Abstract

Background: Divorce is a significant life event that can have profound effects on children, particularly in their educational attainment. Previous research suggests that parental divorce can lead to various negative consequences, including psychological distress, social instability, and economic challenges. However, there is limited empirical evidence examining the impact of parental divorce on children's educational attainment in Indonesia. Methods: This study utilizes data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) waves 3, 4, and 5 to examine the educational outcomes of children with divorced parents compared to those with married parents. The analysis explores the relationship between parental divorce and children's educational attainment while considering potential influencing factors such as maternal characteristics and the possibility of reverse causality. Findings: The study found that children from divorced families generally had lower educational attainment than those from intact families. However, children whose parents were currently divorced had better educational outcomes than children whose parents remained married. This paradoxical finding suggests the influence of factors such as maternal education and potential reverse causality. Additionally, the study found that the age at which divorce occurs plays a crucial role divorce at an early age has a more negative impact on educational attainment due to children's higher dependency on parents and limited coping mechanisms. However, no significant differences were found between boys and girls in terms of educational outcomes after divorce. Conclusions: Parental divorce negatively impacts children's educational attainment, primarily due to economic hardship, changes in parenting roles, and psychological distress. However, some children from currently divorced families show better educational outcomes, possibly due to maternal characteristics and other mediating factors. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the impact of parental divorce on children's educational attainment in Indonesia, a context with limited prior research.

Abstract

Background: Lengger Lanang is a traditional dance art from Banyumas, Indonesia, performed at various cultural and social events, including baritan (ritual ceremonies to ward off disease), celebrations, and communal gatherings. Accompanied by sinden (traditional singers) and musical instruments, Lengger Lanang features songs with deep moral and philosophical messages. This study aims to analyze and describe these moral values to highlight their relevance in everyday life and their role in cultural preservation. Methods: This study employs an ethnographic approach, utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation to collect data. The research focuses on song lyrics performed in the Lengger Lanang art at the Lengger House Studio, Banyumas District. The analysis identifies moral education values within selected songs, including Eling-Eling, Ricik-Ricik, Bendrong Kulon, and Sekar Gadung. Findings: The study reveals that Lengger Lanang song lyrics serve not only as entertainment but also as an educational medium. The moral education values found in the lyrics include: Morality Towards God – Encouraging piety, patience, contentment (qana'ah), remembrance of God (dhikr), and positive thinking (husnudzan) toward divine will, as reflected in Eling-Eling and Sekar Gadung. Morality Towards Fellow Humans – Promoting respect for parents and teachers (Eling-Eling), cooperation and mutual support (Ricik-Ricik), trustworthiness (Bendrong Kulon stanza 2), and avoiding envy and resentment (Bendrong Kulon stanza 8). Conclusions: Lengger Lanang's song lyrics convey moral values that are highly relevant to daily life, offering guidance through expressions of wisdom, satire, and advice. The research emphasizes the importance of preserving and promoting Lengger Lanang as both a cultural heritage and a means of moral education. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study provides a unique perspective on Lengger Lanang by focusing on its song lyrics as a medium of moral education. While previous research has primarily examined Lengger as a performance art, this study highlights its role in imparting ethical values, reinforcing its cultural and educational significance.

Abstract

Background: The increasing prevalence of illegal online lending (pinjol) in Indonesia has raised concerns regarding its impact on students. Despite their status as educated individuals, many students face financial hardships that push them to seek alternative financial solutions, including illegal online loans. This research explores the factors leading students to use illegal online loans, the victimization process, and the long-term consequences on their academic and financial well-being. Methods: This study employs a qualitative research approach using a critical criminology framework to analyze the structural factors contributing to student victimization. Data were collected through structured interviews with seven students from different universities in Indonesia, all of whom had firsthand experience as illegal online loan users. Findings: Many students refrain from reporting their cases due to fear of social stigma, legal repercussions, and the perception that authorities may not take their complaints seriously. Students face financial strain due to tuition fees, living expenses, and societal expectations to be independent. Many are forced to seek quick financial solutions, leading them to illegal lending platforms. Victims often face intimidation and threats from debt collectors, including exposure of personal information. Conclusions: Illegal online loans create significant financial, psychological, and academic challenges for students. The exploitative nature of these loans exacerbates existing economic inequalities, forcing students into cycles of debt and distress. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study offers a new perspective on the role of financial stress and social expectations in student involvement with illegal online lending. Unlike previous research that focuses solely on digital lending regulation, this study examines the personal experiences of student borrowers and the structural factors contributing to their financial victimization. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and educators in developing preventive strategies to reduce student dependency on illegal online loans.

Abstract

Background: The Card Sort method, a student-centered active learning strategy, has been widely studied for its effectiveness in improving understanding and retention of information. This study investigates the impact of the Card Sort method on the learning outcomes of Fiqh students at MI Ma’arif NU 02 Bantarbarang Purbalingga. The research aims to determine whether the implementation of this method results in significant improvements compared to traditional teaching approaches. Methods: This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Nonequivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population consists of all sixth-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique selecting Class VI A as the experimental group and Class VI B as the control group. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests, and analyzed using simple linear regression and the Independent Sample T-Test in SPSS version 23. Findings: The results indicate that the Card Sort method significantly influences students’ Fiqh learning outcomes. The experimental group, which used the Card Sort method, achieved an average final test score of 79.40, while the control group, which relied on conventional methods, scored 75.40. Statistical tests show a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming the significant effect of the Card Sort method. Additionally, the T-Test results (t = 8.448 > 2.010) further support the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0), proving that the method enhances student learning outcomes. Conclusions: The study concludes that the Card Sort method effectively improves student learning outcomes compared to conventional methods in Fiqh education. Students in the experimental group demonstrated higher engagement, better understanding, and improved test performance. To further optimize learning outcomes, students should be encouraged to actively participate in class activities, while teachers should implement creative teaching strategies and diverse instructional media. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes to the field of active learning strategies in religious education, specifically in Fiqh learning, which has been less explored in previous studies.

Abstract

Background: Memorizing the Qur'an requires continuous support and strategic activities to enhance memorization quality. Sima’an al-Qur’an, a traditional recitation program, plays a vital role in reinforcing students’ (santri’s) hafalan (memorization). This study investigates how this activity is planned and executed, as well as the supporting and hindering factors in its implementation at Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School (PPTQ) Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted at PPTQ Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants included the pesantren’s leaders, mentors, and sima’an participants. The instruments used were interview guidelines, observation sheets, and documentation templates. Findings: The planning of the sima’an al-Qur’an activity is carried out systematically in three stages: surveying the venue and time, determining participants and readings, and preparing necessary facilities. The implementation follows a structured format with sessions for opening, recitation, breaks, and closing. Supporting factors include the commitment of organizers and participants, institutional support, and adequate facilities. In contrast, barriers include limited space, insufficient preparation, and interruptions from other activities. Conclusion: Sima’an al-Qur’an is effectively planned and implemented at PPTQ Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi and contributes significantly to improving santri’s memorization quality. The pesantren is encouraged to further optimize and expand the program to benefit more students. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides a detailed, practice-based account of how sima’an al-Qur’an activities enhance Qur’anic memorization in Islamic boarding schools. Its originality lies in highlighting both practical implementation and institutional strategies, offering a replicable model for other pesantren.
