Abstract

Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a recurring mental health condition that causes individuals to experience alternating episodes of mania and depression. This research explores the prevalence and contributing risk factors for BD among young adults in District Dera Ismail Khan, with a focus on socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, educational background, and employment status. Methods: This cross-sectional study used the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) to screen for BD among 339 participants, aged 17–37 years. Participants were asked questions on their age, gender, educational background, and employment status. Results: Results showed that 34.8% of participants screened positive for BD, with a higher prevalence in females (35.8%) compared to males (33.1%). A higher BD prevalence was also observed among older participants and those with advanced education. Additionally, unemployed individuals showed a greater prevalence of BD (37.1%) than employed individuals (23.2%). Conclusion: The findings demonstrate a significant prevalence of BD in District Dera Ismail Khan, particularly among females, young adults, individuals with higher education, and the unemployed. Mental health interventions tailored to these groups may help improve outcomes in this region

Abstract

This paper delves into the complex theme of loss and abandonment in Douglas Stuart’s Shuggie Bain. The novel is set against the backdrop of 1980s Glasgow, grappling with economic decline and social disintegration. The novel paints a vivid portrait of overt abandonment, such as parental desertion, and subtle forms, like emotional neglect and societal indifference. Through the lens of young Shuggie Bain, Stuart intricately captures the impact of his father’s absence and his mother Agnes’s struggle with alcoholism. He illustrates how these direct forms of abandonment fracture the family’s stability and Shuggie’s childhood. Stuart goes beyond the obvious, layering his narrative with subtler portrayals of abandonment. He concentrates on the emotional withdrawal of community members numbed by poverty and the internal conflicts within Shuggie household. By focusing on these layered experiences, this paper investigates how Stuart illuminates the personal traumas of his characters. He also critiques broader social issues, including economic disenfranchisement, addiction, and the erosion of communal bonds. The analysis underscores how Stuart employs abandonment as a recurring motif to explore the disintegration of both individual lives and social fabric. This paper argues that the overlapping experiences of loss in Shuggie Bain offer a profound exploration of resilience and the human capacity to find hope amidst pervasive despair. It reveals the indelible marks that abandonment leaves on identity, relationships, and community

Abstract

The bioenergy sector absolutely depends on pumps to manage fluid movement across anaerobic digestion as well as biofuel manufacturing and biomass processing activities. The research examines both efficiencies along with sustainability measures and performance qualities of bioenergy pumps by analyzing fundamental operational characteristics involving material endurance and power utilization for managing corrosive and viscous biomaterials. The research explores updated pump technology medicines positive displacement along with centrifugal pumps in order to evaluate their influence on procedure reliability and biological gas production rates and energy utilization. This analysis focuses on the comparison between standard and optimized pump solutions through a study of their whole life value and nature conservation aspects. Optimized selection of pumps combined with operational strategies will help this study make bioenergy systems more sustainable through decreased energy waste and increased process efficiency. The research presents recommendations about enhancing future designs of pumping systems and their implementation methods
