Abstract

Kenjerann Beach is one of the beaches in Surabaya, which is located in the Bulakbull sub-district of Kenjeran which has a tourist attraction and is very beneficial for the community around the coast. The Kenjeran coast has potential biological resources such as marine biota and intervertebrate animals. This research aims to produce preserved invertebrates using bioplastic techniques and to increase knowledge and economic value of Kenjeran Beach. The research was carried out in two stages. The first stage is field observation to collect biota on the Kenjeran coast. The second step is the development of preservation technology, namely bioplastics. The model used in this research is at the implementation and testing stage. The results of these observations found 3 families of invertebrates that were used as materials and made it possible to preserve them. And these preserves can be used as accessories or decorations and other trinkets as business opportunities.

Abstract

Education is a crucial aspect in creating high-quality human resources. The appropriate learning model, such as Discovery Learning, plays a vital role in enhancing student learning outcomes, particularly in Biology at the high school level. Discovery Learning emphasizes the process of concept discovery by students through active learning activities, helping them build knowledge independently and meaningfully. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model in improving high school biology learning outcomes through a systematic literature review using the PRISMA method. The analysis of seven articles that met the criteria shows that Discovery Learning significantly enhances high school students' biology learning outcomes. These findings highlight the effectiveness of Discovery Learning in deepening students' understanding of biological concepts and increasing their motivation.

Abstract

Grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) is amongst the well-known fruits around the world. They are not only admire due to nutraceutical and extraordinary  properties but also for the multiple uses, viz, wines, juices, raisins and fresh consumption, along with side uses as in medicines and molasses etc. The modern world is facing problems of climate change, water shortage, land limitations and multiple fold increase in population. In order to meet the needs of the ever-increasing human population, intensive cultivation with limited resources is vital. Greenhouse cultivation is one of the best options for production of delicate fruits like grapes, having specific environmental requirements for giving bumper commercial crop. Precision viticulture, adopted under greenhouse conditions helps in improving the quality and quantity of produce, without compromising environmental and economic aspects. Smart choice of rootstock, efficient irrigation method, justified pruning and training of vines, timely application of just the right amount of nutrients, proper management of growth media, temperature and humidity control according to the needs of the particular growth stages of plant and controlled pollination can make possible the availability of out of season crop. This system also provides opportunities for agrotourism and a more controlled environment for future research. Installment of greenhouse demands a lot of investment both in terms of money and expertise but once established, the returns are multiple fold compared to the early investment.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect type of packaging material and storage time on microbial Total Plate Count on the shrimp paste chili sauce, a completely randomized design (RAL) of two factorial was used in this research. The first factor was the type of storage material consisting of plastic bottles (A1) and glass bottles (A2). The second factor was the length of storage consisting of 5 days (H1), 10 days (H2) and 15 days (H3). From the two factors, 6 combinations of treatments were obtained, and each treatment combination was repeated 4 times, so the total was 24 samples. The results of the research were analyzed using variance at a realistic level of 5%, if significantly different then continued with the Duncan test. The results showed that the type of packaging and storage time had a significantly different effect on the parameters of the microbial Total Plate Count on the shrimp paste chili sauce (p<0.05). Based on the results, it is known that the use of glass bottle packaging (A2) has a better ability to maintain the quality of shrimp paste sauce. Referring to the SNI standard (01 - 7388 - 2009), the best storage time for shrimp paste sauce is 10 days (H2), with an average microbial Total Plate count that is still within the normal range of 4.0 x 104 CFU/g < 1 x 105 CFU/g. The implication of this research is that the use of glass bottle packaging materials is able to maintain the quality of shrimp paste sauce better than plastic bottles and the best storage time for the shrimp chili paste is 10 days.

Abstract

This research paper presents a case study analysis of the experiences of master's degree students during online classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on participants from Butwal, Nepal and various other regions. The study involved interviews with ten students and five teachers who actively engaged in online learning during this period. The findings reveal that the COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact, leading to widespread disruptions, including significant economic challenges that continue to affect many nations. The pandemic altered nearly every aspect of human life, bringing about substantial changes in people's lifestyles. The study highlights that a majority of students encountered difficulties related to internet connectivity, which hindered their ability to participate in classes effectively and grasp key concepts. Moreover, many students reported lack of adequate knowledge of online learning tools, further complicating their educational experience. Similarly, teachers reported facing challenges in managing online classes, primarily due to issues with internet connectivity. The insights gained from this study underscore the need for enhancing teachers' technical proficiency and call for improved regulation of internet and electricity services to better support online education in future crises.

Abstract

Biocodicology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, archaeology, and information science to study ancient manuscripts. This paper explores how biological analysis, including DNA and protein analysis, combined with advanced imaging techniques such as Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), Multispectral Imaging (MSI), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, offers new insights into the origins, production, and preservation of historical manuscripts. DNA extraction and protein analysis reveal the biological origins of the materials, while non-invasive physicochemical methods uncover the chemical composition of inks and pigments. The integration of bioinformatics and machine learning tools provides a holistic understanding of manuscript production techniques and environmental conditions. These methodologies contribute significantly to the study of historical manuscripts and inform strategies for their conservation and preservation.
