Abstract

One of the problems in upland soils is poor in nutrient N. One effort to increase the availability of N in the soil is by providing swallow’s droppings which has a high N content. Thus, the purpose of this research was to determine the availability of N on upland soil was by applying swallow manure. This research employed Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with single factors (several levels of swallow’s manure: 0.0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; and 10.0 t ha–1). The availability of N in the soil was observed through the experimental column leaching, where 20 g of Ultisols was mixed with 20 g of quartz sand and swallow’s manure on a leaching column of 1-inch diameter and 20 cm height. Mineralized amounts of NH4+ and NO3– from the soil were determined by the percolation method (leaching) in every five days for 25 days. The results showed that the application of swallow’s manure increased the availability of total-N in the soil in the form of NH4+ and NO3–, and produced the release pattern of NH4+ and NO3– which was still relatively high until the end of the testing period. The results of this study demonstrate that application of swallow’s manure may be used as a slow-release fertilizer.

Abstract

Ultisols have the potential to be developed as productive agricultural land, but need several efforts by means of organic matter and fertilizer applications. Biourine is a fermented liquid waste from cow urine. One of the commodities developed in Ultisol is spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir). The study aims to determine the effect of treatments of six biourin concentrations on available nitrogen, soil pH, and growth plants of spinach on Ultisol soil. The single factor of completely randomized design (CRD) used as an experimental design consists of six treatments with four replications (24 experimental units). The results showed that biourine had no effect on increasing soil ammonium-N and had no effect on soil nitrate-N and soil pH. Biourin affects the increase in wet weight and dry weight of spinach plants. There is a relationship between soil NO3- and NH4+ levels with wet weight. Biourin concentration level of 2% is the best concentration to increase ammonium-N, wet weight and dry weight.

Abstract

Indonesia is a coal producing country and coal mining activities are carried out using the open pit method. The activity resulted in the acid mine drainage (AMD). AMD has low pH and contains high concentrations of heavy metals ions such as aluminum (Al), iron (Fe) dan manganese (Mn). One of the interesting technologies in the AMD treatment is passive treatment using constructed wetland. The system can increase pH and reduce level of dissolved metals. Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) are potential to improve soil pH, because they have a high nutrient content such as N, P, and K. This study aims to determine the effect of OPEFB as amendment material on artificial wetland media on pH, Fe, Mn in AMD management. The method used was a single Randomized Complete Design with the treatment of OPEFB of 0, 100, 200, 300, and 500 g 5.5 kg-1 soil then replicated four times. The results showed that oil palm empty fruit bunches high significant increase in pH, Fe, Mn and 100 g 5.5 kg-1 soil doses effectively used for the AAT management by passive treatment as fulfilled the mining liquid waste quality standards according to the Ministerial Decree State of the Environment Number 113 of 2003 and South Kalimantan Province Governor Regulation Number 04 of 2007.

Abstract

Peat soil has various characteristics due to differences in peat-forming materials, formation processes, and environmental conditions. In South Kalimantan, the environment of peat formation is more dominant in the form of transition peat and inland peat. This study aims to determine the characteristics of transition peat soil and inland peat, including soil pH, total acidity, carboxylic functional groups (-COOH) and OH-phenolic functional groups, in South Kalimantan at the level of hemic reshuffle. This study used a purposive sampling method with regard to the decompotion degree of peat, i.e., hemic (half baked). The soil used comes from transitional peat (Sub-district of North Ulin/LUU and West Ulin Platform/LUB) and inland peat (Banjang District, Hulu Sungai Utara/HSU) and Kandangan Subdistrict, Hulu Sungai Selatan/HSS). The results showed that soil acidity in transitional peat (LUU and LUB) was higher than inland peat (HSU and HSS) as indicated by the pH value of transitional peat soil with a range of 4.25 and a total acidity concentration of 234.16 cmol kg-1 for transitional peat, while the carboxylic groups (-COOH) concentration in transition peat (LUU and LUB) and inland peat (HSU and HSS) showed almost the same concentration of 94.91 cmol kg-1 in transitional peat (LUU and LUB) and 92.83 cmol kg-1 in inland peat (HSU and HSS). The concentration of OH-phenolic groups in transitional peat (LUU and LUB) is higher than inland peat (HSU and HSS), which is indicated by the transitional peat OH-phenolic (LUU and LUB) groups concentration of 139.25 cmol kg-1.

Abstract

Podsolic soil in South Kalimantan has a low fertility rate including pH, organic matter, cation exchange capacity (CEC), solubility P, and has a high solubility of aluminum (Al) and iron (Fe). It causes fixation P by Al and Fe in the form of Al-P and Fe-P, which makes P difficult to dissolve in the soil. Zeolite is an ameliorant that is capable of improving soil chemical properties based on its ability to carry out ion exchange, adsorption, absorb molecules, increase fertilizer efficiency, increase soil CEC, and the availability of Ca, K, and P ions, which can reduce aluminum content. The purpose of this study was to identify the pattern of relationships caused by application of activated natural zeolite on Podsolic soil against pH, CEC, available P, soluble Fe, and exchangeable Al. This study was a pot experiment weighing 0.5 kg of soil, carried out in a greenhouse and arranged using CRD a single factor . The incubation period was carried out for eight weeks with three replications. The results showed that there was a relationship between the zeolite dose activated against the available P (the linear regression equation Y = 0.6 + 0.032 X, R2 = 0.4969, and r = 0.7006*), while the doses of zeolite had no significant effect on pH, CEC, soluble Fe, and exchangeable Al.

Abstract

Peat soils contain high concentrations of organic nitrogen, but in a form that is not available to plants. South Kalimantan has NH4+ in the range 4.51- 736.86 mg.kg-1 and NO3- content is in the range of 0.37-54.69 mg.kg-1. The low availability of N nutrients in peatlands is due to the slow nitrogen mineralization process and the very high mobility of N in the soil. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of peat and chicken manure on nitrogen mineralization. This study used a single factor in completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. carried out in greenhouses and in the Soil Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru. The treatment is the composition of peat and chicken manure, namely 100% peat material, 80% peat material + 20% chicken manure, 60% peat material + 40% chicken manure, 40% peat material + 60% chicken manure, 20% peat material + 80% chicken manure. The best composition for nitrogen mineralization is based on the high nitrate content, which is found in the composition of 80% peat soil + 20% chicken manure in the first month of incubation, and on the composition of 80% peat soil + 20% chicken manure in the second month. This composition is the best composition from a combination of peat material and chicken manure against nitrogen mineralization in the form of nitrates.

Abstract

As long as the issues with peat soil, particularly with some of its chemical qualities, can be treated properly, it has the potential to be utilized as agricultural land. Empty oil palm fruit bunches (EFB), which are produced by the size of oil palm farms, can be used to make biochar and EFB compost, which are then combined to create biokom, which can enhance soil structure and increase the availability of phosphorus in peat. Aspergillus oryzae-Tb7 is one of the phosphore solubilizing fungus (FPP) that aid in accelerating the release of accessible P. The byproduct of burning coal in a PLTU that is alkaline by nature and capable of raising soil pH to promote an increase in available P is known as coal fly ash (CFA). The goal of this study's conclusion was to ascertain the impact on the chemical characteristics of maize plants' uptake of P as well as soil pH, CEC, soluble Fe, and available P.A single-component, completely randomized design was used in this study (CRD). The factors A 0, which stood for "control without treatment," A1, "P fertilizer," A2, "P + Biochar fertilizer," A3, "P + CFA fertilizer," A4, "P fertilizer + Biokom + FPP," and "P fertilizer + Biokom + CFA + FPP," were tested. There were three repetitions of each therapy, yielding 18 trials. The findings show that the use of biokom, FPP, and CFA can improve P uptake, soil pH, CEC, and soil-accessible P while lowering plant dry weight and soluble Fe.

Abstract

The negative impact of open pit mining is damage to the environment. Damage to forest ecosystems results in decreased environmental quality, especially in soil as a biomass producer. The solution to the impacts caused by open pit mining is planning from the initial to post-mining stages prior to mining as an effort to preserve the environment. This study aims to determine the value and distribution of soil damage on selected parameters in the post-mining reclamation area. The research was conducted using a descriptive exploratory method with data obtained based on the analysis of the physical and chemical properties of the soil on selected parameters in the laboratory as primary and secondary data. Soil damage status in block 2 jackfruit pit in the post-mining reclamation area of CV. Cinta Puri Pratama, Mataraman District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan is classified as slightly damaged with the limiting factor being bulk density, based on the results of the assessment of the quality standards of several selected parameters for soil damage referring to Government Regulation Number 150 of 2000 concerning controlling soil damage for biomass production that there is damage to post-mining reclamation land the existence of the parameters studied shows a value that exceeds the critical threshold as evidenced through the results of an evaluation of the damage status of post-mining reclamation land, if even one of the parameter thresholds is exceeded, the soil is declared damaged, while the evaluation results show that there is one parameter that has exceeded the critical threshold.

Abstract

Podzolic soils have various problems including acidity of the soil (pH) and low soil nutrient content. This study aims to determine the effect of guano and dolomite on the availability of P nutrients in podsolik soils, and to determine the best treatment. This study was a pot experiment using a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor, namely (P1 = Dolomite 2 t ha-1); (P2 = Guano Fertilizer 0,5 t ha-1); (P3 Guano Fertilizer 0.5 t ha-1 and Dolomite 2 t ha-1); (P4 = Guano Fertilizer 1 t ha-1 and Dolomite 2 t ha-1); (P5 Guano Fertilizer 1.5 t ha-1 and Dolomite 2 t ha-1). Each treatment was repeated 4 times, so there were 24 experimental units. The results showed that the application of dolomite and guano fertilizers had an effect on the available-P, pH, Exchangable Ca and Exchangable Al. However, it has no effect on Mg-dd in Podzolic soil. The application of dolomite and guano fertilizer with a dosage of 0.5 t ha-1 guano fertilizer and 2 t ha-1 dolomite was the best result for the availability of P, Exchangable Ca and pH.

Abstract

Swamps in Indonesia are widely spread over four major islands, namely in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, and Sulawesi Papua. The problem with acid-sulfate soils is when the pyrite layer is oxidized. This study used a two-factorial with completly randomized design (CRD). The first factor was flooding fluctuation an the second factor was lime with straw compost. The soil parameters tested were pH and soluble Fe. Observations in the second week of the treatment of fluctuations in puddles that were drained, then flooded and added with a mixture of 3 t ha-1 lime, and 2.5 t ha-1 of straw compos resulted in the highest pH of 6.21. The best soil pH was given lime at 3 t ha-1, both flooded and drained. Observations in the fourth week produced the highest pH, namely 4.80. The pH value of the slightly acidic soil was due to an oxidation-reduction process. The 2nd week of observation had the highest soluble Fe value of 221 mg kg1, which was due to the analysis of soluble Fe using a pH of 4.8 so that Fe2+ increased in dissolved Fe. The fourth week of observation had the lowest soluble Fe value of 56.34 mg kg-1. This was due to flooding and the application of a mixture of lime and rice straw compost. The results of the study show that the interaction of fluctuations in water, lime, and rice straw compost that can affect soil pH and the solubility of soil soluble iron (Fe2+).
