Abstract

The involvement of people in the stock market has also increased in recent days. Thus, as a result, the volatility of the market has also increased. The profit-to-loss ratio on the stock market trade has also been on the lower side. The difficulties in the stock market have been unpredictable, thus upsetting the interests of the investors. This study compares the movement of the Indian stock markets (Sensex and Nifty) with six other major Asian stock markets (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan) and tries to find the relationship between them. This study is done to check whether the movement of the major Asian stock markets is a predictor of the movement of the Indian stock markets. Statistical tools such as ordinary least squares, the Granger co-integration test, and a correlation matrix are used in this study to calculate the relationships. The result of this study will be helpful for stock market investors, particularly the short-term traders (intra-day traders) on the BSE and NSE.

Abstract

The examination of the predictive power of CAPM and CCAPM in determining risk premium in Nigeria between 1999-2014 shows that CAPM is statistically significant for all equities although the coefficient is relatively high. However, CCAPM was statistically not significant for all equities listed though the results was meaningful. This is in line with the findings of Mankiw and Shapiro (1986), Chen (2003) and Idolor (2012) where the authors’ findings did not support CCAPM but concluded that the superiority of CAPM is a puzzle. In conclusion Capital Asset Pricing Model produced a more meaningful and statistically significant result in predicting equity premium in Nigeria than Consumption Capital Asset Pricing Model.

Abstract

School discipline is a matter of concern particularly among teachers, family, educators and other stakeholders. Students cannot learn and teachers cannot teach effectively in an undisciplined and unsafe environment and therefore order and discipline are necessary for successful educational outcomes. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of students attitude on the management of discipline in public secondary schools in Kigumo Sub County, Muranga County. The study was guided by the Social Learning Theory and System Management Theories. The study adopted a concurrent triangulation design with a mixed design methodology where both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed. The study population were all the public secondary schools in Kigumo Sub County, Muranga County including all the students, teachers and deputy principals. A stratified random sampling method was used to pick 379 students. Purposive sampling was used to pick 30 deputy principals and 30 teachers in charge of discipline management. Questionnaires and interview schedules were used in data collection. The study was piloted in 5 schools in the neighbouring Kahuro Sub County. Reliability and validity of the research instruments were tested during piloting as well as taking into consideration 2 experts’ assessments respectively. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used in data analysis to generate the frequencies, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation statistics, chi-square tests as well as correlation coefficient statistics that were used to analyze the data and answer the research questions. Findings were presented using statistical tables. The study made some important findings that drew it to make some important conclusions. It can be noted that there were significant relationships between school characteristics and issues of indiscipline. In the recommendation, guidance and counselling should be included as part of the secondary school curriculum. Additionally, community centres and rehabilitation centres should setup to take care of students and promotion social activities.

Abstract

The study investigated the Strategies for Computer Science Education Programme at Kogi State University, Anyigba. The purpose of the study was specifically targeting the types of computer facilities, their importance in computer education, factors militating against effective use for teaching and learning and strategies to be adopted for effective teaching and learning. Four research questions and four hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. 100 computer students were purposively sampled for the study. Computer Education Checklist (CEC) and Strategies for Computer Education Questionnaire (SCEQ) were used as data collection tools. Percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data collected. Analysis revealed that (1) the types of computer facilities available for computer education are laptops, printers, computer laboratories, desktops, monitors, CPU and Diskettes, CDs and flash (2) the benefits of computer education are that computer education programme enhances efficiency in teaching and learning, makes instruction in the class to be lively, and enhances individualization of learning among others,  (3) several factors militate against computer education programmes in the study area are lack of skills, cost of the facilities, weak infrastructure, lack of relevant software, limited access to the internet and others and (5) strategies to handle the challenges above are that computer training for teachers, procurement of hardware facilities, curriculum development, and software development, maintenance of computer systems, adequate funding, and increase in government allocation to computer studies and provision of internet facilities should be used.

Abstract

Driver’s behavour is more complex when they are using the road. There are no universal guidelines for such behavour. The research studied the effect of gender on driver behavour in road traffic crashes in Lagos State. For data collection, a cross sectional research design was adopted. The data used in this study were collected from drivers in Lagos state through the use of a Driver Behavour Questionnaire (DBQ) and Driver Skill Inventory (DSI), Survey between February, 2021 and March, 2022. Three thousand seven hundred (3,700) questionnaires were administered and 3,270 questionnaires were retrieved. The data generated were analysed using Chi-square tests, student ‘t’ test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the mann-whitney ‘U’ test statistics. These techniques were used to test the differences between male and female drivers on the driver behaviour (DBQ) and driver skill inventory (DSI) items. The study revealed that more than half of the studied drivers in Lagos State (66%) were men whereas (44%) were women. Also among the studied drivers, young drivers of the age group below 30 years (37.2%) were involved in accident crashes with a higher risk of involving in an accident. The analyses also showed that women reported a higher number of violations, and lapses. However, no significant association was found between male and female drivers in terms of errors. The results also showed that six (6) items of violations, three (3) items of lapses and three (3) items of error had significant association among male drivers as compared to female drivers in Lagos State. Based on the findings preventive measures are suggested to reduce the road accident crashes such as training and retraining of drivers, driver education, enforcement, seatbelts, speed limits etc.
