Abstract

Background: Undernutrition among toddlers remains a major public health problem in Indonesia because it affects child growth, development, and future human resource quality. Several factors related to undernutrition include maternal knowledge, maternal education, family support, and complementary feeding practices. Objective: To analyze factors associated with undernutrition among toddlers at Puskesmas Nelayan Gresik. Method: This study used an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 70 mothers who had toddlers aged 6–23 months. A total of 55 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Independent variables included maternal knowledge, maternal education, family support, and complementary feeding practices, while the dependent variable was toddler nutritional status. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed using ordinal regression with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Most respondents had poor knowledge (58.2%), secondary education level (78.2%), less supportive family support (45.5%), and adequate complementary feeding practices (58.2%). Statistical analysis showed that maternal knowledge (p = 0.000), family support (p = 0.010), and complementary feeding practices (p = 0.008) were significantly associated with undernutrition among toddlers. Maternal education was not significantly associated with undernutrition (p = 0.933). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge, family support, and complementary feeding practices were significantly associated with undernutrition among toddlers. Strengthening nutrition education and family involvement is recommended to prevent undernutrition.

Abstract

Background: Maternal readiness is an important factor influencing the smoothness of childbirth and reducing the risk of complications. One strategy to improve maternal readiness is through participation in antenatal classes. However, the level of active participation among pregnant women in such activities varies and may influence childbirth preparedness. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between participation in antenatal classes and childbirth preparedness among pregnant women in primary midwifery care settings. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with an analytic observational design using a cross-sectional method. The study was conducted in February 2026 at TPMB Bdn. Titik Nur Aini, S.Keb, Pasuruan Regency. The population consisted of 40 pregnant women attending antenatal classes, and 37 respondents who met the inclusion criteria were selected using total sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable structured questionnaires. Instrument validity testing showed all items were valid (r count > r table), while reliability testing obtained a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.82. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Most respondents actively participated in antenatal classes (64.9%) and were categorized as prepared for childbirth (64.9%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between participation in antenatal classes and childbirth preparedness (p=0.000). Conclusion: Active participation in antenatal classes is associated with better childbirth preparedness. Strengthening maternal education and family support is important to improve maternal readiness for labor.

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common reproductive health problems among adolescent girls and may interfere with daily activities, learning concentration, and psychological well-being. Non-pharmacological interventions such as dysmenorrhea exercise are considered effective in reducing menstrual pain and anxiety. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of dysmenorrhea exercise on reducing menstrual pain and anxiety among adolescent girls at MTs Al-Hidayah Wedoro. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 53 female students in grades VII and VIII at MTs Al-Hidayah Wedoro. A total of 15 respondents who experienced dysmenorrhea and met the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of dysmenorrhea exercise performed regularly during one menstrual cycle.  Menstrual pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), while anxiety levels were assessed using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The mean menstrual pain score decreased from 8.12 before intervention to 6.20 after intervention. The mean anxiety score decreased from 16.52 to 5.16 after intervention. Paired t-test analysis showed significant differences in menstrual pain (p=0.000) and anxiety levels (p=0.001) before and after dysmenorrhea exercise. Conclusion: Dysmenorrhea exercise is effective in reducing menstrual pain and anxiety levels among adolescent girls. Therefore, dysmenorrhea exercise can be recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention for adolescent reproductive health programs.

Abstract

Background: Physical activity among women of productive age plays an important role in maintaining physical and mental health as well as preventing non-communicable diseases. Objective: This study aimed to analyze physical activity patterns and perceptions regarding the health benefits of physical activity among women of productive age. Methods: This study employed a mixed-methods approach using a convergent parallel design. The quantitative phase used a cross-sectional approach, while the qualitative phase applied interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The study involved women aged 18–45 years living in Rungkut District, Surabaya. A total of 130 respondents participated in the quantitative phase using purposive sampling, while 20 respondents were involved in in-depth interviews during the qualitative phase. Physical activity was measured using a modified International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The questionnaire validity and reliability tests showed valid items with Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.84. Results: The results showed that most respondents frequently engaged in physical activity (73.18%) with predominantly light-intensity activities (56.92%). Respondents generally understood the health benefits of physical activity, including maintaining muscle health, controlling blood pressure, improving sleep quality, and maintaining mood stability. Chi-square analysis showed no significant relationship between the frequency of physical activity and respondents’ perceptions of health benefits (p>0.05). Qualitative findings revealed that respondents perceived daily activities such as house cleaning, walking, exercise, and yoga as forms of physical activity. Time constraints, fatigue, and busy daily schedules were identified as barriers to regular exercise. Conclusion: Most women of productive age demonstrated good awareness regarding the health benefits of physical activity, although this awareness was not significantly associated with the frequency of physical activity performed.
