Jurnal Ekonomi dan Pembangunan Indonesia (JEPI) has been published since 2000 by the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Indonesia. The journal has been accredited B as a national academic journal based on the Decree of the Director General for Higher Education Accreditation Number 43/DIKTI/Kep/2008. In 2015, it has got re-accreditation B based on Decree of the Director General for Higher Education Accreditation Number 1/E/KPT/2015 on 21 September 2015 for period 2015-2019. Then, JEPI has Reakreditasi Tetap di Peringkat 2 based on Decree of the Minister of Research and Technology/Head of National Research and Innovation Agency Number 148/M/KPT/2020 on 3 August 2020 for period 2020-2025. The journal published biannual in January and July. JEPI focuses on issues pertaining empirical investigation on Indonesian economy. The journal aims to publish and disseminate high quality publication at national level through blind review process. The articles published in JEPI are expected to cover wide range topics in economics and employed standard economics analysis tools focusing on Indonesian economy. The topic encompasses various fields of economics, including but not limited to monetary, fiscal, environment and natural resource, industrial organization, regional and urban economics, and international and trade. It is expected for JEPI to facilitate students, lecturers and researchers to contribute significantly in understanding Indonesian economy.

Abstract

This paper studies empirical relationship between competition and innovation in Indonesia using micro data BPS. Lack of innovation data has requires this paper to use R&D expenditure as innovation in year of data avaibility. Competition is estimated by computing profit elasticity, based on idea of efficiency. Inverted-U shape tested with technology spread within industries at which effect of competition and innovation can turn from positive to negative. Empirical evidence shows that relationship between competition and innovation is inverted-U with very low optimal point. This means that very few industries can increase innovation and almost all industries will reduce innovation as competition increases.

Abstract

This research was conducted because the uncertainty in the tax amnesty policy. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of taxpayer’s expectation of future tax amnesty, tariff period system, tax penalty and audit towards tax compliance in tax amnesty policy, using experimental economics. The result shows that, a tax amnesty followed by strict audit and tax penalties will rise tax compliance. Tax amnesty policy is best applied once in a lifetime, because the expectation of the taxpayers towards future tax amnesty will result in lowering the compliance. Taxpayers prefer the lowest rate on tariff period.

Abstract

Debates over the effect of trade openness on inequality across regions in a country have been arising. Mainly apply on developing countries, such as Indonesia, trade openness affect different level of development across regions. This study is aimed at determining the effect of trade openness on inequality within provinces in Indonesia. A panel data analysis of 33 Indonesian provinces in the period of 2006–2015 has showed that trade openness has no significant effect on regional inequality.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of spatial dependence on Indonesia’s regional economic growth based on panel data of all provinces in Indonesia during 1990–2015. By using spatial Durbin model, the authors found that spatial dependence plays an important role in achieving regional economic growth in Indonesia. Indonesia’s regional economic growth model that controls spatial dependence, yields better estimates than growth model that does not control spatial dependence. The researchers also found positive spatial spillover to Indonesia’s regional economic growth sourced from other region’s economic growth and initial per capita incomes, as well as population growth in other regions.

Abstract

Industrial area is one of the determinant factors in the development of manufacturing industry in a region. Theoretically, industrial companies located in industrial areas have an impact on increasing productivity, added value, efficiency, and economic income of a region. This research aims to analyze the role of industrial area in overcoming the deindustrialization symptom with Social Accounting Matrix Model. The result of analysis shows that industrial area has an important role in increasing the output of economy and the absorption of bigger workforce so that indirectly will have an impact on acceleration of industrialization process and also to overcome deindustrialization.

Abstract

This paper investigates the difference effects of progressive rate and single rate implementation on corporate income tax to tax evasion indication. Using firm level data of tax audit results as a measure of tax evasion indication for six years observations. The empirical results from the sample data show that the implementation of single rate on corporate income tax reduces the tax evasion indication. In addition, the results show that the higher the marginal income tax rate, the higher the tax evasion indication.

Abstract

The volatility of expenditures sub-local derived from central government transparency in transfers to local governments may aggravate sublocal economy. This study aims to analyze the effect of fiscal decentralization to the level of volatility of local government spending in 230 sub-local in Indonesia. We use two periods, before and after the implementation of Law No. 28 Year 2009. The regression results indicate that the volatility of local government spending may decrease if the degree of fiscal decentralization increases, especially at the time when districts implement that law. As responsive taxation can provide incentives for smooth spending for sub-local government.

Abstract

Short Biography Shinichi Ichimura lahir di Kyoto, pada 1925. Seusai lulus dari Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Kyoto (1949), beliau menempuh studi di Amerika Serikat tahun 1950, dan mendapat gelar Ph.D. dari MIT tahun 1953. Beliau pernah menjabat sebagai associate professor di UniversitasWakayama, profesor di Institute of Social and Economic Research, Universitas Osaka, lalu tahun 1968 menjabat sebagai dosen di Centre for Southeast Asian Studies di Universitas Kyoto (1969–1979 sebagai direktur). Setelah pensiun pada Maret 1988, beliau mendapat gelar Profesor Emeritus dan diangkat sebagaiWakil Rektor Osaka International University per April 1988, lalu menjadi Presiden International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development (ICSEAD) di Kitakyushu pada 1995. Kemudian menjabat sebagai penasihat ICSEAD tahun 2002–2005. Selain itu, pada 1961 terpilih sebagai Fellow dari The Econometric Society. Beliau juga pernah menjabat sebagai Ketua East Asian Economic Association tahun 1992–1996 dan Ketua Editor Asian Economic Journal pada 1988–1996. Kontribusi kepada dunia dilakukan dengan cara aktif menyusun dan menerapkan tabel input-output, serta model ekonometrik makro untuk Jepang dan negara-negara Asia yang dituangkan dalam banyak publikasi yang berbahasa Inggris.
