Abstract

Dyspnea is a common symptom experienced by patients with respiratory disorders such as bronchopneumonia. The decrease in oxygen saturation due to dyspnea can interfere with the basic need to breathe normally. This study aims to determine the effect of nebulizer therapy on improving oxygen saturation in patients with dyspnea through the application of Virginia Henderson’s theory. The study employed a descriptive design with a case study approach involving two pediatric patients aged 7 and 8 years at Dr. M. Yunus General Hospital, Bengkulu. The intervention provided was nebulizer therapy administered three times a day for two consecutive days. After the nebulizer therapy was given, the results showed an increase in oxygen saturation from 90% to 96% in the first patient and from 91% to 97% in the second patient. These findings indicate that nebulizer therapy is effective in increasing oxygen saturation and in fulfilling the basic need for breathing as described in Virginia Henderson’s theory. This theory-based nursing approach has been shown to make a positive contribution to nursing care for patients with respiratory disorders.

Abstract

The prevalence of gout among the elderly in Indonesia continues to increase. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the prevalence of gout among the elderly based on a health professional’s diagnosis in Indonesia is 11.9%, and based on diagnosis or symptoms is 24.7%. When viewed based on age characteristics, the highest prevalence is found in individuals aged ≥ 75 years (54.8%). The purpose of this study is for the researcher to apply the therapy of consuming boiled cat’s whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus) herbal drink to reduce uric acid levels, implemented using Nola J. Pender’s Health Promotion Theory in the Working Area of Jembatan Kecil Public Health Center, Bengkulu City, in 2025.The research method used in this study is a case study approach by applying boiled cat’s whiskers water therapy to decrease uric acid levels through the application of Nola J. Pender’s theory. The number of participants in this study was two individuals with similar conditions, namely nursing problems of acute pain related to physiological injury agents and lack of knowledge related to inability to recognize the disease condition. The results showed that the application of the therapy was highly effective in reducing uric acid levels in patients with hypertension through the application of Nola J. Pender’s theory in the Working Area of Jembatan Kecil Public Health Center, Bengkulu City, in 2025.The researcher recommends that patients and families continue to maintain physical, psychological, and environmental health, and consistently follow the advice provided, apply, and implement all knowledge taught to help patients and families achieve an optimal level of health.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common non-communicable diseases in the elderly and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Non-pharmacological interventions such as watermelon juice therapy, which contains L-citrulline, potassium, and antioxidants, are believed to help naturally reduce blood pressure. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of watermelon juice administration in reducing blood pressure among elderly individuals with hypertension using the Virginia Henderson nursing theory approach. The method used in this study was a descriptive design with a case study approach involving two elderly patients at the UPTD Tresna Werdha Social Institution Bengkulu. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention. Nursing interventions were provided based on Virginia Henderson’s 14 fundamental needs.Watermelon juice therapy can be used as a complementary intervention in the management of hypertension in the elderly. The application of Virginia Henderson’s nursing theory supports successful adaptation and lifestyle modification in individuals with hypertension.

Abstract

Increased uric acid levels are a common health problem experienced by the community, particularly among older adults, and can lead to joint pain. One of the non-pharmacological therapies used to reduce uric acid levels is the administration of boiled bay leaf water. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of boiled bay leaf water in reducing uric acid levels and pain intensity in patients with gout arthritis by applying Betty Neuman’s nursing model. This research used a case study design involving two participants aged over 40 years who were diagnosed with gout arthritis. The intervention was carried out for three days with the administration of boiled bay leaf water twice daily. The instruments used included a pain scale observation sheet and recorded uric acid levels. The results showed that after the intervention, there was a decrease in pain scale in both participants from moderate to mild levels (from scale 5 → 1 and 6 → 2). The intervention also demonstrated an adaptive response in improving patient coping based on Betty Neuman’s theory. The conclusion of this study is that boiled bay leaf water is effective in reducing pain intensity among patients with gout arthritis and may serve as a complementary therapy. It is recommended that patients continue this therapy independently as a preventive measure against recurrent pain.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic condition in which blood glucose levels exceed the normal range. The increase in blood glucose levels is caused by impaired insulin secretion, insulin function, or both (Prihatin, 2019). Subcutaneous insulin therapy is a method of insulin administration in which insulin is injected into the subcutaneous fat tissue with the aim of controlling blood glucose levels in individuals with diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study is to understand and apply nursing care in the implementation of subcutaneous insulin therapy to manage hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus through the application of Orem’s Theory at Bhayangkara Hospital Bengkulu in 2025, by providing nursing care for three days. The results obtained after implementing subcutaneous insulin therapy in Mrs. A and Mrs. N showed a decrease in random blood glucose levels over the three-day intervention period. It can be concluded that the implementation of subcutaneous insulin therapy has a significant effect in reducing hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disorder of the blood vessels that results in impaired delivery of oxygen and nutrients carried by the blood to body tissues. As a consequence, the heart must work harder to meet these needs, causing an increase in blood pressure with systolic and diastolic levels ≥140/90 mmHg. Among several nursing conceptual models, one of them is Ida Jean Orlando’s theory. The objective of this study is for the researcher to understand and apply Chayote Juice Therapy (Sechium edule) in reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients through the application of Ida Jean Orlando’s Nursing Theory at the Simpang Nangka Public Health Center working area. The research method used in this study is a case study approach. The respondents consisted of two male patients at Simpang Nangka Public Health Center, Rejang Lebong District. The intervention given to the respondents was Chayote Juice Therapy (Sechium edule), which aimed to reduce blood pressure. The results showed that after the administration of Chayote Juice Therapy (Sechium edule), the respondents experienced a decrease in blood pressure from 178/96 mmHg and 160/100 mmHg to 142/82 mmHg and 130/76 mmHg, respectively. It is expected that the public health center may integrate Chayote Juice Therapy (Sechium edule) as an alternative non-pharmacological therapy for patients with hypertension.
