Abstract

Aim: Based on Barr’s conceptual paradigm of the welfare state and social justice in the context of education, the study aims to critically examine and highlight the significance of state involvement in primary education sector in case of Lebanon primary education infrastructure. Methodology: This paper adopted methodology to conduct methodical literature review of academic li terature, policy papers, and official reports in the field to partly explore the Lebanese government’s funding program for private education on the principles of efficiency and fairness. Findings: It has been determined that the most effective way to address inefficiency and fairness is for the government to subsidize commercial primary education output. Although the Lebanese government created a system of financing allowances to lessen parents’ financial strain in providing for their children’s education, the subsidy program has not succeeded in ensuring equitable access for the lowest rungs of society because there are still large disparities. In order to ensure more equal access to the funding scheme, the government should substitute the existing subsidy program with an income and needs-based funding allocation program, an example of which can be a constrained voucher scheme. Implications/Novel Contribution: The article provides a critical analysis and economic assessment of the Lebanese government’s primary education financing allotment program’s effectiveness and fairness. For policymakers to genuinely comprehend the issues and make informed decisions, the document offers in-depth knowledge about the subject.

Abstract

Aim: Morocco has implemented several strategies and rules for saving biodiversity and safeguarding natural and territorial riches in protected regions since the release of the Vizier Decree on January 19, 1942. Within this context, the UNESCO MAB designation encourages creativity in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. However, its goal of reconciling protection and resource management in order to generate territorial and sustainable development possibilities has been criticised. This article aims to focus on the deficiencies of local population involvement in the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve in preserving the forest environment, as well as the role of innovations brought about by the UNESCO MAB label commitment in this reserve rich in remarkable biodiversity and threatened endemic resources. Methodology: The study used critical and territorial approaches, implementing a documentary analysis of MAB programs and strategies and selecting innovations from the latter. Then confronted these innovations with the reality observed in the ABR field through a qualitative human and social sciences analysis. This research was founded on the results of fieldwork conducted as part of the Erasmus + EduBioMed Project. This work was carried out through a documented study of MAB programs and strategies, as well as the clash of advances introduced by the latter with the actuality of the field of ABR. Findings: According to this study, the majority of social, economic, and territorial innovations coming from the use of the UNESCO MAB label have led to significant changes in local communities. However, the impacts are more concentrated in regions where the actors have a stronger presence. Implications/Novel Contribution: The qualitative results of the study are crucial for understanding the reality of RBA which is a specific territory concerning the various forms of innovation brought about by the UNESCO MAB label. The research brings several policy and implementation insights for future programs implemented by UNESCO in Morrocco and overall, across the globe. .

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to explore how design students can identify marine debris problems and generate insights through the computational thinking learning process to better develop design students’ ability to learn across domains. Methodology: Authors set up a transdisciplinary learning course of "Design Computational Thinking", trying to introduce the knowledge of marine debris in the humanities and environmental sustainability into the course, combining design thinking and computational thinking processes, and guiding students to think about and evaluate problems in stages and complete thematic design. Finally, through the achievement report, Expert assessment, and semi-structured interviews with students, content analyze and evaluate their learning effect. Findings: It was found that students were creative in the way to deal with marine debris problems. Computational thinking can have an impact on the design process. In the process of design decision-making, students can think and express hierarchically, and use core strategies to solve problems. Implications/Novel Contribution: This study attempted to bridge the research gap and provides a knowledge base for problem-solving through transdisciplinary and metacognitive learning. The combination of design thinking and computational thinking provides different levels of thinking models for problem-solving and generates insights.

Abstract

Aim: The research aims to increase interest and a greater awareness of STEM fields among female minority students by providing hands-on STEM-infused workshops incorporating the arts as a central theme. Methodology: The research methodology involved conducting workshops for thirty-seven female students, primarily from low socioeconomic backgrounds, who attended fifteen-hour-long STEM-infused hands-on workshops presented by university professors in the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. Using design computational thinking course intervention, problem based learning approach followed by expert assessment and brief interview survey was adopted. Findings: The study’s results revealed that the 15-week STEM workshops positively impacted the female students’ attitudes toward STEM. In addition, the post-survey results showed a significant increase in their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The data from the results is a promising finding, as it indicates that targeted interventions can effectively increase STEM interest among young female students from underrepresented backgrounds. Implications/Novel Contribution: The implications of this research are significant as it addresses the underrepresentation of female minority students in STEM. In addition, the project enabled students to participate in STEM education inclusively and innovatively. Our aspiration is that through this initiative, students will be able to contribute to promoting diversity and inclusivity within the STEM fields. In addition, the results of this research may provide insights into practical strategies for increasing diversity and inclusivity in STEM fields.

Abstract

Aim: Employee training sometimes falls to the bottom of the list of priorities while managing a busy health and social care service due to the abundance of issues to take into account. The greatest human resources may be developed and retained via training, which also offers new skills and information. The entire training practices in private hospitals in India were to be evaluated in this study. The research primarily examines how training affects worker performance, organizational commitment, and the standard of healthcare services. Methodology: A questionnaire was used to gather primary data, and one item was left open-ended to allow for further exploration of the subject. Findings: The study’s results revealed that although employees occasionally receive training, only a small percentage of them think it is of a high enough caliber to have an impact on both their personal life and the company’s. Additionally, they didn’t think that the training had increased their dedication to the organization or changed the way they thought or behaved. They contend that variables other than their connection with their employers have a bigger role in determining their retention rate at a company. Employees acknowledged that certain abilities had improved, which suggests that hospitals utilize a set of broad training techniques that are not altered to meet specific hospital demands. Not every employee said that assessments are conducted on a regular basis. Employees are not involved in the creation of training modules, and they do not believe that training and evaluations have made them stand out for both themselves and their employer. Given that the healthcare industry is always changing, having a professional, educated, and adaptive personnel should always be a top concern. For anybody working in the healthcare industry, training is a must, not just a nice-to-have. Implications/Novel Contribution: The hospitals may utilize these findings to enhance their training initiatives and get the most out of them.
