotic theory and Indonesian poetry. The analysis process begins with heuristic reading to understand the denotative meaning, followed by hermeneutic reading to find the second (connotative) meaning. In conclusion, the poem "Far" describes someone who is thinking about his death. The symbols used in this poem refer to the concepts of death and rebirth, as well as the relationship between individuals and the world around them. This research will add to the treasures of developing literary studies which focus on poetry analysis using a semiotic approach

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the types, strategies, and functions of speech acts in interviews conducted with public figures who are currently in the spotlight. This research is descriptive in nature, employing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data consists of utterances from three prominent figures who are currently the focus of public attention. The source of the data is interview videos from the "Mata Najwa" talk show. The methods and techniques used for data collection include the observation method with the nonparticipatory observation technique. Data validation was conducted using triangulation techniques. The findings of this study are as follows. First, five types of speech acts were identified: (1) assertive speech acts, (2) directive speech acts, (3) expressive speech acts, (4) commissive speech acts, and (5) declarative speech acts. The most dominant types of speech acts used were assertive and directive speech acts, indicating that the speakers, being the interviewees, provided many responses and explanations. Second, four speaking strategies were identified: (1) speaking directly without preamble, (2) speaking directly with positive politeness strategies, (3) speaking directly with negative politeness strategies, and (4) speaking ambiguously. The most dominant speaking strategies used were speaking directly without preamble and speaking directly with positive politeness strategies, indicating that the speakers aimed to communicate politely and respectfully with their interlocutors. Third, four functions of speech acts were identified: (1) competitive, (2) convivial, (3) collaborative, and (4) conflictive. The most dominant speech act functions used were collaborative and convivial, indicating that the speakers aimed to communicate optimistically while still considering social goals

Abstract

Portrait of the lifestyle of urban teenagers which is a form of life in explaining phenomena that occur in urban society. Urban society itself has different characteristics from rural society which can be seen from the way of thinking and the surrounding environment. One of the novels that can be seen is a portrait of urban teenagers entitled 12 Stories of Glen Anggara by Luluk HF. The life of urban teenagers is explained through the characters' behavior with their environment, such as towards friends and family, which influences their lifestyle. This research is included in qualitative research which uses descriptive methods. This research aims to describe: (1) a portrait of the lifestyle of urban teenagers regarding the prestige of recreation in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (2) a portrait of urban teenagers about the instant lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (3) portrait of an urban teenager about an individualistic lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (4) portrait of an urban teenager about a virtual lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF. The data collection technique for this research involves reading and understanding from the beginning to the end of the novel first, then marking the parts that are research points in terms of lifestyle portraits, determining the main characters in the novel and inventorying the data in a format. The data validation technique used is the triangulation technique. The triangulation technique is carried out by creating various versions of questions, examining various data sources, utilizing various methods. The research findings on portraits of urban teenagers' lifestyles in the novel 12 Stories of Glen Anggara by Luluk HF include portraits of recreational prestige, portraits of instant lifestyles, portraits of individualist lifestyles, and portraits of virtual lifestyles
