Abstract

This research is done to describe the process, result and increasing factors of students’ ability in understanding the intrinsic elements from drama text by using cooperative learning method type STAD of grade VIII.3 of Tri Bhakti Junior high school students Pekanbaru. The conclusion are; first, in the increasing process, teacher explain the learning target, explain the learning material, read student with the highest score to become group’s chairman, teacher monitored the learning process, then students come back to their own chair and answer the questions given by the teacher. Second, the students’ ability in understanding the intrinsic elements from drama text increase, from 64 in pre-cycle become 72.68 in cycle I then there is an increasing score in cycle 2 with average score 88.82. Third, Factors cause the increasing students’ ability in understanding the intrinsic elements of drama text are; chairman is responsible to the group work in order to understand the material and answer the questions related to elements of drama text that is explained, and students can explained in front of the class with good and correct language.

Abstract

Absolute synonymy never encountered in any language. The near synonyms still have different meanings, though only in nuances. If there is no difference in nuance between the pairs of synonyms then one of the words will disappear from the vocabulary. This study aims to explain the nuances of meaning and kind of pair synonym sensory response in Indonesian adjektive. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that: (1) not all sensory responses Indonesian adjectives have a pairs synonym; (2) there are different nuance of meaning in every pair of synonymous sensory response adjektive; and (3) only two kind of synonymy in pairs synonymous sensory response adjectives was found, they are complete and absolute, and incomplete and not absolute. Synonyms word can concretize the use a personal language, so that trought language the communication is clear interesting. Paying attention to nuances of meaning that is synonymous Indonesian adjectives in speaking and writing can add color, sharpness, and precision of the wording.

Abstract

Coverage on certain mass media allegedly marginalizes women victims of rape. The purpose of this study was to to describe the gender perspective in the news of rape on the Harian Haluan. This writing analyzes reports of rape in the mass media using the method of critical discourse analysis model Sara Mills. The results showed (1) the position of women in the news of rape on the dominant Harian Haluan as the object of telling and (2) the gender ideology in the news of rape on Harian Haluan is patriarchy ideology. Most of the news of rape contains the assumption that men have power over women so women tend to be inferior and subordinated. Furthermore, the alignment of journalists in the news of rape on Harian Haluan, it was concluded that journalists tend to side with the perpetrators of rape.

Abstract

Understanding of the meaning in language to communicate is very important for language speakers. A speaker who does not understand the benefits of the language can lead to errors when communicating understanding. Moreover, the words used are synonyms. Some studies related to synonymy shows that different forms will have a different meaning. The purpose of this study is to explain the nuances of a transitive verb affixes meN-, -i partner meaning synonymous in Indonesian. This type of research is qualitative descriptive method. Of the 69 data obtained from various sources, there are six pairs of a transitive verb affixes meN-, -i synonymous. The results showed that: (a) not all transitive verbs affixes meN-, -i in Indonesian have a partner that is synonymous; (b) not found transitive verb affixes meN-, -i manifold absolute synonyms; (c) was found transitive verb affixes meN-, -i nuanced meaning both cognitive and emotive meaning. This means that not all of synonyms can be used to replace the partner. Speakers suggested to deepen in understanding the nuances of meaning in synonyms in order to choose the appropriate word.

Abstract

The 2017 of Jakarta Election is not only enlivened by the comments of politicians and experts , but also followed by the general public in a critical, obscene, and massive way. This study aimed to reveal the ideology in public opinions about the discourse of Jakarta election at social media. This research used qualitative-descriptive approach with content analysis method, and based on the critical discourse analysis theory by Norman Fairclough. The result of the research showed (1) about 57.4% of public opinions represent ideology of Islamic religion by raising the issue of the importance of Aqeedah, Sharia, and morals for leaders, through vocabularies like the similar faith, fellow moeslems, humane, and dirt, (2) a number of 34.8% show the ideology of secularism with the issue of electing the government leaders not a religious leader through the use of vocabularies such as performance, don’t, clean, not corrupt; while (3) just 7.8% represent the ideology of liberalism with the issue such as no offense for the public to choose their leader through the use of vocabularies such as freedom, logical thinking, realistic, and common sense.

Abstract

Jakarta Election 2017 was a phenomenal one from many points of views including aspect of language use as political tool. Therefore, this study aims to describe the politeness level of politicians in the discourse of Jakarta election 2017 at online portal news. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive method. Analyzing the data was exercised by content analysis method with the application of language politeness theory from Brown-Levinson and Leech. Based on data analysis, politicians are more dominant to convey their ideas through a rhetorical style of irony, expressive speech acts, and vague strategies; they also tend to violate rather than adhere to the politeness principle so, it was ‘high potential’ to threaten the face of the intended person or party. Based on the findings of this research, the level of language politeness performed by politicians in Jakarta Election is represented in three divisions; about 48% of comments of the politicians are at an ‘impolite’, 15% are at ‘less polite’ level, and only 36% are in the ‘polite’ category.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is (1) to gather empirical facts about the use of words and terms in Indonesian literatures, (2) understand implicature (aditional message) behind the the dynamic use of words and terms in Indonesian literatures. The fact about awareness of the usage of Indonesian language in literatures is expected to be supporting data in the development of Indonesian language history. The source of the data is Indonesian literatures including novels. The data are collected by reading technique, marking out, and taking notes. The data are analyzed using comparison technique, a technique that use words or terms in certain time and compared to those from another time. The result of this analysis shows that in 1980’s, many Indonesia literatures used vernacular words and terms. This period of time can be used as an alternatif to mark the development of Indonesian language, especially the development of the vocabulary. Besides, the use of words and terms in the speech of Indonesian novel characters are an implication that Indonesian society, particularly the writers are worried that traditional culture will be shifted by national culture. They want to be Indonesians without losing their traditional culture.Keywords: implicature, dinamyc use of words and terms, Indonesian, literature

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh seringnya siswa mengeluh bahwa pembelajaran di kelas kurang menyenangkan. Salah satu penyebab masalah itu adalah guru belum menggunakan strategi bertutur secara baik dalam proses pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripksikan dan menjelaskan strategi bertutur, konteks situasi tutur penggunaan setiap strategi bertutur, dampak penggunaan strategi bertutur terhadap kejelasan maksud penutur, dan dampak penggunaan strategi bertutur itu terhadap kesantunan berbahasa guru dalam proses pembelajaran  di SMP Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah  Padang.Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa rekaman tindak tutur dan hasil pengamatan tindak tutur yang dilakukan oleh siswa Ar-Risalah, dan hasil wawancara dengan guru dan siswa di SMP Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah Padang. Analisis data dilakukan dengan mengikuti model Miles dan Huberman, yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi, penyajian, dan kesimpulan tentang temuan penelitian.     Berdasarkan temuan penelitian dan pembahasan disimpulkan sebagai berikut ini. Strategi bertutur guru dalam proses pembelajaran di SMP Perguruan Islam Ar-Risalah Padang adalah strategi bertutur terus-terang tanpa basa-basi (BTTB), strategi bertutur terus-terang dengan basa-basi kesantunan positif (BTBKP), strategi bertutur terus-terang dengan basa-basi kesantunan negatif (BTBKN), dan strategi bertutur samar-samar (BS). Dari keempat strategi bertutur yang disukai oleh siswa adalah strategi bertutur terus terang dengan basa-basi kesantunan positif dan strategi bertutur terus terang dengan basa-basi kesantunan negatif. Penggunaan strategi BTTB dan BTBKP berdampak atau mengakibatkan makna tindak tutur menjadi jelas. Penggunaan strategi BTBKN dan BS berdampak atau mengakibatkan makna tindak tutur kurang jelas. Penggunaan strategi BTTB dan BTBKP berdampak atau mengakibatkan makna tindak tutur terasa santun dalam konteks masalah yang dibicarakan tidak sensitif dan dalam suasana akrab atau humor. Penggunaan strategi BTBKN dan BS berdampak santun dalam konteks suasana resmi dan kurang akrab.

Abstract

This study was conducted to explain (a) the difference in narrative essay writing skills of students who are taught using cooperative learning model CIRC with Jigsaw (b) differences in the ability to write narrative essays highly motivated students who are learning with cooperative learning model CIRC with Jigsaw; (c) differences in the ability to write narrative essays low motivated students who are learning to cooperative learning model CIRC with Jigsaw; and (d) the interaction between the use of models in the study of learning and motivation affect the ability of students to write a narrative essay. This study was a quasi-experimental (quasi-experiment) using a 2x2 factorial design. Population of 250 people, the study sample is taken by means of random sampling and obtained class VII / 2 as an experimental class I and class VII / 1 as the experimental class II, each consisting of 30 and 32 students. Data were collected by two instruments, namely motivation questionnaire and performance test writing narrative essays. Analyzing and discussion of the data is done by descriptive-analytical. Based on the results of data analysis, we can conclude the following four things. First, there are no significant differences in narrative essay writing skills of students who are taught using cooperative learning model CIRC with Jigsaw. Secondly, there is no significant difference in the ability to write narrative kararangan highly motivated students who are learning with cooperative learning model CIRC and Jigsaw. Third, there is no significant difference in the ability to write narrative kararangan low motivated students who are learning to cooperative learning model CIRC and Jigsaw. Fourth, there is no interaction between the model of learning with learning motivation in influencing the ability to write narrative essays seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 28 Padang. The use of models and Jigsaw cooperative CIRC can enhance students' ability to write a narrative essay, motivated either high or low.
