Abstract

This article examines the relevance of character education for youth in the digital age, particularly amidst the challenges posed by technological advancement, globalization, and rapid social change. Grounded in the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit by Pope Francis, this study analyzes the Church’s strategic response in guiding the younger generation to use technology wisely while remaining firmly rooted in Christian faith and values. Employing the pastoral methodology of "See, Judge, Act" (Observe, Judge, Act), this paper explores the digital realities faced by young people, evaluates these socio-technological challenges through a theological lens, and proposes concrete pastoral initiatives to nurture their moral and faith development. Furthermore, the findings underscore the vital collaborative roles of the family, ecclesiastical communities, and Catholic educational institutions in character formation. Ultimately, this article advocates for presenting Jesus Christ as the ultimate role model and companion for youth navigating the complexities of the modern world.

Abstract

This paper discusses the theological and pastoral meaning of the pericope of Matthew 4:18–22 concerning the calling of the first disciples, with a focus on the dynamics of discipleship as a divine calling that demands a total human response. Through a hermeneutical approach that includes textual-narrative, socio-historical, and contextual analysis, the paper shows that the initiative of the call comes entirely from Jesus, while the disciples’ response is manifested in immediate and radical obedience. The Galilean setting, the world of fishermen, and the socio-economic structures of the first century reveal that Jesus calls ordinary people in the midst of their work, not on the basis of religious criteria or social status. This calling not only marks the beginning of the community of disciples but also reveals the identity of disciples as co-workers in the mission of the Kingdom of God. By leaving their nets, boats, and family ties, the disciples reorder their life priorities under the sovereignty of God. The paper affirms that discipleship does not always mean abandoning one’s profession, but rather requires a transformation of loyalty and orientation in life. Thus, this pericope remains relevant to the context of the contemporary Church, especially in understanding the Christian vocation, including the priestly vocation, as an ongoing process of transformation rooted in a relationship with Christ and active participation in His salvific mission.

Abstract

This article examines the passage of the Rich Young Man (Matthew 19:16–26) through a hermeneutic approach in order to discover the meaning of the biblical text for the life of faith. This study places the passage within the context of the authorship and structure of the Gospel of Matthew, particularly within the context of Jesus' journey to Jerusalem as a phase of discipleship formation. The method used is qualitative interpretation, combining historical-theological analysis and contextual reading through psychological, pastoral, and social approaches. The results of the study indicate that the core message of this passage lies in the call to perfection (teleios), which is not understood as legalistic moral obedience, but rather as total and undivided surrender to God. Wealth is understood as a symbol of human attachment to a sense of security and self-identity that can hinder openness to God's grace. Thus, salvation is not the result of human effort, but rather a gift from God alone. This passage remains relevant to the modern context of humanity struggling with materialism and consumerism, and invites every disciple of Christ to live out true discipleship in inner freedom, social solidarity, and complete trust in God.

Abstract

The healing of the blind man at Bethsaida (Mark 8:22–26) is a unique miracle narrative in the Gospel of Mark as it presents a gradual healing process. This article aims to holistically interpret the passage by integrating textual analysis, socio-historical context, and theological reflection. Through an exegetical approach, it demonstrates that this story occupies a vital narrative position as a transitional text preceding Peter's confession, while serving a symbolic function to portray the progressive enlightenment of the disciples' faith and spiritual blindness. The textual analysis highlights the two-stage healing structure, the use of symbolic language, the "Messianic Secret" motif, and the role of the community in bringing the blind man to Jesus, emphasizing faith as a communal experience. A study of the socio-historical context reveals Bethsaida as a simple fishing community with strong religious and social dynamics, indicating that this miracle impacted not only the individual but also the community's structure. From a theological perspective, the gradual healing is interpreted as a faith transformation process encompassing physical, spiritual, psychological, and social dimensions. Thus, Mark 8:22–26 is understood not merely as a miracle report, but as a theological laboratory affirming that faith is a progressive, communal, and transformative journey—offering lasting relevance for the Church in guiding believers toward a living, reflective faith.

Abstract

The passage of Mark 10:46-52 recounts the healing experienced by Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, which occurred as Jesus was approaching Jerusalem. This passage not only demonstrates the miracle of physical healing experienced by Bartimaeus but also contains profound theological and moral messages regarding faith, calling, and salvation. Through a hermeneutical approach utilizing narrative textual analysis alongside historical, social, and theological contextual examination, this paper interprets the dynamics of interaction among Jesus, Bartimaeus, and the crowd. Bartimaeus is portrayed as a figure of the poor and underprivileged who possesses steadfast faith, courage, and recognition of Jesus' identity as the Messiah. Jesus' response to Bartimaeus' cry reaffirms God's partiality toward those who are poor, suffering, marginalized, and destitute. Thus, this passage invites contemporary readers to reflect on a living faith, acts of compassion, and openness to God's saving work in daily life
