Abstract

The main goal of the learning process is to improve students' ability to solve mathematical problems. However, the practice of problem solving skills among students in an educational environment is still inadequate. The Problem Based Learning model emerges as a potential undertaking by taking a unique approach to problem solving. In particular, the ability of E-phase students at SMAN 8 Padang to solve mathematical problems in the course material Equations and Quadratic Functions is the focus of this study, which seeks to determine the beneficial effects of the PBL model's adoption. This study adopts the quasi-experimental method and a quantitative methodology, as well as the research design posttest-only nonequivalent group design. There were 351 E-phase students at SMAN 8 Padang who made up the study's population. To select participants, the research sample selection strategy used a simple random sampling technique which was introduced as simple random sampling. As a result, X.E5 was designated as the experimental class, while X.E7 was designated as the control class. The results of the data analysis from the mathematical problem solving ability test, found a P-value of 0.002, with a significance level (α = 0.05). Because the P-value < α, the H0 implication is rejected. The study's findings support the hypothesis that utilizing a problem based learning paradigm has an impact or effect on E-Phase students enrolled in SMAN 8 Padang's capacity to solve mathematical problems. Keywords– Problem Based Learning (PBL) , Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the crucial subjects to increase the skills of problem solving in mathematical of high school (SMA) students. However, there are still many students who make false in solving mathematical problem solving questions. The research purpose was to describe students' mistakes in solving mathematical problem solving questions and to look the factors that why students to make false in solving mathematical problem solving questions. This research type is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The techniques for data collection used in this research were mathematical problem solving tests and semi-structured interviews. The research subjects were students of class XI SMA Negeri 3 Padang. The results showed that there were 5 mistakes made by students in solving mathematical problem solving questions according to Newman's error analysis, namely (1) reading, 21% of students who make this error; (2) comprehension, 31% of students who carry out error; (3) transformation, 37% of students who carry out error; (4) process skill, 47% of students who carry out error and; (5) encoding, 54%. The errors type made by high group subjects in general were process skill and encoding. The types of errors that were made by the subject of the medium group in general were transformation, process skills, and encoding. The errors types made by the low group subjects were comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding. Keywords – Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Newman’s Error Analysis

Abstract

This research aims to describe what and how student’s made error, and how Scaffolding Treatment impact students in term of student’s error when solving mathematics problem related to critical thinking skills. This research was conducted using descriptive method and qualitative approaches. The subject of the research were thirty-four senior high school students. To collect data, mathematics critical thinking test were given and purposively selected six students as respondent of scaffolding based interview. The results show that: 1) most of the errors made are incomplete process when answering (PTL) that cause by the lack of ability to create explanation, and misinterpretation of problem or concept that cause by lack of interpretation and analysis ability. 2) Scaffolding are useful to help students find error, comprehend new understanding, and trigger students to think critically. Keywords—Mathematical Critical Thinking, Scaffolding, Student’s Error

Abstract

Abstract - The purpose of this study is to provide Electronic Learner Worksheets (E-LKPD) for students in junior high school's VIIth grade who need to solve mathematical problems in context. The Plomp model is used in the creation of this liveworksheet-based E-LKPD. The process of creating an E-LKPD using live worksheets includes a preliminary needs analysis, curriculum development, concepts, student evaluation, and self-evaluation. Questionnaires, interviews, and observations were the sources of data for this preliminary research. According to preliminary investigation, E-LKPD are required to help students develop their problem-solving abilities, and students are interested in using interactive, effective LKPDs that can be accessed on liveworksheet. The E-LKPDs were then created and assessed independently in relation to the mistakes made when utilizing them. Liveworksheet-based E-LKPDs and self-evaluations have been created based on the initial study and can be verified by specialists.Keyword: E-LKPD, Contextual Teaching and Learning, Mathematical Problem Solving Abilites, Liveworksheet

Abstract

The assessment results provide a means of observing the learning outcomes in mathematics. The study's findings indicate that the academic achievements of eighth-grade pupils at Padang Development Junior High School remain subpar. This phenomenon arises due to errors committed throughout the process of problem-solving. Consequently, a comprehensive examination of these errors is conducted in order to identify the mistakes made by pupils, utilizing Newman's Error study as the basis for study. The present study used a descriptive research design. The participants in this study consisted of pupils enrolled in the eighth grade. The SMP Pembangunan Padang is a secondary school located in the city of Padang. The data analysis reveals the presence of many sorts of errors, including reading and comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skills faults, and final response writing errors. Keywords– Mathematics Problem, Newman’s Error Analysis, Student of SMP Pembangunan Padang

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is one of the most important ability to expand in mathematical learning. In fact, mathematical problem-solving ability is not yet optimal especially in grade 12 students of SMA Negeri 1 Kepahiang. One of the solution given is implement Search, Solve, Create, and Share learning model. The research’s aims are to analyze whether mathematical problem-solving ability of students that using SSCS learning model is better than the students that using direct learning and also to describe their ability who using SSCS model learning. The research methods are quasi-experiment and descriptive using Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group design. Hypothesis is tested using Mann Whitney U test with result P-Value = 0,000 which means reject H0. The conclusion is mathematical problem-solving of students that using SSCS learning model is better than students that using direct learning in grade 12 of SMA Negeri 1 Kepahiang. Keywords — Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability, SSCS Learning Model, Direct Learning

Abstract

In the study of mathematics, the ability to solve mathematical problems is a very important skill. Based on the results of the Final Semester Examination and an initial test of mathematical problem-solving abilities, it appears that class VII at SMPN 8 Payakumbuh still lack the ability to solve mathematical problems. The problem-posing learning model is the ideal model for improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. The descriptive and quasi-experimental design of this kind of research employs a Randomized Control Group Only Design. Simple Random Sampling was used for the sampling. as the experimental and control classes, VII.1 and VII.5. The experimental class is the subject of this study. The study's findings include P-Value = 0.010 =0.05, H0 is rejected, and it is concluded that students in class VII SMPN 8 Payakumbuh Academic Year 2022/2023 who learn with a problem-posing model have better mathematical problem-solving abilities than conventional learning model.Keywords. – Mathematical Problem-Solving Abilities, Problem Posing

Abstract

Students must possess mathematical communication abilities as one of their mathematical competencies. In actuality, however, this aptitude in the eighth grade of SMPN 25 Padang remains relatively modest. The use of learning models that discourage active participation in communicating mathematical concepts is one of the contributing factors. The Think Pair Square cooperative learning model and Discovery Learning-based LKPD will be utilized to address these issues. This research is quasi-experimental and descriptive in nature, with a design consisting solely of randomized control groups. The hypothesis test's P-value of 0.035 indicates that H0 should be rejected based on the research findings. Thus, the conclusion reached is that the mathematical communication skills of eighth-grade SMPN 25 Padang students whose learning uses the Think Pair Square model supported by discovery learning-based LKPD are superior to those of students whose learning uses conventional models.Keywords. – Cooperative Learning, Think Pair Square, Discovery Learning, Mathematical Communication Abilities
