Abstract

Humans, influenced by their environment and culture, form diverse characters. Tolerance and openness between cultures is the key to coexistence. Joining a group brings a solution in culture, even if it conflicts with individual personalities. Dynamics and interactions between groups are needed to find a new culture, despite the potential for clashes due to cultural defenses. This phenomenon often occurs in students who migrate, facing culture shock due to cultural differences. Adjustment to the new environment is needed to overcome culture shock. Skilled adaptation communication can minimize the impact of culture shock and prevent conflict. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with secondary data. Adaptation communication patterns of overseas students involve four stages: self-adjustment, frustration, readjustment, and development of meaningful communication. These four stages become the facility and heart of successful adaptation, improving students' communication and social relations with the campus environment.

Abstract

In our culture, the human growth cycle is a constant, from vulnerable infants to adults. Ruth Benedict underscores the physiological contrast between the two, as well as the roles that change over time. While these facts of nature underlie discussions of humans, the anthropologist's role is to analyze the interaction between "nature" and human behavior, and how culture influences it. In this context, Benedict highlights the concepts of continuity and discontinuity, describing variations in child training in different cultures and differences in roles between children and adults. She points out that although physiological differences exist, the process of transitioning from child to adult varies significantly between societies. In her paper, Benedict analyzes three contracts that are prominent in culture, namely non-responsive responsible status, compliance dominance, and limited sexual roles. This research helps to understand how culture plays an important role in the formation of the human life cycle, highlighting the continuities and discontinuities that exist across different cultures.

Abstract

Folklore has become an integral part of a society's cultural heritage. This study aims to explore the influence of folklore in the formation of local cultural values using a phenomenological approach. The research method used was interviews and data analysis. The data collected was analyzed using a phenomenological approach to understand the subjective experiences of individuals in understanding and responding to folklore. The results showed that folklore has a significant role in shaping local cultural values. Respondents revealed that folklore is not only a medium to convey these values, but also an integral part of cultural identity. The diversity of folklore reflects the diversity of cultural values in the community. In addition, this study highlights the role of the individual in interpreting folklore. Individual subjective experiences play an important role in how folktales are understood and internalized. Contextual factors such as oral traditions, cultural rituals and social structures also influence the way folktales are conveyed and received by the community. Implications of this research include the importance of understanding the role of folklore in the education of local cultural values and in cultural heritage preservation efforts. With a better understanding of the influence of folklore, more effective educational programs and more targeted cultural preservation efforts can be designed.
