The physical interior of the St Paulus Catholic Church could be seen as a representation of core values in the Catholic's Liturgy. Thus every aspect and detail of the design must compromise with the true meanings of the liturgy with no exceptions from the perception of architectâ€™s as well as the priestâ€™s point of view. Furthermore the semiotic approach will produce the true meaning of core values in the Catholic Liturgy by looking through the signs and sysmbols that can be observed from each physical aspect of the interior of the church The expected result of the approach is the connotation and denotation value, which will be observed based on the design basics. Although the shapes and forms of the interior seem different from common catholic churches, it is observed that the St. Paulus Catholic Chucrh liturgy apparatus such as the altar, the pastor stand, the cross, as well as the room layout, etc still reflect representations of the core liturgy values in semiotic ways. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Wujud fisik interior Gereja Katolik Santo Paulus Surabaya merupakan salah satu wujud dari nilai-nilai Liturgi Katolik. Oleh karena itu setiap unsur seharusnya disesuaikan dengan makna liturgi, walaupun dengan persepsi-persepi yang berbeda baik dari pihak arsitek maupun pastor paroki. Lebih lanjut, perwujudan nilai-nilai liturgi tersebut menjadi â€˜tandaâ€™ yang akan didekati secara semiotik sehingga ditemukan makna denotatif dan konotatifnya, yang ditinjau berdasarkan perwujudan nirmana. Secara semiotik perwujudan interior, seperti perwujudan bentuk lay out, elemen pembentuk ruang, dan perlengkapan liturgi di Gereja Katolik Santo Paulus Surabaya ini ternyata masih sesuai dengan nilai-nilai liturgi walaupun memiliki bentuk yang berbeda. Kata kunci: Interior Gereja Katolik, Pendekatan Semiotik.

Autism is a mental disorder faced by some children during their childhood. Generally, autistic children are secluded by their environment. Nowadays, however, they are given more concern. Schools and therapy centres for autistic children are increasing and developing. The unique behaviour of the autistic children requires special interior design needs and specifications. This research observes whether a therapy centre for austistic children that was once a residential house is appropriate to its function. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Autis merupakan salah satu kelainan mental yang dialami sejak masa anak-anak. Pada umumnya para penyandang autis selalu dikucilkan dari lingkungannya, namun pada masa sekarang hak para penyandang autis sudah banyak dihargai. Sekolah dan pusat terapi untuk mendidik mereka sudah banyak didirikan. Karakteristik yang unik dari kelainan para penyandang autis ini menyebabkan adanya perlakuan khusus dalam hal interiornya. Penelitian ini meninjau sebuah pusat terapi autis yang pada awalnya menggunakan layout sebuah rumah tinggal, apakah sudah sesuai untuk pusat terapi pendidikan anak autis. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Malang is a church developed in the 12th-14th century that was built in Gothic style wich rose windows. This research aims to observe the meaning behind the rose windows located above the entrance gate of the church, using phenomenological method, beginning with exploring the meaning of the rose windows of the church until analyzing the results of the interviews with some respondents. The results show a shift in the meaning of the rose windows by most people. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Gereja Paroki Hati Kudus Yesus Malang merupakan salah satu bangunan gereja bergaya Gothic yang berkembang pada abad XII-XIV dengan salah satu cirinya memiliki rose window. Penelitian ini mengkaji makna rose window yang terdapat di atas gerbang depan gereja dengan menggunakan metode fenomenologi. Kajian dimulai dengan mengetahui makna rose window yang terkandung pada gereja tersebut sampai dengan analisis hasil wawancara terhadap beberapa responden gereja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa saat ini kebanyakan pengguna memiliki pemaknaan yang berbeda terhadap rose window. Kata kunci: Kajian Fenomenologi, Rose Window, Gereja Paroki Hati Kudus Yesus.

A Chapel is a small church where Catholics worship God. The quiet, silent and comfortable atmosphere for worshiping depends on the acoustic quality of the room that can support worshiping activities such as praying, singing and listening to the priestâ€™s sermon. An interior designer has an important role in creating an atmosphere suitable for worship in the chapel. The criterion of a good and suitable acoustic system in a chapel is influenced by shape of the lay out, the absorbsing materials used and the acoustic tools. An Acoustic parameter determines the quality of acoustics used in order to avoid disturbances caused by poor acoustic systems. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Kapel merupakan tempat beribadah untuk umat katolik. Untuk menciptakan suasana ibadah yang hening, syahdu dan nyaman tergantung atas kualitas akustik ruang sehingga umat dapat berdoa, memuji Tuhan dan mendengarkan firman dari pastor dengan khidmat. Perancang interior berperan dalam menciptakan suasana khidmat dalam kapel. Kriteria akustik yang baik dalam suatu kapel dipengaruhi bentuk denah, bahan penyerapan yang digunakan dan alat akustik yang baik. Parameter akustik menentukan kualitas akustik yang digunakan agar tidak mengakibatkan kecacatan akustik yang mengganggu lingkungan sekitar. Kata kunci: Sistem Akustik, Interior, Kapel

The Chinese culture is rich with symbols and meanings, particuliarly the ones related to living creatures. The Chinese society often draw relationships between the characteristics of animals to the values in life desired by mankind in order to achieve perfection. The temple is one of the places rich in Chinese animal symbolism. In the temple of Kwan Sing Bio Tuban, the application of animal symbolism is exceedingly prominent. The dragon, phoenix, unicorn, horse and other animals symbolize important values in life such as health, longevity, strength, wealth and protection. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Budaya Tionghoa kaya akan makna dan simbol, khususnya yang berhubungan dengan mahluk hidup. Masyarakat Tionghoa sering mengkaitkan sifat-sifat hewan dengan nilai-nilai hidup menuju kesempurnaan yang diingini oleh setiap manusia. Klenteng merupakan salah satu tempat aplikasi budaya Tionghoa yang penuh dengan simbol mahluk hidup. Di klenteng Kwan Sing Bio Tuban, penerapan simbol mahluk hidup banyak sekali ditemukan. Naga (lung), phoenix (feng), unicorn (kili), kuda (ma) dan berbagai macam hewan lainnya melambangkan nilai-nilai kehidupan seperti kesehatan, panjang umur, kekuatan, kemakmuran, dan perlindungan. Kata kunci: makna, ragam hias, budaya Tionghoa, klenteng, mahluk hidup.

Natural ventilation for dwellings in tropical wet regions is very important for health. The requirement for natural ventilation is measured in air change rate (ACH) constituting of the availability of fresh air, quality of air circulation, heat losses, and unwanted gasses in the room. Wind speed is useful for accelerating evaporative cooling process and thus plays an important role for thermal comfort in the interior room. Local wind conditions affects the ventilation of a building and therefore might cause problems in predicting the natural ventilation and thermal comfort in a high-rise building, especially in the area and orientation of an opening that is not perpendicular to the wind direction. Ventilation parameters that are to be observed are the air flow rate and air change (ACH) that are gained from a simulation using the AILOS software. The results show that if the opening orientation is at the wind shadow zone, the interior space will not receive wind, it obtains sucking pressure instead. The design of an opening should focus on the area of inlet and outlet because when ACH does not increase, consequently internal wind speed becomes low and thermal comfort will not be met. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Keberadaan ventilasi alam pada hunian lingkungan tropis lembab sangat penting bagi kesehatan. Persyaratan ventilasi alam dinyatakan dalam bentuk air change rate (ACH) berupa ketersediaan udara segar, sirkulasi udara yang baik, pengeluaran panas, dan gas yang tidak diinginkan di dalam ruang. Kecepatan angin bermanfaat mempercepat proses evaporative cooling, sehingga sangat berperan dalam menciptakan kenyamanan termal ruang dalam. Kondisi angin setempat mempengaruhi lingkungan penghawaan suatu bangunan, sehingga mungkin timbul permasalahan dalam memprediksi kondisi ventilasi alam dan kenyamanan termal pada hunian rumah susun, utamanya luasan dan orientasi bukaan yang tidak tegak lurus aliran angin. Parameter ventilasi yang akan diamati yaitu air flow rate dan air change (ACH) yang didapatkan dari simulasi dengan menggunakan perangkat lunak AILOS. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa jika orientasi bukaan berada pada wilayah wind shadow maka ruang dalam tidak menerima angin, yang terjadi justru mendapat tekanan hisapan. Desain bukaan perlu memperhatikan luasan inlet dan outlet karena apabila ACH tidak mengalami kenaikan berarti, maka kecepatan angin internal menjadi rendah dan kenyamanan termal tidak terpenuhi.
