Abstract

Population growth in Indonesia that continues to increase every year has a direct consequence on the increasing need for space, both for housing, public facilities, and infrastructure. With a population projected to reach more than 300 million in the next few decades, the challenges faced are not only limited to providing housing, but also meeting the socio-economic needs of the community such as education, health, transportation, and green open spaces. The purpose of this study is to solve the problem of population density in the Tanjung Port settlement so that it can create a more decent, healthy, and orderly residential environment for the fishing community living in the area. This study uses a qualitative method. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and field studies, which were then analyzed using data display techniques, grouping, reduction, and data interpretation. The concept of behavioral architecture is applied as a responsive approach to understanding the interaction between humans and their environment. The results of the study indicate that the concept of behavioral architecture in overcoming the problem of population density can be done with several important findings. First, the rearrangement of residential space that is more efficient and flexible, allows for optimal land use without sacrificing the comfort of residents. Second, the integration of multifunctional public spaces, such as green areas and shared facilities, can increase social interaction and reduce pressure on private space. Third, the use of adaptive design that is responsive to the daily habits and behaviors of residents, helps create a more harmonious and productive environment. The findings also emphasize the importance of collaboration between architectural elements and human behavior to create holistic and sustainable solutions.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with very low reading interest. Technological developments can be utilized to change lazy reading habits into reading hobbies through interactive features such as highlighting, digital notes, and automatic recommendations to make the reading experience more interesting and personal. With advanced technology, someone can read anywhere and anytime, including while waiting, which is often an unproductive time. This study uses a qualitative method with an architectural approach to understand aspects of space, design approaches, and human interaction with the built environment. The research location is focused on the Dungingi Terminal, Gorontalo City, the data includes primary and secondary, data collection techniques using observation techniques, interviews, surveys, and documentation. Data analysis uses data display, data grouping, data reduction, and data interpretation. The results of the study indicate that re-growing people's interest in reading does not need to be in a library building, but it can also be done in public buildings, so that increasing lumeration and literacy in the community goes well. In the reading room with an architectural approach concept with "Smart Building", the selection of building elements in the form of energy-saving needs, the use of technology to support indoor needs in the form of electronic reading media procurement, and in the process of operating a smart building system. The world of architecture is challenged to be able to carry out or design public facilities that combine various functions, such as transportation and education, in one building. This can maximize the use of space and increase added value for the community, such as a terminal that functions as a reading room. The application of flexible design allows public spaces to be changed or used for various purposes, without sacrificing comfort or primary functionality.

Abstract

The importance of health access in the North Tolitoli area bordering Buol Regency, is quite far from the city center, making it difficult to refer patients to the main hospital. This condition underlies the design of the hospital, becoming an ideal solution to support health services and referrals from the Health Center. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach and analysis of space requirements based on class D hospital service standards. Data collection techniques involve field observations, interviews with related parties, and document reviews including hospital design guidelines and government regulations. Data analysis was carried out using a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. The architectural approach with a modern tropical design concept, which is adjusted to the local climate and site conditions in North Tolitoli. This approach aims to create environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and functional buildings, taking into account natural air circulation, lighting, and the use of local materials. The results of the study show that this Class D Pratama Hospital is able to meet the health needs of the community by providing main rooms such as the Emergency Room, polyclinic, inpatient room, laboratory, and pharmacy. Architecture is required to continue to innovate and develop architectural designs that are adaptive to climate, including tropical climates, as well as improving the quality of health facilities in remote areas as a contribution to architectural science in the field of health facility design.

Abstract

This study aims to design the Tolitoli Regency History and Culture Museum with a vernacular architectural approach, which integrates local cultural elements into the building design. Through qualitative methods, data were collected through interviews, field observations, and literature studies on Tolitoli traditional architecture. The results of the study indicate that the application of local materials such as ironwood and bamboo, as well as the design of a gable roof and natural ventilation, creates a building that is sustainable and adaptive to local climate conditions. In addition, the integration of traditional carving motifs into the interior of the museum strengthens cultural identity and increases the educational value of the building. The museum is designed as a multifunctional social space, acting as a center for cultural and community interaction. With a vernacular architectural approach, this museum not only functions as a place to preserve historical artifacts, but also as a symbol of dynamic and sustainable local identity. The results of this study are expected to be a model for the development of architecture that prioritizes sustainability and cultural preservation in other regions. Overall, this discussion underlines the importance of a vernacular architectural approach in the design of public buildings such as museums. In addition to producing aesthetic and functional designs, this approach is also able to create strong cultural ties, support environmental sustainability, and provide a positive impact on the tourism sector and the regional economy.

Abstract

In facing the increasing number of people with mental disorders in Indonesia, facilities are needed that support optimal services. Currently, Central Sulawesi Province is recorded as having 72,326 people with mental disorders in 2021 and the potential will continue to increase. The prevalence rate of more serious mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, is reported to be around 1.7 per 1000 population or around 400,000 people. This study aims to design a new mental hospital building by considering aspects of environmental psychology and human behavior. Mental hospitals have an important role in providing health and recovery services for individuals with mental disorders. Therefore, an architectural approach that pays attention to the relationship between space, humans, and the environment is essential in planning. The research method involves analyzing data from the Tolitoli Regency Health Office regarding the number of people with mental disorders from 2019 to 2021. The environmental and behavioral psychology architectural approach is used to design spaces that are in accordance with the characteristics of the patient's mental health. The use of the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) model in the architectural design of a mental hospital to systematically explore, analyze, and synthesize relevant literature as a reference in designing new buildings with the expected results in the form of a comprehensive picture of the best trends and approaches in architectural design. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of mental health facilities in Tolitoli Regency and be a consideration for the government and private sector in the construction of a Mental Hospital.

Abstract

Gaukan Muhammad Bantilan City Park is located in the city center and functions as a place for social activities such as sports, recreation, socialization, and street vendor activities (PKL), in addition to its ecological function. Gaukan Muhammad Bantilan City Park is adjusted to the community's needs, which can attract the interest of the people of Tolitoli Regency to reintroduce history without explaining the history and attracting local and foreign tourists to visit Tolitoli Regency. The purpose of the redesign is to meet the functional aspects of the needs of each user's space. The qualitative research method uses a descriptive approach, assisted by primary and secondary data. Data analysis includes data display, data grouping, and data reduction. The results of the study stated that the Gaukan Muhammad Bantilan City Park, through elements of public space design, supporting facilities in the park, successful public open spaces, comfort and impression (comfort and image), security, cleanliness, vegetation, seating, lighting, access in and out, function and activity (use and activity), activity, usefulness, social ability (sociability), can provide comfort to users of public open spaces. Architecture must consider how space can be a place for active social interaction, functioning as a comfortable recreational space. Considering social, cultural, and economic factors, the design of public open spaces can strengthen local identity and create an environment that supports the welfare of the community as a whole.
