Abstract

This study holds significant implications as it analyzes financial performance in predicting bankruptcy in retail sector companies before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a part of the 3rd TKT measurement, providing a comprehensive analytical and experimental understanding. Financial performance is gauged through the Current Ratio (CR), debt-to-equity ratio (DER), and Return on Assets (ROA). The research method employed is a quantitative approach. By using the purposive sampling method, a sample of 22 companies was obtained, with 2 years of observation before the Covid-19 pandemic and 2 years during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research findings reveal that the CR and ROA variables had a positive effect on financial distress, while the DER variable did not affect financial distress. Furthermore, the study concludes that there was no difference in the potential for financial distress before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a unique and intriguing perspective on the impact of the pandemic on the retail sector.

Abstract

Despite ongoing macroeconomic reform and liberalization measures, inflation remains a critical and persistent problem in Ethiopia. Persistent inflation poses a grave threat to the country's status and economic stability. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the macroeconomic factors driving inflation in Ethiopia employing the ARDL model using annual data for the period 2012–2023. The NBE, EEA, IMF, and WB provided the macroeconomic variable data. The unit root test was employed to determine the variables’ order of integration and ADF and PP tests revealed that all series are non-stationary while stationary at the first difference. The study's findings indicated that money supply growth, import value to GDP ratio, budget deficit, and public expenditure all have a positive and statistically significant impact on inflation in both the long and short run. Lending interest rates, which are inflationary in the short run, have a deflationary effect in the long run. On the other hand, the external debt to GDP ratio, official exchange rate, and growth rate of real GDP are found to have significant negative effects on inflation in the long run. In the short run, the external debt-to-GDP ratio has a negative but insignificant impact on the determinates of inflation. Meanwhile, the real domestic product's growth rate significantly lowers inflation in the short run. The study recommends that a broad money supply is to be controlled and gross national saving is to be encouraged to reduce inflation in the country.

Although a great number of studies had been done on the concept of quality management in higher education, none had been done within the context of higher education institute that are affiliated under National University in Bangladesh, the case of the Institute of Science and Technology (IST). There was need therefore for a study to be carried out focusing on the IST’s academic services in conjunction with the main QM features. A survey on 36 academic and administrative employees using random sampling were carried out and prepared by SPSS software to find the central tendency and dispersion as well as reliability test was carried out. Collected data were analyzed using Likert Scale (5 point rating scale). From the findings one can conclude that, based on the objectives of the study; Firstly, Institute of Science and Technology has applied quality management to an average extent that is appropriate to its purpose. IST should implement policies and practices to implement quality management to great extent and remove the status quo to be supportive to any formulation of new ideas in order to respond to an ever-changing environment in H.E. Crucially further research should be done to determine how Quality management can contribute to organizational financial performance and customer satisfaction and establish a conceptual model pertinent to the culture and environment of H.E. in Bangladesh.
