Abstract

The existence of Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana continues to exist and spread its wings in the midst of Jombang society, which is a unique social phenomenon to be studied. This article aims to explore Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana in Jombang Regency from a historical diachronic point of view. This search uses historical research methods with a sociological approach. The theory used in the analysis is John Obert Voll's theory of Continuity and Change. The results of this search are summed up into three points. First, the establishment of Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana, which was triggered at the 100th anniversary of the death of the Indonesian professor, Gus Dur, in 2010 under the tutelage of KH. Nur Hadi. Second, the development of the Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana from 2010-2018 has progressed very rapidly, starting from the development of the activity program, increasing the number of members and the spread of the Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana area to the area around Jombang Regency. Third, the views of the Jombang people regarding the development of Jam'iyah Sholawat Seribu Rebana all responded positively, accompanied by several important notes.

Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Acculturation of the Tingkeban Tradition (Case Study in Bakalanrayung Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency)”. This study has two research focuses, namely the implementation of the Tingkeban ceremony in Bakalanrayung Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency, and the cultural elements that are acculturated in the Tingkeban ceremony in Bakalanrayung Village. This study uses the historical research method according to Kuntowijoyo, with several stages: topic selection, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The anthropological approach is used to analyze the cultural studies of the Tingkeban tradition through various cultural elements as descriptive objects of culture. The theory used is the theory of acculturation and the theory of religion from Koentjaraningrat. The results of this study are (1) the stages of implementing Tingkeban starting with determining the time and place, followed by preparing the items needed, preparation before the event, and then carrying out the main event procession consisting of khataman, taking cengkir by the father-to-be, recitation, watering and holy, changing cloth or jarik, and selling dawet. (2) There are various cultural elements that blend with each other. These cultural elements consist of Animism and Dynamism beliefs, Hindu culture, and elements of Islamic culture.
