Abstract

This study is grounded in the widening gap between the rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence in education and the scarcity of research linking this phenomenon to the normative foundation of the Qur’an. It aims to analyze the content of QS. Al-‘Alaq verses 1–5, identify its relevance to generative AI practices, and formulate an ethical framework rooted in Qur’anic values. This qualitative library research draws on primary sources, namely the Qur’an and classical exegeses, and secondary sources from recent scholarly articles, analyzed through content analysis combined with thematic exegesis. The findings reveal that the verses affirm divine accountability, epistemic humility, and responsible use of learning tools. Generative AI proves beneficial for learning yet remains epistemologically limited, precluding it from replacing human interpretive authority. The study formulates an ethical framework grounded in ihsan and amanah as guidance for the responsible integration of AI within Islamic education.
