Abstract

Mass media which initially provided various kinds of information now also play a role as a public sphere to provide criticism, ideas and concepts. One of them is the Lapor Pak! broadcast owned by the mass media Trans 7. Using Zulkifli Hasan roasting episode. The focus of this study: 1) To find out how the Lapor Pak! Trans 7 episode "Pedas! Kiky Roasting Zulkifli Hasan" program as a public sphere displays messages of social criticism. 2) To find out the critical discourse analysis of the Lapor Pak! Trans 7 episode "Pedas! Kiky Roasting Zulkifli Hasan" program as a public opinion. In the research, using qualitative descriptive research techniques with critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk. In descriptive research, it is more about various kinds of series of words, images, or documents so that without using data in the form of numbers. The conclusion is that: 1) Lapor Pak! in this case uses the scene roasting executed by Kiky Saputri to carry out social criticism in the public sphere. 2) Social criticism carried out by Kiky Saputri is intended to control social and political matters that are considered deviant by society.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of deviant social behavior in the film Dilan 1990 using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis. The research aims to explore the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings embedded in scenes that depict deviant behavior, particularly among adolescents. This is a qualitative-descriptive study employing semiotic analysis of visual and narrative elements in the film. The findings reveal that denotatively, Dilan’s behavior often violates norms of politeness and discipline; connotatively, these acts are interpreted as symbols of courage and youthful romance; while at the mythological level, the film constructs a patriarchal ideology that portrays dominant male figures as the romantic ideal. These findings suggest that popular films play a role in shaping social perceptions of deviant behavior and highlight the need for critical examination to prevent normalization of actions that contradict societal values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of humor in religious communication within the Login podcast, particularly in discussions addressing sensitive interfaith issues. In this context, humor is viewed not merely as entertainment but as a communication strategy capable of easing tension, creating spaces for dialogue, and fostering a sense of togetherness. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis theory to examine the discourse in episode thirty. The findings reveal that humor in the Login podcast is applied in a measured and contextual manner, effectively lightening the atmosphere, serving as an educational medium, dismantling stereotypes, promoting equality, and encouraging audiences to think more critically without undermining the sacred values of religion. Such use of humor proves effective in capturing the attention of younger generations and creating a more fluid and dialogical digital public sphere. Humor as an approach in religious communication in the digital era exemplifies how religion, media, and humor can synergize to build a peaceful and enlightening narrative of religiosity.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of Scrolling for Faith, where TikTok’s audiovisual format allows short videos to evoke empathy, spiritual reflection, and shifts in religious identity among young Muslim users. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach through interviews and observations, the research identifies three main findings. First, TikTok functions as an emotional and spiritual medium that can trigger religious contemplation through immersive content. Second, the platform serves as a space for identity negotiation, where users express and reshape their Islamic identity both online and offline. Third, TikTok fosters a sense of community and learning, as users feel supported by the Muslim TikTok network and motivated to improve their worship practices and daily habits, while also recognizing the importance of critical awareness to avoid misinformation. The study concludes that TikTok, beyond being a platform of entertainment, plays a significant role in empathy development and the dynamic construction of Islamic identity in the digital era.

Abstract

Kerukunan antar umat beragama merupakan hal yang diinginkan di berbagai tempat dan waktu. Komunikasi yang efektif menjadi kunci dalam kehidupan sosial manusia, terutama dalam konteks keberagaman budaya. Di Indonesia, kesadaran akan pentingnya toleransi dan penghargaan terhadap perbedaan agama menjadi fondasi bagi kerukunan antar umat beragama. Namun, beberapa daerah masih mengalami konflik agama. Di Desa Ngadisari, wilayah Gunung Bromo, terdapat kerukunan antara umat beragama Islam dan Hindu yang patut diteliti lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami pola komunikasi dan strategi yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Agama Islam dan Agama Hindu dalam menjaga kerukunan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat suku Tengger menggunakan pola komunikasi primer dan sirkuler untuk membangun solidaritas sosial. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam menciptakan kerukunan antara umat beragama adalah menghargai dan bersikap toleran, serta melalui berbagai kegiatan kemasyarakatan yang melibatkan kedua agama tersebut.

Abstract

Religious figures are people who have contributed to maintaining the smooth implementation of elections in a peaceful manner, namely as a unifier of the people not as a breaker of unity between people. The focus of this research is 1) What is the attitude of religious leaders towards communication and moderation in facing the potential for conflict in the run-up to the 2024 election among the people of Jember. 2) How are the efforts of religious leaders in dealing with the potential for conflict in the 2024 elections. 3) How is the communication pattern between religious leaders in reducing the potential for conflict ahead of the 2024 election. This research uses qualitative research methods that seek to find detailed data with data collection techniques obtained from interviews with religious leaders, observation and documentation. The results of this study led to a conclusion that religious leaders must be neutral, namely by being moderate because by applying a moderate attitude, religious leaders can become mediators when their people experience conflict, by providing enlightenment, tausiyah, and giving appeals as an effort to keep the elections running peacefully, with communication patterns carried out verbally or words.

Abstract

In the context of da'wah through social media, especially Instagram, has become an effective means for preachers to reach a wider audience. One example of a preacher actively using social media is Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus, who engages in da'wah actively through her personal Instagram account with the username @halimahalaydrus. The focus of this research is twofold: (1) to examine the communication style employed by Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus on Instagram, (2) to investigate the audience's response to the da'wah videos posted by Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus on Instagram. This research aims to understand the communication style used by Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus on Instagram and explore the audience's responses to her da'wah videos. The study adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, drawing on Kreitner & Knicki's theory that categorizes communication styles into Assertive, Aggressive, and Passive. The research employs virtual observation and documentation methods. Primary data is derived from two da'wah videos uploaded on the Instagram account @halimahalaydrus, while secondary data comes from literature such as books, journals, and online sources. The findings indicate that Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus tends to use an assertive communication style. The audience's responses to her da'wah videos encompass cognitive, affective, and conative dimensions.

Abstract

Political discourse, especially those using religious narratives such as ‘heaven’, plays an important role in shaping perceptions and legitimacy of regent candidates in Mesuji, and can influence voter support through emotional communication strategies. Critical discourse analysis is needed to understand how language and social context interact, as well as their impact on collective identity and social polarisation. This research aims to explore religious values in political campaigns and the role of digital media in the dissemination of such narratives. This research analyses the construction of the ‘heaven’ narrative in the campaign promises of Mesuji regent candidates through CNN Indonesia's digital media coverage, using a descriptive qualitative method, with linguistic and religious approaches. By applying Teun A. van Dijk's critical discourse analysis theory, this research explores the text structure and social context that influence the presentation of the narrative, and collects data from various primary and secondary sources. The results show that the discourse presented reflects the power and ideologies that exist in society, providing deep insight into how the narrative is shaped and accepted.

Abstract

Instagram has become an effective platform for spreading dakwah due to its large user base and easy accessibility. One of its innovations is the use of digital comics as a medium for dakwah. The Instagram account @pengenjadibaik is one such dakwah account that utilizes digital comics to convey religious and moral values in an engaging way, without being bound by space and time. The purpose of this research are to understand the presentation of digital comics as a dakwah medium on the @pengenjadibaik Instagram account and evaluate the effectiveness of this dakwah. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data is then analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The study concludes that: 1) The dakwah media through digital comics combines text and images that are interrelated. The meaning conveyed aligns with the purpose of creating the comics, which is to invite fellow Muslims to do good deeds and teach values in life. 2) The effectiveness of dakwah is evident from changes in followers, such as improved understanding (cognitive), positive interactions in the form of likes and motivation to migrate (affective), and actions that apply the dakwah message and share content (behavioral), indicating the success of dakwah through digital comics. Penelitian ini memperoleh kesimpulan 1) Media dakwah melalui komik digital menggabungkan teks dan gambar yang saling berhubungan. Makna yang terkandung sesuai dengan tujuan pembuatan komik, yaitu sebagai media untuk mengajak sesama muslim untuk berbuat baik dan mengajarkan nilai-nilai kehidupan. 2) Efektivitas dakwah terlihat dari perubahan pada pengikut, seperti peningkatan pemahaman (kognitif), interaksi positif berupa likes dan motivasi untuk hijrah (afektif), dan tindakan menerapkan pesan dakwah serta berbagi konten (behavioral), yang menunjukkan keberhasilan dakwah melalui komik digital.

Abstract

General elections in Indonesia, especially presidential elections, are always an event where political discourse expressed by candidates greatly influences the social and political dynamics of society. Prabowo Subianto, as one of the presidential candidates who participated in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 elections, has been consistent in conveying the main issues that are relevant to the nation's problems. In this context, an analysis of the discourse constructed by Prabowo Subianto is important to understand how his political message is received and developed in society. The focus of this thesis research is 1) What is the form of Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections? 2) What is the description of Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections? 3) How to interpret Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse using Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections? The objectives of this thesis research are 1) What is the form of Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections; 2) What is the description of Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections; 3) How to interpret Prabowo Subianto's political speech discourse using Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 presidential elections. The results of the study show that the discourse analysis of Prabowo Subianto's political speeches in the presidential candidate debates in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 presidential elections shows significant evolution in themes, contexts, and social cognitions that influence public acceptance of the speech. The text of the speech reflects a response to the changing social and political context, while the social cognition of society influences how the speech is received and interpreted. In Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis, text, context, and social cognition are interrelated and influence each other.
