Abstract

Lamongan Regency is one of the districts in East Java which have high potential of fishery resources. Purpose of this study is to determine the business feasibility of purse seine fishing gear at TPI Kranji, Lamongan. The data collection technique was carried out by field observations and in-depth interviews. Methods of data analysis with financial analysis using Net Present Value (NPV), Payback Period (PP), and Benefit Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio) methods. Analysis results shows that the purse seine business at TPI Kranji was financially feasible according to the NPV value at the 5th year of IDR 1,890,298,600. The purse seine business at TPI Kranji also can return the initial investment costs in a period of 1 year based on the PP calculation and the B/C Ratio value is obtained 22.49 so it is classified as financially feasible. It is recommended that fishing business using purse seines at TPI Kranji is not only an effort to get the maximum profit, but also to maintain the sustainability of fisheries in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Increasing time has made technological advances increase, including in the field of fisheries which has a positive impact on fishing business in Indonesia. Environmentally friendly fishing technology is a fishing gear that does not have a negative impact on the environment. The use of environmentally friendly fishing gear is very important to be applied in the fishing process in certain waters. This study was conducted in Kranji Village, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency. The purpose of this study is to analyse the level of friendliness of fishing gear in Kranji Village, besides the specifications, operating methods, and variety of catches. The research method used survey and in-depth interviews with related parties related to the results of research and the level of friendliness of fishing gear. The weighting determination of the level of environmental friendliness of fishing gear is based on the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The results of this study shows that the purse seine fishing gear, cob nets, gill nets and payang are environmentally friendly fishing gears, while mini trawlers are non-environmentally friendly fishing gear. This indicates that the presence of trawling gear can affect the decline in fishery resources in Kranji, Lamongan Regency.

Abstract

Stingray is a type of fish included in the Elasmobranchii class that has high economic potential. This study aims to determine the sex ratio, growth rate, length-weight relationship, condition factor, mortality and exploitation rate of stingray (Neotrygon orientalis) in PPN Brondong, Lamongan. Samples N. orientalis collected every week starting from October 1, 2019 until January 2021 and weighed in total body weight (gram) and measured in total body length (cm) then sex was identified based on macroscopic characteristics of gonads. The results showed that the sex ratio of N. orientalis was 1.4 : 1. Length growth value (K) of male and female N. orientalis are 0.0285 and 0.0233, respectively, which show a slow growth time to reach the asymptotic length (K≤ 0.5). Based on the analysis of the relationship between length and weight, the results show that b value are 1.9394 and 2.2023 in male and female N. orientalis, respectively, which means length growth rate faster than weight growth (b< 3, negative allometric). N. orientalis are included in the category of flat (thin) fish with condition factor values ranging from 0.2462-3.9227. The total, natural, and fishing mortality rate were 0.395, 0.177, and 0.218, respectively. The exploitation rate is 0.551 where the value has exceeded the optimum value 0.5, which means that N. orientalis landed at the PPN Brondong, Lamongan has indicated overfishing caused by excessive fishing activity.

Abstract

The use of bacteria in improving the quality of salt on a laboratory scale is still minimal. Bacteria are found in seawater as raw materials for various types of salt. One of the bacteria that are tolerant to salinity levels in raw saltwater is halophilic bacteria. Exploration of halophilic bacteria isolates contained in seawater as raw material for salt is an effort to provide initial information on the use of these bacteria in improving the quality and quality of salt. This study aims to determine the morphological characteristics and gram grouping of halophilic bacteria contained in raw water, reservoir water, and evaporator water during the traditional salt production process. The methods used in this study were bacterial isolation, purification, and gram staining test. Morphological characteristics were carried out by visual observation of bacterial colonies formed in Petri dishes, while the gram test of bacteria was carried out by staining pure isolates. Morphological characteristics and groupings of gram bacteria were observed under a CX43RF binocular microscope with a digital camera type MDCE-5C. The results of this study found 2 isolates circular in raw saltwater, 5 isolates in irregular, filamentous and circular shapes in reservoir water, and 3 isolates in circular and filamentous shape in purification water. The bacterial isolates found varied in the form of groups of gram-negative bacteria and groups of positive bacteria, while the predominant form of bacteria was bacilli. The results of this study are expected to be initial information that can be used as a reference to improve the quality and quantity of salt production.

Abstract

Gresik Regency is one of the industrial development areas in East Java Province due to its strategic location. This region has the opportunity to actively integrate the ecosystem into development planning. Management of integrated coastal areas is widely advocated at all levels of government as a means of delivering sustainable development in coastal areas. This study was conducted to determine the level of impact caused by each activity cumulatively on coastal and marine ecosystems in Gresik Regency. In general, this study is oriented towards collecting data of marine pollution level from various substances and sources, as well as changes over time in the status of the marine environment in Gresik Regency. The results showed that the increase in population growth accompanied by an increase in the amount of waste, as well as an increase in industry, port and agricultural activities in coastal areas of Gresik Regency require special attention in the management of the coastal and marine environment in Gresik Regency. The use of coastal and marine areas of Gresik Regency can lead to loss of biodiversity, as well as decreased stability and resilience of ecosystems in coastal and marine areas. It is necessary to take into account the pressures and impacts due to activities in coastal and marine areas and then propose the most appropriate development solutions within the framework of Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Gresik Regency.
