Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the educational process at all levels globally. Educational activities that originally took place in face-to-face activities have turned into online or network activities. This online activity also has a great influence on the ability to educate and teach teachers and students practicing School Field Introduction programs. This study aims to determine (1) the Supervising Teacher's perception of the implementation of the Online School Field Introduction Program for English Education Undergraduate students and (2) the Supervising Teacher's perception of the student's pedagogical competence during School Field Introduction programs for English Education Undergraduate students. There are 8 Junior High Schools (SMP), 7 Senior High Schools (SMA), and 2 Vocational High Schools (SMK) which are the venues for the event. This study uses a descriptive method where the researcher provides a detailed description of the perception of the supervising teacher on the implementation of the online school field introduction program and the student's pedagogical ability in the activity. The results showed that the implementation of the Online School Field Introduction Program was going well and the students' pedagogical abilities still needed to be improved in teaching and learning activities. This is evidenced by positive perceptions of campus communication points (80%), coordination and debriefing activities (86%), drop-off and withdrawal activities (82%), the mentoring process (81%), and the reporting process (80%) of a total of 50 supervising teachers as respondents. Meanwhile, in terms of students' pedagogical abilities, neutral perceptions are found in the understanding students (74%), development of high school students' potentials (70%), and understanding the educational foundation for the benefit of learning (72%). However, negative perceptions are centered on the designing and implementing learning (56%) as well as the designing and implementing evaluation (54%).

Abstract

Recent decades Pecha Kucha has gained its acknowledgement as one of the language teaching tools. This research aimed at finding out the tertiary students’ attitude towards the use of Pecha Kucha in English introduction lessons and identifying difficulties that were experienced by the students in the process of making and presenting their Pecha Kucha. Survey method with two types of questions, multiple choices and open ended questions, were employed. The result of the study indicated that students had positive attitude to use Pecha Kucha in English introduction lessons because they believe that Pecha Kucha can facilitate their learning and also they enjoyed the making and presenting their Pecha Kucha. Students experience different challenges in the making and presentation process of their Pecha Kucha. The making process students highlight 5 challenges, finding pictures, gadgets, narration, English, and presentation skills, whereas there are 6 challenges students encounter during their presentation time, English skills, unstable connection, self-confidence, time constrain of Pecha Kucha, memorizing their presentation, and internet data. The different challenges in the making and presentation of PK are justifiable due to the unique nature of the two processes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify students' inaccuracies in writing English abstracts, specifically the frequency and types of errors that frequently occur. This study took a qualitative descriptive method. The data for this study were acquired from a thesis in the English Literature Study Program environment in the form of English abstract writing. The sample in this study was chosen at random. The collected data was subsequently analyzed using descriptive analytic techniques. The study results showed that there are various errors in writing abstract, which are classified into several types of errors, such misformation, omissions, additions, and disordering. According to the findings of this study, misformation is a type of error that is frequently observed in student writing.

Abstract

Purpose of the of this social service was (1) to enhance students understanding about kinds of qualitative research method; (2) To enhance students understanding about kind of research variable; and (3) to give a better solution for students who have problems in finishing their study during pandemic time. The method used in this program were lecturing, focus group discussion and consultation. Firstly, all the team delivered material to students about kinds of variable and research method also some problems that probably faced by students in conducting research during pandemics and how to overcome those problems. This meeting was conducted twice. After this meeting, we conducted focus group discussion about kind of research method and variable which are appropriate to pandemic situation. And last, they can consult to team about variable and research method. Based on the social services being conducted, it was found that students still got difficulties in choosing research method and variable, and by taking this program their can solve those problem and finally they can formulate title as well as research design which is suitable with pandemic situation. All of them choos qualitative research as the research method and online learning as the variable of the research. The novelty of this article shown at the new topic being discuss since it was happening and new phenomena in university education. Hopefully, the result of this study can be one of references for students who want to finish their study effectively in this pandemic time or in online learning.

Abstract

The language in our daily lives has many kinds of variation. One of those variations is sociolect. Sociolect is language variation related with social and culture. The uniqueness of this research is Minang Language phenomenon used by Surau Lauik society when do the conversations with friends, so the language used is not accordance with the Minang standard. This research aims to identify the types of sociolect language variation used by Surau Lauik society in Panampuang village of Ampek Angkek and the most language variation used by Surau Lauik society. In this research, the writer used qualitative-descriptive method with ethnographic design. The method used to collect data is observation, recording, and transcription. Based on the result of the analysis and discussion, this study shows that sociolect that found in Surau Lauik society are colloquial, slang, jargon, vulgar, and argot. The Most of sociolect language variation found in the data conversation is vulgar, vulgar tends to negative and disrespectful. Vulgar spoken by Surau Lauik society aged 20-30 years and used in unformal situation.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to improve Student’s Speaking Ability by Using Role Play of The Second Year Student at SMP Negeri Satap Nian in the School Year 2021/2022. This research was categorized into class action research (CAR). The steps of the research were, planning, action, observation and reflection. The data were in the form of quantitative data. The participants of this research were second grade students at SMP Negeri Satap Nian. The total was 20 students chosen as the subject. There were two types of instruments that were used in this study, a test and non-test. The test instruments included the pre-test and post-test. Non-test instruments include interview guidelines and observation checklist. The result of this research showed that role play significantly improve the students speaking ability. It was proven by the mean score of each test. It can be seen from the mean score of the students in pre-test got 57.65 to 74.85 in posttest. The gained score between the mean of pre-test and post-test was 17,2. It indicated that the student’s achievement was satisfactory enough. The post-test score was better than pre-test score. Based on the result of this research, the researcher signified at using role play a better result in students’ speaking ability.
