Abstract

This study examined the application of education law as determinant of principals’ personnel management effectiveness in public secondary schools in Imo State. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises 5,286 teachers of public secondary schools in Imo State. Random sampling technique was used to select 134 (48 males and 86 females) principals while multistage random sampling technique was used to draw 529 teachers made up of 89 males and 440 females. The instrument was structured by the researchers and named “Application Education Law as Determinant of Principals’ Personnel Management Effectiveness Questionnaire” (AELDPPMEQ).  The instrument was validated by three experts, two from the Department of Educational Management and policy while one from the Department of Educational Foundation. The reliability of the instrument was obtained through Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient with index value of 0.82 which was considered high enough for the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test was used test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The finding of the study among others was that principals of schools in the study area to a high extent apply education law in their personnel management practices. It was then recommended that government should encourage principals to apply education law to make for their personnel management effectiveness.

Abstract

Reasoning is needed by students to solve trigonometry problems that are considered difficult to solve. So, the researcher conducted a study to determine students' mathematical reasoning skills in solving trigonometric problems. This type of research is descriptive research with qualitative methods. The subjects of this study were 3 students of class XII in one of the senior high schools in North Central Timor district. Data collection techniques were test questions and interviews. From the results of the study, it was concluded that high category mathematical reasoning ability was able to fulfill 4 reasoning indicators, medium category mathematical reasoning ability was able to fulfill 2 reasoning indicators, while low category reasoning ability only fulfilled 1 reasoning ability indicator.

Abstract

Preparing student-teachers to become globally competitive, productive and resilient K-12 educators in the future was a herculean task. Adding pressure to their academic life was the reality that some simultaneously performed various roles and responsibilities. With that insight, the primordial intention of the study is to explore the lived experiences of student-teachers regarding the academic-life balance in single motherhood and parenting pariahs as a baseline for the development of a model for a well-balanced life for student-teachers. The study utilizes the phenomenological design of qualitative research, specifically the DPA (Descriptive Phenomenological Analysis) to six female student-teachers who are selected using the stratified sampling technique from the College of Education (COEd) of the BPSU-Balanga Campus, Philippines. The qualitative data are gathered using the semi-structured interview guide wherein the data are treated using the DPA model proposed by Edmund Husserl. Results indicate that first-time teenage parents face diverse challenges, adapting to parenthood while temporarily adjusting educational and career goals. The pandemic accentuates economic instability, diverse income sources, homeschooling struggles, difficult decisions, and mental health impacts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relevance of using photography in Tanzanian Pre-Primary Education learning context. Experience showed that pre-primary teachers lacked knowledge of the importance of photography in teaching and learning to young children. Constructivism theory underpinned the study. As young children learn by using photography, they experience the world and reflect upon those experiences. So, they build their own representations and incorporate new information into their pre-existing knowledge. This qualitative study employs a case study design. A total of 24 study informants participated in the study; 11 were males and 13 were females, whereby 18 were pre-primary children and six (06) were pre-primary teachers. Data were collected through interviews; classroom observation and documentary reviews where thematic analysis were conducted using various constructs. The study revealed that using photography as teaching approach made classroom active, it enables children to develop their own ideas, creativity, inquisitiveness, and well engaged. Thus, enhancing their own interpersonal skills while at the same time enquiring the authenticity and relevance of the concepts at hand. The situation was different from what happened before teaching by using photography where children were passive and take in information from teachers. The study recommends that teaching and learning through photography as an approach should be integrated in the pre-primary curriculum. Also, government policy makers should take into consideration the use of photography in schools to enhance teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of instructional aids in secondary schools in Tanzania, focusing on their challenges and opportunities on the teaching and learning process. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected from 100 students and 25 teachers in five randomly selected secondary schools in Mbeya. The findings highlight significant underutilization of instructional materials, with traditional tools dominating and modern technological aids largely neglected due to limited resources, inadequate classroom conditions, and insufficient teacher training. The study underscores the transformative potential of instructional aids in enhancing memory retention, concept comprehension, and student engagement. It calls for increased investment in modern instructional resources, targeted teacher training, and improved classroom infrastructure to bridge the gaps and optimize educational outcomes. These findings contribute to academic discourse on resource optimization in education and inform policies aimed at improving instructional practices in Tanzanian secondary schools.
