Abstract

This study investigates the depictions of Christian communities in the travel accounts of 13th-century Muslim geographers and travelers. The aim is to analyze their geographical spread, religious practices, social conditions, and interfaith relations within the broader Islamic world. Employing a qualitative historical analysis of primary Arabic sources, including works by Yaqut al-Hamawi, Zakariya al-Qazwini, Ibn al-Mujawir, and Abu al-Fida, the research highlights descriptions of Christian communities across the Middle East, East Africa, al-Andalus, and Central Asia. The findings reveal that Arab travelers not only documented Christian places of worship and practices but also emphasized coexistence and cultural plurality. The study concludes that such medieval Arabic sources provide invaluable insights into interreligious dynamics, tolerance, and historical thought in the Islamic world.

Abstract

This study explores the significance of Muhammad Obid Sindi’s seminal work al-Mawahib al-Latifa in the development of hadith sciences. The book represents a unique scholarly effort in analyzing hadith transmission chains (isnad), narrators’ reliability (jarh wa ta’dil), rare linguistic expressions, and jurisprudential interpretations (fiqh al-hadith). Unlike many predecessors, Sindi systematically categorized hadith, clarified textual complexities, and strengthened weak narrations with corroborative evidences, thereby elevating their status for jurisprudential use. His approach integrated the disciplines of hadith methodology, Arabic grammar, and Islamic jurisprudence, reflecting an advanced interdisciplinary scholarship. This paper argues that Sindi’s contributions extended beyond commentary, serving as a bridge between traditional hadith sciences and their application in legal and theological contexts. Ultimately, al-Mawahib al-Latifa emerges as a vital reference for understanding the authenticity, interpretation, and application of prophetic traditions within the broader Islamic scholarly heritage.

Abstract

This paper explores the linguistic significance and scholarly legacy of Mahmud Zamakhshari, one of the most prominent philologists of the Islamic Golden Age. Special attention is given to his influential lexicographic works, particularly Asas al-Balagha, which reflects his deep understanding of Arabic eloquence and grammar. The study analyzes the structure of his dictionary, the use of illustrative materials from the Qur’an, Hadith, Arabic poetry, and proverbs, as well as the categorization of lexical entries by meaning and usage. Furthermore, the paper highlights Muqaddimat al-Adab as a foundational work in multilingual lexicography and comparative linguistics. Zamakhshari's approach demonstrates a remarkable integration of linguistic theory and practical application, making his contributions valuable to both historical and contemporary linguistic studies.
