Abstract

Malaysia boasts the highest number of IP addresses dedicated to uploading and downloading child pornography in Southeast Asia, as highlighted by Assistant Commissioner Ong Chin Lan during the "Cyber Protection for Children" seminar in 2018. This revelation spurred researchers to deliver intervention lectures on the perils of pornography across various schools in Perlis. In total, 1191 questionnaires were dispersed among students to explore the factors and impacts of their exposure to pornography and gauge their response to the lectures. Analysis of the questionnaire data using SPSS 2.2 software revealed that 80.6% of students were engaged with pornography, with 43.6% accessing it via the internet/pop-ups, 24.5% through television/movies, and the remainder from magazines/anime and smartphone applications. Most students admitted to consuming pornographic material alone, attributing their behavior to curiosity and arousal. Consequently, researchers emphasize the importance of proactive parental monitoring and advocate for schools to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in organizing additional intervention programs. Such initiatives aim to mitigate students' exposure to pornography and counteract its adverse effects effectively.

Abstract

This study purpose to examine the factors influencing consumer attitudes towards the branding of halal products, with a focus on knowledge about halal products, health as a priority, and the role of the halal logo in influencing consumer attitudes towards purchasing Ayam Bismi. A mixed-method approach is used in this study, involving a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Document analysis of surveys and observations is employed to obtain the study's findings. Overall, the study found that the halal logo has a significant positive relationship with consumer attitudes towards the intention to purchase halal products, especially Ayam Bismi. The halal logo is identified as a crucial factor in influencing consumer attitudes towards halal products, helping to reduce doubts about the halal status of the product. The study's findings indicate a positive relationship among all examined factors, providing evidence that the presence of the halal logo has a positive influence on consumer attitudes and purchase intentions

Abstract

The Academic Advisory System (SPAk) serves as a profession towards the formation of knowledgeable, responsible, capable and competitive students in shaping students with superior personality. This study aims to analyze students' involvement and assessment of the Academic Advisory System at Polytechnic Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (POLIMAS) during session 2 2022/2023 and session 1 2023/2024. Researchers have selected respondents among the students of the Department of Commerce which is 737 students for session 2 2022/2023 and 840 students for session 1 2023/2024 for this study. The study paper uses the Polytechnic Information Management System (SPMP) which is a platform to record various information related to students throughout the semester. The study on the effectiveness of the Academic Advisory System was conducted through the Academic Advisory Management (iPAd) menu found in SPMP. This study is a quantitative study that uses descriptive analysis to obtain frequency, percentage and mean values. The results of the study showed that the involvement of students in answering questions related to the role of academic advisors and the Academic Advisory System played an important role in the success of this study. The overall mean score value of academic advisory roles and the Academic Advisory System is above 3.70. In conclusion, the Academic Advisory System is indispensable in shaping students in terms of superior personality and excellent academics. This system is a systemic and structured service to connect students holistically and equip students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to make decisions related to education and career planning of students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the factors influencing the academic achievement of students in the Diploma in Building Services Engineering course at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Polytechnic. The identified factors include attitudes, interests, and teaching methods of lecturers in the classroom. The study involved 40 respondents comprising fifth-semester students. The research instrument used was a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 20 to obtain frequency values, percentage means, and standard deviations. The Cronbach's alpha value obtained was 0.88. The study found that the highest mean score for the factors influencing student achievement was lecturer teaching (mean score = 4.37) in the classroom. This was followed by student attitudes (mean score 4.34), and the last factor was student interest with a score of 4.27. In conclusion, all the factors studied showed a significant relationship in influencing the academic achievement of students in the engineering course. However, improvement measures should be implemented to ensure the continued excellence in students' academic performance.

Abstract

Microsoft Office Excel is one of the software for Computer Application. Computer Application is a course that exposes participants to the skills of using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook software. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) is an internationally recognized professional certification. This study was conducted to measure the effectiveness of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel Course for 30 participants consisting of lecturers from Politeknik Merlimau. The course was conducted for 5 days for lecturers from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, and Department of Mathematics and Science at Politeknik Merlimau. Data based on questionnaires given to all participants showed an increase in understanding before and after the course. This quantitative study was conducted by comparing data before and after the course. The program's achievement is evaluated based on the results of the MOS Examination, which uses a practical project-based assessment method with a 50-minute answering time. The results of the data comparison show that 8% of lecturers scored full marks, i.e., 1000, 60% of lecturers scored above 950, and 13% of lecturers scored below 950. Candidates who have passed the MOS examination will receive a professional certificate from Microsoft Corporation. The professional certificate is important for the competence of lecturers and also helps in improving the talent empowerment Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the polytechnic. This study is expected to be evidence of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) in helping to improve participant achievement and continuous programs for the Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Course.

Abstract

Work-based learning (WBL) is an educational approach that integrates theoretical knowledge and work experience in the industry, preparing students with relevant skills to enter an increasingly complex job market. The success of the work-based learning approach in producing skilled workforce cannot be denied. The involvement of industries plays a crucial role in ensuring that work-based learning is continuous and sustainable. Industries are not only involved at the initial stage or during the formation of WBL education programs but also continue to contribute and support throughout the learning period and even after students graduate from Polytechnics. Therefore, a study has been conducted to measure the level of industry involvement in the sustainability of the implementation of work-based learning (WBL) in Malaysian Polytechnics. Industry involvement in the context of this study is measured based on four factors: governance, organizational motivation, facilities, and curriculum understanding. This study was conducted using a quantitative research method where the respondents consisted of 91 WBL supervising lecturers. IBM SPSS version 26 was used to analyze the data of this study. The findings indicate that the level of industry involvement in the sustainability of the WBL approach in polytechnics is high.

Abstract

The design of accessible public facilities for persons with disabilities (PWD) is crucial, especially in recreational park areas. This aligns with sustainable urban and community planning goals, which aim to provide well-being for all individuals without prejudice. The provision of PWD-friendly public facilities in recreational parks is often overlooked. This study aims to identify PWD's perceptions regarding the effectiveness of the design of PWD-friendly recreational parks. The research methodology adopts a quantitative approach, involving 47 respondents. The findings indicate that the state of public facilities in the study area requires significant improvement and renovation to enhance comfort for users with disabilities. Recommendations for providing accessible facilities for PWD in the study area aim to improve accessibility and user comfort while upholding their social rights
