Abstract

This study examines the progressive Islamic hermeneutics of Fazlur Rahman and Khaled M. Abou El Fadl, focusing on their methodologies in interpreting the Qur'an. The background highlights the necessity for contemporary Islamic thought to address modern challenges while remaining rooted in authentic tradition. The research objectives are to compare and contrast Rahman's and Abou El Fadl's interpretative frameworks, identifying key similarities and differences in their approaches. Using a comparative analysis methodology, this research delves into their respective hermeneutical principles, the socio-historical context of their interpretations, and the application of their processes to specific Qur'anic texts. The results showed that both scholars emphasize contextual understanding and ethical considerations; Rahman advocates a double movement theory and historical contextualization, whereas Abou El Fadl focuses on the moral trajectory of the text and interpretive pluralism. The conclusion suggests that integrating the insights from both methodologies can offer a more nuanced and adaptable approach to contemporary Qur'anic interpretation, contributing significantly to progressive Islamic thought.

Abstract

This study discusses the importance of reforestation as one of the environmental conservation options from the perspective of the Qur'an. The global environmental crisis, including deforestation, climate change, and ecosystem degradation, has had a significant negative impact on human life and the sustainability of nature. With a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature, this study explores the theological values contained in the Qur'an, such as human responsibility as caliphs on earth, the importance of maintaining the balance of nature, and the prohibition of damaging the environment. The results of the study indicate that reforestation is not only an ecological action, but also part of worship that reflects human obedience to Allah SWT. Reforestation provides ecological benefits in the form of improving the carbon cycle, preventing erosion, and increasing biodiversity, while supporting the social and economic sustainability of the community. By integrating Islamic spiritual values, reforestation becomes a real step in maintaining the sustainability of nature, improving human relations with the environment, and fulfilling the divine mandate to maintain the earth as a blessing for all living things. This study emphasizes that reforestation is a strategic solution that combines ecological and theological approaches, so that it can be a foundation for building sustainable environmental awareness rooted in religious values.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of multicultural curricula on students' tolerance and global awareness in Indonesia. As a country characterized by rich cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity, Indonesia requires a strong multicultural education framework to foster an inclusive and harmonious society. Adopting a literature review approach, this research examines academic sources, policy documents, and educational reports published in the last decade to ensure relevance and accuracy. Data collection was conducted through an extensive literature search across various academic databases, including Google Scholar, JSTOR, ProQuest, and Scopus, as well as local sources discussing the implementation of multicultural education policies and the challenges faced by schools in Indonesia. The collected data was analyzed qualitatively using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings reveal that multicultural curricula play a significant role in enhancing students' understanding of cultural diversity and instilling values of tolerance and social justice. However, challenges remain in its implementation, particularly due to teachers' limited understanding of multicultural education and insufficient policy support. To address these issues, stronger efforts from the government and educational institutions are necessary, including comprehensive teacher training programs and the development of clear, practical guidelines for multicultural education. This study contributes to the advancement of inclusive educational policies aimed at preparing students to navigate global challenges in an increasingly interconnected world.

Abstract

In line with the objectives of education in Indonesia, which seek Knowledge, among others, to form noble morals, there are currently immoral acts committed by students both during education and after graduation. This happens since the education process does not emphasize the aspects of tazkiyah and ta'lim, namely the purification of goodness when seeking Knowledge. Thus, this study aims to determine the relationship between Tazkiyah and Ta'lim for the effectiveness of seeking Knowledge. The researcher employed a descriptive method in explaining the interpretation of the mufassir, then analyzed it to explain the context of the verse. It also used a study of taqdim and takhir to explain the change in the context of the verse on the words al-Tazkiyah and at-Ta'lim. The researcher concluded that tazkiyah is prioritized over Salim because it aligns with the purpose of the Prophet's sending to cleanse or remove humanity from error. The prioritization of tazkiyah over ta'lim shows that before an individual receives Knowledge, the individual should purify by maintaining good intentions and actions before receiving Knowledge since Tazkiyah Nafs can give peace of mind so that it will make it easier to receive Knowledge. Therefore, it is appropriate for students of knowledge to purify their intentions and actions before acquiring knowledge.

Abstract

Students enrolled in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program are trained to become professional teachers capable of teaching all branches of PAI subjects in schools and madrasahs, including Islamic Cultural History (SKI). The SKI Learning System in Madrasahs course aims to equip students with pedagogical competencies in teaching SKI. However, the limited availability of adequate teaching materials and learning resources poses a challenge in this learning process. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of the Encyclopedia of Islamic History, compiled by the Research and Islamic Studies Team of Egypt, as a supplementary book for the Islamic Cultural History textbook published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2020. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data collection techniques include literature review and documentation, while data analysis is conducted using a descriptive-interpretative method. The findings indicate that the Encyclopedia of Islamic History is suitable as a supplementary book for SKI learning. This book explores Islamic culture from a historical perspective and shares similarities in content with 15 out of 20 chapters in the Ministry of Religious Affairs textbook. Therefore, it serves as an effective reference for SKI teachers and prospective PAI educators, including fourth-semester students at STAI Al-Hidayah Bogor.
